Hello and welcome to the Ancient wisdom modern mind podcast and in this podcast I want to share with you the four basic steps involved in Zen meditation. And how if you don’t like what path your life is taking, how meditation will give you the power to simply change your trajectory.
Through meditation we can become more self-aware of how our lives are unfolding, and this self-awareness gives us the choice to choose your own destiny, a destiny were no one needs to live a life that they don’t want to live, and you could even say that this is your human right, the right to choose.
Now I’ve been getting this question a lot. Like Jason how do I meditate? What’s the right way to do it? Am I doing it right? Should I do this? Should I do the guided meditation or should I just, you know, sit down and do it myself? What’s the right thing to do?
So in this podcast, I’m going to share with you why you should meditate, what’s the biggest mistake you can make, and the best way you can start meditating right now and actually the true purpose of meditation itself.

Hello, and welcome to the Ancient wisdom modern mind podcast and today we will try to understand the psychology of human behavior and the idea of a collective agreement and this agreement is what we call humanity and How to Become Enlightened!
When you are born you become a member of a collective agreement we call humanity, this is a collective agreement between billions of smaller individuals. Personal egos which come together to create a family, a community, a society, a nation, and finally an agreement called humanity.
The Human agreement is the foundation of self, and is in essence a psychological agreement for being human, an agreement where we agree to conform, and from the moment we are born our attention is introduced to this agreement by our parents, school teachers, social peers and religious leaders.
This agreement locks in our attention and forces us to discriminate and to focus only on that which is needed to maintain the agreement, and as we hold this personalized focus at the conscious level of the mind it also seeps into the subconscious and is then reflected back as random thoughts and emotions which we feel as real.
As this programming begins to become entrenched within our subconscious mind we begin to form habits and patterns that keep us focused only on that part of the agreement which is repeated the most. We recreate this agreement continuously with our thoughts, and these thoughts continually reinforce and also reprogram the subconscious mind which fixes the agreement as beliefs, options and finally actions.
This is what distinguishes humans from enlightened beings, enlightened being no longer accepts the human agreement. These enlightened beings learn how to stop thoughts completely and to focus the attention outside the human agreement, and also outside of human reality.

Hello and welcome to the Ancient wisdom modern mind podcast and today I would like to share the concept of “Dhyana or yogic Meditation”.
Dhyana is Sanskrit word meaning meditation, the term dhyana derives from the two Sanskrit root word ‘dhi’, which means "mind," and yana, which means "moving." Dhyana may also originate from the Sanskrit word dhyai, which means "to think of." It is the seventh limb of yoga in the Ashtanga yoga system, also known as the eight-limbed path. But there are many forms of meditation and to simply call dhyana meditation is an over simplification of dhyana’s true implication.
The ancient Hindu scripture Bhagavad Gita lists dhyana yoga as one of the four yoga disciplines along with bhakti yoga, jnana yoga, and karma yoga. In the Gita, the deity Krishna describes dhyana as the "yoga of meditation."
The Yoga sutras defines Dhyana as the "continuous flow of the same thought or image of the object of meditation, without being distracted by any other thought". Swami Vivekananda explains Dhyana in Patanjali's Yoga sutras as, "When the mind has been trained to remain fixed on a certain internal or external location, there comes to it the power of flowing in an unbroken current, as it were, towards that point.
▶️ Four types of Dhyana:
• Mantric dhyana/meditation on the Vedic mantras with concentration,
• Visual dhyana/meditation or on a particular deity with illumined thought
• Absorption in mind and heart
• Samadhi
▶️ How to Practice Dhyana:
• Begin your meditation practice with dharana.
• Eliminate your thoughts and feelings.
• Add a mudra
• Practice
After Dhyana you will experience the seven limbs of yoga by living by your core values, cultivating ease in your body, and anchoring your mind to your own presence. In time, the eight limbs of yoga will come full circle and “union” can occur.

Hello and welcome to the Ancient wisdom modern mind podcast and today I would like to ask you, would you would recognize an enlightened being if you interacted with one? Plus I will shed some light on the idea that if by mediation alone one can achieve enlightenment?
We sometimes say that some people are enlightened, but do we really know what that means? We might say that because they are kind, loving, and insightful. While these may indeed be qualities of an enlightened person, it's hard to be sure unless we ourselves are enlightened.
Enlightenment is about recreating yourself, about rising above what it means to be human. It is a process that first pulls down what was made by society and then rebuilds a new mind, new person. But enlightened being are created out of silence, which is why meditation is a critical part of their development. If you do not silence the mind/ego then you will be reprogrammed with the same errors that created the unenlightened humans.
Keep in mind that there are varying degrees of enlightenment. That is, everyone is at a different point in their spiritual development, and some may be more enlightened than others.
First it is very unlikely that the unenlightened would know if someone was truly Enlightenment. Someone is more knowledge about spiritual issues it is our natural assumption to place them on a higher level, you assume that person is enlightened because they have more knowledge than you. and remember what the Buddha was quoted as saying, “That all sentient beings, including those in the animal realm, possess Buddha nature and therefore can attain enlightenment".
So being more educated is not an indication of enlightenment. The truth is you will not find an enlightened being to follow, it is better that you make the effort to become enlightened yourself. Today I’m going to bust two myths about enlightenment. These myths are:
• Meditation in itself will lead to enlightenment & the modern fad where people are claiming instant enlightenment.
• Enlightenment is instantaneous and I also deal with some of the confusion that revolves around enlightenment terminology.

Hello and welcome to the Ancient wisdom modern mind podcast and today would like to share The Tale of the Samurai and the Tea Master. This tale is a guide to understanding Zen Buddhism and Zen Meditation, which expresses the essence of Zen in the act of perfection.
“Zen is the essence of all that is of value, all that is worthy of being worshiped and as such should be smashed if we get the slightest chance.” This statement is understood if we understand that Zen is purely subjective, and dangerous, and indeed variable, Zen instructs us to have courage, and say again and again, “All that can be shaken shall be shaken!” and if nothing remains, let it be so.
Zen means doing anything in perfect harmony, even making perfect mistakes, being defeated perfectly and succeeding perfectly. It means that one is mindful of their full action, you detach from the emotion of the moment and become aware or mindful of your actions. Zen is also about letting go, but letting go in perfection, if you know you are going to fail then fail perfectly.
For centuries tea has been a symbol of inner harmony, especially in the time-honored country of Japan. Indeed, the Ancient Japanese honed the craft and the art of the tea ceremony. The Orient's appreciation for tea is even viewed in its rich, ancient tea legends that were designed to instruct people as to the methods of unlocking their own inner peace, their Zen.
The Samurai and the Tea Master is just such a tale that capitalizes on the power of inner tranquility over outward strength. The story is set in Ancient Japan, and the hero is not a Samurai, but a tea master.
Zen's major emphasis is not on scriptural authority, but instead places more importance on the act of mind, body and the spoken word to convey religious truth.
▶️ Zen expresses its religious practice through the act of specific physical actions:
• Simplicity or elimination of clutter - Kanso (簡素),
• Asymmetry or Irregularity - Fukinsei (不均整),
• Naturalness - Shizen (自然), Subtlety - Yugen (幽玄),
• Break from routine - Datsuzoku (脱俗),
• Stillness, Tranquility - Seijaku (静寂),
• Austerity - Shibui/Shibumi (渋味).

Hello, Jason Cain here and welcome to the Ancient wisdom modern mind podcast and today I would like to share my view on spiritual enlightenment and the truth about enlightenment, gurus.
The world is brimful of different cultures, traditions, religions and languages. People living in one geographic location comprehend things in a different manner as compared to those living in another geographic location. However, one thing that is common in people all around the world is their constant search for spiritual enlightenment and the spiritual experience itself. Spirituality, unlike religion, is universal and gives you freedom to choose your path and experience.
The traditional concept of enlightenment comes from the spiritual traditions of India notably the various schools of Yoga, Vedanta and Buddhism and denotes the highest state of spiritual attainment. The End of the path.
Nowadays there are many people who judge themselves to be enlightened, and for 99% of those enlightened gurus are either confused about full enlightenment or they have no experience or they are fake gurus. The ego is a master of deceit, and it can hide itself in spirituality too.
▶️ Gradual or Sudden Enlightenment:
Many of the traditions mentioned above agree that enlightenment is already here and now, and that it is our true nature of reality. We often get carried away by an emotional explanation of enlightenment. But no enlightened being can tell you about when they became enlightened because it a gradual process that grows unnoticed.
One day you simply realize your ego is dead and you are no longer bound by your humanity. Since the human is dead, an enlightened being cannot tell you stories. They can remember the bliss of transition, slowly after decades of effort
▶️ Enlightenment is a Direction, Not a Goal:
Full enlightenment is possible, and is not only for monks. However, it is extremely rare. I believe that at any time in the world there are probably few people in that peak of achievement. Many people feel discouraged, frustrated, or less motivated. All of these issues come up when we think of enlightenment as an inflexible goal, but these problems can also disappear the moment we make a small adjustment in our mindset.
▶️ Putting Things in Perspective:
In many traditions, the teachings are quite binary either ignorant, or enlightened. As enlightenment is so rare Many of us are encumbered by our own ideals and beliefs, we are serious amateurs, but very few of us are willing to practice like those masters. But few people are ready to put in the effort and sacrifice to become enlightened.

Hello, and welcome to the Ancient wisdom modern mind podcast and today I would like to share my view on top 7 types of meditation you may try while meditating. Let’s start the video.
Meditation isn’t about becoming a different person, a new person, or even a better person. It’s about training in awareness and getting a healthy sense of perspective. You’re not trying to turn off your thoughts or feelings. You’re learning to observe them without judgment.
Meditation may be an ancient tradition, but it’s still practiced in cultures all over the world to create a sense of calm and inner harmony. Although the practice has ties to many different religious teachings, meditation is less about faith and more about altering consciousness, finding awareness, and achieving peace.
These days, with the greater need to reduce stress in the midst of our busy schedules and demanding lives, meditation is increasing in popularity. Although there isn’t a right or wrong way to meditate, it’s important to find a practice that meets your needs and complements your personality.
Meditation is like food for the spirit, any kind of food is better than nothing and though everyone must to some extent find out what is right for their own life style, there are some constant features of meditation that will have much the same effect on everyone.

Hello and welcome to the Ancient wisdom modern mind podcast and today I would like to share with you a Guided Meditation To Release Negative Energy.
Meditation is about letting go and not resisting, it allows emotions to naturally diminish. The idea is to observe the mind in action and ease it into the present moment without employing force. If you resist, you will fall into the trap of thinking even more. You'll find yourself thinking about not thinking, or why you can't stop thinking, or if anybody else has trouble stopping thinking, and so on.
▶ Day 0: Introduction to Releasing Negative Thoughts and in this series you're going to discover how to release negative thoughts, and fill your mind with a few positive thoughts as we move through a different mediation each day.
▶ Day 1: Releasing Negative Thoughts Guided Meditation
In Day One I'll be guiding you through a meditation to release negative thoughts and replace them with some positive thoughts that empower who you are, and if you’re following this series in order, the release negative thoughts theme will be the first day in the series.
▶ Day 2: Affirmations to Release Negative Thoughts through Meditation.
On Day Two we will explore the power of affirmations as you meditate.
▶ Day 3: Breath Technique to Release Negative Thoughts through Meditation.
Then in Day Three we discover a new breath technique that you can use in your meditation and throughout your today
▶ Day 4: Mudra to Release Negative Thoughts through Meditation.
And Day Four is about tapping into the power of the Mudra, and if you're not familiar with Mudras. A mudra is a symbolic or ritual gesture in Hinduism, Buddhism and it may surprise you that Mudras can even be found in Judaism and while some mudras involve the entire body, the mudra we will be focused on is performed with the hands and fingers. This mudra works much like acupuncture or acupressure to balance your energies in such a way as to help and support your sense of calm throughout the day.
▶ Day 5: Gratitude Meditation to Release Negative Emotions
In Day Five we will do a chakra meditation and in this we will be exploring the transfer of energy from the emotional center which is the solar plexus chakra into the fourth chakra which is your powerful heart chakra.
▶ Day 6: Meditation for Releasing Toxic People
Day Six is a special day, where we meditate for releasing toxic people and staying authentic and this is important because removing yourself from toxic situations and toxic people is a fundamental process in creating change in your life.
▶ Day 7: Guided Walking Meditation and Becoming a Better Person type of meditate each day in this series. And Day Seven you'll begin with a walking meditation to get yourself out into nature.

About the Author

A Japanese priest of the Soto lineage, he taught in the United States from 1959 until his death. He was the founder of the San Francisco Zen Center and the Tassajara Zen Mountain Center. He is the author of Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind and Branching Streams Flow in the Darkness- Zen Talks on the Sandokai, and he is the subject of the biography Crooked Cucumber by David Chadwick.

Hello and welcome to the Ancient wisdom modern mind podcast and today would like to share with you about my understanding of the mind from the prospective of rational awareness.
Rationality is the quality or state of being rational, a state based on our agreeability to reason. Rationality implies the conformity of one's beliefs with one's reasons to believe, but really what we called rationality is our ability to recognition patterns, an unconscious state where the brain identifies patterns that it can use to predict and expect what is coming.
▶️ The rational side of humanity can be divided into two categories of perception.
• Preference awareness
• Concept construction
Preference awareness is humanities ordinary awareness. Preference awareness also imprisons the mind by consuming its attention and compelling the mind to become absorbed by its preferences and this process occurs because of the minds innate ability to recognize patterns. Since Pattern recognition is unavoidable and is the main or majority state of consciousness that most humans exist within, you could say that it is man’s natural state or that it is the comfort zone for the mind.
Pattern recognition is an unconscious state where the brain identifies patterns that it can use to predict and expect what is coming, the brain by making the connection between memories and information perceived, identifies familiar patterns and from this the individual is able to construct a mental representations of their situation.
It is not possible to ignore preference awareness, as these patterns give order to our lives, they give us meaning and purpose, but they also consume us, compel us and drive us to obsession. But the fact that there are a multitude of preferences also shows that we can choose whether to accept our preferences or to discard them.
Concept construction is the highest state that the rational side of the mind can achieve. It has its roots in a Monotheistic idea of reality. This Monotheistic view focuses on the philosophical idea that there is one God or one interconnected multi dimensional reality, a singular Divine, which manifests it in many ways, including as the Christian Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, but equally so are concepts such as Mindfulness.
The act of Mindfulness is a final development of the monotheistic view and concept construction, since mindfulness is the psychological process of bringing one's attention to experiences occurring in the present moment. And this has the effect of stepping the mind outside of its natural preferences and into a moment by moment awareness of the subjective nature of reality.

Meister Eckhart is an influential, and often surprising, Christian theologian/philosopher/mystics whose writings & sermons have both inspired future thinkers in the catholic church, but also been condemned by the pope as heretical.
This is a little book about soul freedom. It is a book about discovering the secret to all the things we most desire: contentment, meaning, peace of mind, and true freedom. This skillfully edited translation of selections from the writings of Meister Eckhart (c. 1260-1328) provides a road map to the spiritual life for contemporary seekers. Eckhart takes us on a journey of discovery, a journey in which we learn to let go, relinquish our need to know everything, and lose those things that we think are important for a life of worth. And in the end he shows us that the true secret is this: to find yourself, you must lose yourself.
Here is timeless wisdom from a medieval mystic who has influenced a wide range of spiritual teachers and mystics both inside and outside the Christian tradition. Erich Fromm, Arthur Schopenhauer, Dag Hammarskjold, Eckhart Tolle, Richard Rohr, D. T. Suzuki, Rudolf Steiner, and Matthew Fox have all credited Eckhart as being an important influence on their thought. In addition, his work has influenced the development of 20th-century American Buddhism and the Theosophical tradition.

Gratitude meditation is a type of meditation which, as the name suggests, focuses on gratitude. While some people might think of meditation along the lines of sitting in a dark room and clearing your mind, gratitude meditation can be practiced in many different settings. One might practice gratitude meditation while they are wait for their morning coffee to brew.
Finding a quiet space to sit in peace, stillness while you meditate, this meditation can easily be one of the most beneficial gifts we can give to ourselves. A regular practice can shift the way you feel, boost the energy in your body, and your entire day to day experience.
It is said that a Gratitude meditation is how some Buddhist monks and Native American elders begin their days. You might be interested in starting your day in a similar manner. So what are the benefits of gratitude meditation? Well, there is a lot of overlap between the benefits of a gratitude meditation.
• Increased sleep quality
• Higher levels of well-being
• increased levels of happiness
• Decreased levels of depression
• And a growing appreciation and recognition of kindness
This morning meditation practice for gratitude will set the foundation for a productive and positive day. We’ll start with a simple breathing practice that will help evoke feelings of gratitude. Finally, the practice will end with some mindfulness before you transition to your day.

This is an audio recording of the classic book, which tells the story of Jonathan Livingston Seagull, a seagull who is bored with the daily squabbles over food. Seized by a passion for flight, he pushes himself, learning everything he can about flying, until finally his unwillingness to conform results in his expulsion from his flock. An outcast, he continues to learn, becoming increasingly pleased with his abilities as he leads a peaceful and happy life.
"Most gulls don't bother to learn more than the simplest facts of flight--how to get from shore to food and back again," writes author Richard Bach in this allegory about a unique bird named Jonathan Livingston Seagull. "For most gulls it is not flying that matters, but eating. For this gull, though, it was not eating that mattered, but flight."
Flight is indeed the metaphor that makes the story soar. Ultimately this is a fable about the importance of seeking a higher purpose in life, even if your flock, tribe, or neighborhood finds your ambition threatening. (At one point our beloved gull is even banished from his flock.) By not compromising his higher vision, Jonathan gets the ultimate payoff: transcendence.
Ultimately, he learns the meaning of love and kindness. The dreamy seagull photographs by Russell Munson provide just the right illustrations--although the overall packaging does seem a bit dated (keep in mind that it was first published in 1970). Nonetheless, this is a spirituality classic, and an especially engaging parable for adolescents.

Hello and welcome to the Ancient wisdom modern mind podcast and today I would like to deal with Negative People. Have you said to yourself, “I am no longer willing to be a trash can for another’s negativity?”
“Most of us have one, so called friend or family member. Who is negative and self-absorbed, a so called friend who comes around and literally throws their trash all over you. And we learn early in the relationship that the only way to be safe from their anger is by listening to their complaints.
And while we quietly tolerate their negative whining slowly they begin to strip away our joy, bring us down to their level. And instead of focusing our energy towards being the best versions of ourselves we instead begin to absorb their negative energy while they feed off out positivity.
Negative people affect every part of our lives and even seem to suck our intelligence and ability to think, and it has even been shown that negativity can compromises the effectiveness of the neurons in the hippocampus, an important area of the brain responsible for reasoning and memory.
And that is why it’s so important to avoid the negative narcissistic personality, and surround ourselves with people who will uplift our spirits. The negativity person is like a vampire that feeds off your energy, and they come back every time they need a boost.
It takes courage to speak up for yourself. It takes courage to say to this so called friend who is dumping their negativity onto you. It’s time to take charge, to speak up for yourself, free yourself.
For you own future, don’t allow this predator to feed off your kindness and drain your very precious energy and happiness.
