Hello and welcome to the Ancient wisdom modern mind podcast and today I would like to share about the Hara and aims to clear up a few misconceptions surrounding what the Hara is and now it connects to other spiritual concepts.
Hara character is common to Chinese and Japanese. Abdomen should not be translated as "stomach" to avoid confusing it with the organ. In the Japanese medical tradition and in Japanese martial arts traditions, the word Hara is used as a technical term for a specific area or energy field of the body. An alternative Japanese reading of the character is Hufu, the Chinese reading is Fu.
The word TanDen comes from Japanese, meaning “center of the body”. In the Eastern traditions, this means the physical center of gravity for the human body and by extension the seat of one’s internal energy. In the Japanese martial arts, it is believed that when the “inner center” moves in a certain direction, all parts of the body will follow. For example, if only one’s foot moves, the rest of the body will not necessarily cooperate and participate in the action. However, if your inner center moves, all the organs in the body will function in sync with one another.
The physical space where the Hara or Tanden is located is directly behind the navel, inside the body, closer to the spine than the navel. This is where we experience the paradox of the Hara, “It can be felt, but cannot be touched. It can be realized but cannot be known”. Yet through the practice of no mind, the practitioner can become a living breathe in the deepest sense of the word the whole being is harmonized, uplifted, integrated, made One-all-consuming living movement.
There is a little confusion, about the precise location and this is again probably related to some people mistakenly connecting the Hara and the Sacral Chakra. When you’re trying to feel or sense the Hara, the precise details of the Hara’s location is not so important, since your only focusing on trying to feel your center and settling into this center, think in terms of the Hara as a three dimensional area of varying size inside the abdomen, and not as a point on the abdomen.
In practical terms you should think of settling your energy down into the Tanden or finding your center and focusing your breathing into this center. For this reason at a beginner’s level ones Zazen meditation practice guides the mind to focus on the Tanden. It can take many years of practice for some, but this is depending on the level of effort you give to your meditation practice.

The work reflects the aesthetics and poesis of the psychedelic state without collapsing into the tie-dye cliches that have trivialized the '60's era. Doctor Jean Houston, a senior advisor to the United Nations on matters of Human Development, eloquently speaks on the immense contribution Huxley has made concerning the possible human. Special thanks to Laura Huxley and Jean Houston.

Hello and welcome to the Ancient wisdom modern mind podcast and today I would like to share with you about stages of Samadhi and how to achieve it.
Samadhi is a Sanskrit term that refers to the greatest level of consciousness that may be attained via meditation. The eighth and final limb of the ashtanga yoga system detailed in Patanjali's ancient Yoga Sutra books is samadhi in Hinduism. Samadhi is the eighth practice on the Noble Eightfold Path to enlightenment and reincarnation in Buddhism. The Noble Eightfold Path is comparable to the eight limbs of yoga and has the same ultimate goal, but it focuses on living in the exterior world on a daily basis rather than the more inward-focused ashtanga yoga approach.
There are several ideas as to how the word samadhi came to be. The phrase might be derived from the Sanskrit root syllables sam-a-dha, which imply "to collect or bring together." This might be read as "mind unity."
▶️ 3 STEPS FOR ACHIEVING SAMADHI
These 3 steps will lead you towards the state of Samadhi, and Samadhi really depends on how often you apply yourself to the process. In the beginning Samadhi will come in flashes of realization, which will begin to become long states of heightened perception. Until finally you will simply realize yourself. This is self-realization and is a gate way state that steps into Samadhi.
► Step 1: Breathing
Conscious breathing or pranayama is known in Sanskrit as one of the most “mindful” things we can do. There is simply nothing more present in the moment than our breath.
Prana means life force or breath sustaining the body; Ayama translates as "to extend or draw out." Together the two mean breath extension or control.
► Step 2: Self-realization
Samadhi is sometimes confused with self-improvement through personal success, but this is an external identification. Whereas Self-improvement through self-truth is an internal process, where you learn to see self in all its glory and all its faults. Self-truth is about accepting where you are now at this very moment. Tolerance, patience and self-respect start at home in our own minds, because it’s all about you, no matter what you may tell yourself about your beliefs and the world, if you don’t respect who you are from deep within then you will never find balance.
► Step 3: Meditation Practice
It only makes sense that we should meditate as an important process in achieving Samadhi, and mediation is more than just laying down with your eyes closed and contemplating relaxation. Which is why meditation has ritualized seating postures such as Lotus Pose or Easy Pose, or the Zen walking meditations. The mind needs structure to overcome its chaotic nature.

Hello and welcome to the Ancient wisdom modern mind podcast and today I would like to share with you Plato’s Theaetetus from possibly one of the world's earliest and possibly greatest philosophers.
The Theaetetus is one of Plato's dialogues concerning the nature of knowledge, written circa 369 BCE.
In this dialogue set in a wrestling school, Socrates and Theaetetus discuss three definitions of knowledge: knowledge as nothing but perception, knowledge as true judgment, and, finally, knowledge as a true judgment with an account. Each of these definitions is shown to be unsatisfactory.
Socrates declares Theaetetus will have benefited from discovering what he does not know, and that he may be better able to approach the topic in the future. The conversation ends with Socrates' announcement that he has to go to court to face a criminal indictment.

Hello, I am Jason Cain and welcome to the Ancient wisdom modern mind podcast and today I will share with you a Guided Breathing Meditation.
Have you ever taken the time to notice your breath? I mean, really notice it. Noticing how the body expands when you inhale, and contracts when you exhale.
When you think about it breathing is really an extraordinary phenomenon, but it’s so subtle that we barely notice it most of the time.
Many meditations involve focusing on the breath and this is perhaps the easiest way to begin meditating and you may never need to look further. Begin with a Breath Awareness Meditation and when you find that you are able to follow the breath for a period of time, you can focusing on the Stillness in the Breath.
The idea is simply to focus your attention on your breathing—to its natural rhythm and flow and the way it feels on each inhale and exhale. One of the easiest ways to reduce stress is to simply focus your attention on your breath. It's a form of "entry level" meditation that anyone can do. You'll notice an immediate sense of relaxation that could help improve your health over time.
The most basic way to do mindful breathing is simply to focus your attention on your breath, the inhale and exhale. You can do this while standing, but ideally you’ll be sitting or even lying in a comfortable position. Your eyes may be open or closed, but you may find it easier to maintain your focus if you close your eyes.
Noticing the breath is a great and easy way to anchor your attention in the present moment. The breath is always with us and always changing– we just need to take the time to observe.
The Physical and Emotional side of Mindful Breathing Meditation are:
• Reduce stress levels in your body.
• Lower your heart rate.
• Lower your blood pressure.
• Improve diabetic symptoms.
• Reduce depression.
• Better manage chronic pain.
• Better regulate your body's reaction to stress and fatigue.
• Reduce the possibility of burnout for caregivers.
The simple discipline of concentration brings us back to the present moment and all the richness of experience that it contains. It is a way to develop mindfulness, the faculty of alert and sensitive awareness. And it is an excellent method for cultivating the states of intense meditative absorption known as dhyana. As well as this, the mindfulness of breathing is a good antidote to restlessness and anxiety, and a good way to relax: concentration on the breath has a positive effect on your entire physical and mental state.

Hello, Jason Cain here and welcome to the Ancient wisdom modern mind podcast and today I would like to share my thoughts about meditation everyday benefits and can anyone meditating twice a day.
Meditation enhances your physical health, alleviate stress-related medical issues, elevates your emotions, and provides you with a sense of well-being, and when you include meditation into one of your daily healthy routines, you will be amazed at how it may make you feel more content and satisfied with your life in general.
But can you meditate to much?
Meditation twice a day reduces heart rate, oxygen consumption, breathing frequency, stress hormones, lactate levels, and sympathetic nervous system activity, as well as lowering blood pressure somewhat. Those who had meditated for two or three years, on the other hand, were found to already have low blood pressure.
During meditation twice a day, oxygen consumption drops by 10 to 20% in the first three minutes. During sleep, for example, oxygen consumption falls by around 8% during four or five hours. For long-term mediators, respiration rate can decrease to three or four breaths per minute, and brain waves slow from the alpha waves observed during normal relaxation to the considerably slower delta and theta waves.
Thorough meditation twice a day aids in the elimination of limiting ideas and self-beliefs, as well as giving a steady source of motivation to the brain and body to keep continuing. According to studies on the influence of meditation on cancer risk reduction, mindful relaxation and meditation techniques increase the body's lymphocyte count and aid in the development of a natural shield for combating harmful cells that cause the deadly disease.

The Autobiography of a Yogi, Paramahansa Yogananda, takes the reader on a journey into the spiritual adventures of Paramahansa Yogananda. The book begins by describing Yogananda's childhood family life to his search for his guru, Yukteswar Giri, to the establishment of his first school, Yogoda Satsanga Brahmacharya Vidyalaya to his journey to America where he lectured to thousands, established Self-Realization Fellowship and visited with Luther Burbank, a renowned botanist to whom this book is dedicated.
The book then takes you on Yogananda's return visit to India in 1935 where he encountered leading spiritual figures such as Therese Neumann in Bavaria, the Hindu saint Ananda Moyi Ma, Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Sir C. V. Raman, and Giri Bala, "the woman yogi who never eats." The reader then returns to the West with Yogananda where he continues to establish his teachings in America including writing this book Paramahansa Yogananda
The preface was written by Walter Evans-Wentz, an Oxford scholar of anthropology, a writer who was a pioneer in the study of Tibetan Buddhism and an author of The Tibetan Book of the Dead and Tibet's Great Yogi Milarepa. In the preface he wrote, "His unusual life-document is certainly one of the most revealing of the depths of the Hindu mind and heart, and of the spiritual wealth of India, ever to be published in the West."
Yukteswar Giri, Yogananda's guru, told him about a significant prediction made by Lahiri Mahasaya, Yukteswar's guru.[16] Yukteswar heard him say, "About fifty years after my passing," he said, "my life will be written because of a deep interest in yoga which the West will manifest. The yogic message will encircle the globe, and aid in establishing that brotherhood of man which results from direct perception of the One Father." In 1945 fifty years after Lahiri Mahasaya's passing in 1895, the Autobiography was complete and ready for publication.
In 1999, Autobiography of a Yogi was designated as one of the "100 Most Important Spiritual Books of the 20th Century" by a panel of theologians and luminaries convened by HarperCollins publishers. According to Philip Goldberg, who wrote American Veda, "... the Self-Realization Fellowship which represents Yogananda's Legacy, is justified in using the slogan, "The Book that Changed the Lives of Millions."

The Autobiography of a Yogi, Paramahansa Yogananda, takes the reader on a journey into the spiritual adventures of Paramahansa Yogananda. The book begins by describing Yogananda's childhood family life to his search for his guru, Yukteswar Giri, to the establishment of his first school, Yogoda Satsanga Brahmacharya Vidyalaya to his journey to America where he lectured to thousands, established Self-Realization Fellowship and visited with Luther Burbank, a renowned botanist to whom this book is dedicated.
The book then takes you on Yogananda's return visit to India in 1935 where he encountered leading spiritual figures such as Therese Neumann in Bavaria, the Hindu saint Ananda Moyi Ma, Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Sir C. V. Raman, and Giri Bala, "the woman yogi who never eats." The reader then returns to the West with Yogananda where he continues to establish his teachings in America including writing this book Paramahansa Yogananda
The preface was written by Walter Evans-Wentz, an Oxford scholar of anthropology, a writer who was a pioneer in the study of Tibetan Buddhism and an author of The Tibetan Book of the Dead and Tibet's Great Yogi Milarepa. In the preface he wrote, "His unusual life-document is certainly one of the most revealing of the depths of the Hindu mind and heart, and of the spiritual wealth of India, ever to be published in the West."
Yukteswar Giri, Yogananda's guru, told him about a significant prediction made by Lahiri Mahasaya, Yukteswar's guru.[16] Yukteswar heard him say, "About fifty years after my passing," he said, "my life will be written because of a deep interest in yoga which the West will manifest. The yogic message will encircle the globe, and aid in establishing that brotherhood of man which results from direct perception of the One Father." In 1945 fifty years after Lahiri Mahasaya's passing in 1895, the Autobiography was complete and ready for publication.

Hello, Jason Cain here and welcome to the Ancient wisdom modern mind podcast and today I'm going to give a short talk about what should you do when you are feeling low in spirit.
Being low in spirit is a sign you are ready to grow beyond your current self and the low feeling is generated by the ego, which feels threatened by this change.
If you choose to distract yourself and tell yourself it's only temporary and go hang out with friends, buy a treat or any of the million ways you can distract yourself from your feelings until the low point passes.
Then it will simply manifest again at some point in the future. But if you choose instead to grow and in a way become reborn within yourself, then you will see this low for the message it really is.
Low points are messages of change and growth and our sadness or depression is only resistance to this change.
So, first accept your feelings as an opportunity then try to become an observant witness within yourself. Watch your feelings let them flow through you and discard any ideas of censure or approval.
Only you can truly know the form this change will take but whether it's a mental change or physical change that is happening. By observing your feelings and accepting them you will also see more clearly the path of change that is calling to you.
If you know how to meditate then this will help you transition through this growth. As meditation quietens the ego, getting outside and long walks will also help you to contemplate your feelings away from distractions.
It’s hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel when you are going through the journey of life. You wish life were always good. But tough times are inevitable. They will happen every so often, even if you put your best foot forward to try to avoid them. So, sooner or later, you’ll need to learn to look for the lesson in the middle of a storm.

Alan Wilson Watts (6 January 1915 – 16 November 1973) was a British philosopher, writer, and speaker
He was a British philosopher, writer and speaker, who held both a Master's in Theology and a Doctorate of Divinity. He was well known for his research on comparative religion, and was best known as an interpreter and popularizer of Asian philosophies for a Western audience.
He wrote over 25 books and numerous articles on subjects such as personal identity, the true nature of reality, higher consciousness, the meaning of life, concepts and images of God and the non-material pursuit of happiness. In his books he relates his experience to scientific knowledge and to the teachings of Eastern and Western religion and philosophy.
In his lectures he talks about Zen, Meditation, Buddhism, Hinduism, Pantheism, Christianity, Religious naturalism, Taoism, and Theology, Personal identity, Higher Consciousness, Aesthetics, Cultural criticism, and Public ethics.
Overall Alan Watts developed an extensive audio library of nearly 400 talks and wrote more than 25 books during his lifetime, including his final volume, Tao; the Watercourse Way. Alan died in his sleep in November of 1973 after returning from an intensive international lecture tour.

Hello and welcome to the Ancient wisdom modern mind podcast and today I would like to ask you, would you would recognize an enlightened being if you interacted with one? Plus I will shed some light on the idea that if by mediation alone one can achieve enlightenment?
We sometimes say that some people are enlightened, but do we really know what that means? We might say that because they are kind, loving, and insightful. While these may indeed be qualities of an enlightened person, it's hard to be sure unless we ourselves are enlightened.
Enlightenment is about recreating yourself, about rising above what it means to be human. It is a process that first pulls down what was made by society and then rebuilds a new mind, new person. But enlightened being are created out of silence, which is why meditation is a critical part of their development. If you do not silence the mind/ego then you will be reprogrammed with the same errors that created the unenlightened humans.
Keep in mind that there are varying degrees of enlightenment. That is, everyone is at a different point in their spiritual development, and some may be more enlightened than others.
First it is very unlikely that the unenlightened would know if someone was truly Enlightenment. Someone is more knowledge about spiritual issues it is our natural assumption to place them on a higher level, you assume that person is enlightened because they have more knowledge than you. and remember what the Buddha was quoted as saying, “That all sentient beings, including those in the animal realm, possess Buddha nature and therefore can attain enlightenment".
So being more educated is not an indication of enlightenment. The truth is you will not find an enlightened being to follow, it is better that you make the effort to become enlightened yourself. Today I’m going to bust two myths about enlightenment. These myths are:
• Meditation in itself will lead to enlightenment & the modern fad where people are claiming instant enlightenment.
• Enlightenment is instantaneous and I also deal with some of the confusion that revolves around enlightenment terminology.

The disciple through devotion and discipline strives to become a Witness of their humanity and its self awareness. Seeking the state of unified awareness, the 8th state of beingness, often simply called Enlightenment.
The traditional concept of enlightenment comes from the spiritual traditions of India notably the various schools of Yoga, Vedanta and Buddhism and denotes the highest state of spiritual attainment. Spiritual enlightenment is a sudden experience which makes it hard to define as the experiences vary from person to person.
Ego or Self explores itself through 7 states of Self-awareness “this is called Humanness” and from the moment we are born we indulge this game playing state. Seeking the state of unified awareness, the 8th state of beingness, often simply called Enlightenment, We strive to become a Witness of our humanity.
This 8th state of awareness is beyond human comprehension, for how can man comprehend the nature of enlightenment and simultaneously be fully permissive. Through devotion we transform the self and become a Witness, a gate keeper to the Absolute.
The enlightened Witness is now trapped in the 8th state of oneness, trapped within the Non Self, condemned to observe. But in this perceiving of the absolute, the Witness is blind to the 9th state of non being. The enlightened Witness is now trapped in the 8th state of oneness, trapped within the Non-Self, condemned to observe, an eternal Witness of their God.

Hello and welcome to the Ancient wisdom modern mind podcast and today I would like to offer slightly different perspective on our understanding of time and consciousness.
Syntax is thought of as the arrangement of words and phrases to create well-formed sentences in a language, but our concept of time is also an arrangement of cycles and phrases, and time and consciousness also has its own Syntax.
We measure time in cycles of the suns movements, hours, minutes, seconds and so on. Also time is distance and light speed. All the while assuming that it’s a fundamental construct of reality, a mathematical immutable law.
The experience of time is an essential component of human consciousness and can be understood as consciousness of temporal objects, an assumption of the temporal as being enduring.
Time and consciousness are interwoven on several levels. From the vantage point of ordinary life and common sense, consciousness plainly seems to exist in time. Our consciousness may be located within time, but there are also ways in which time might be regarded as manifesting temporality within consciousness.
Memories can be recreated and drawing into our present consciousness. And of course there are past- emotions, such as remorse or regret or shame and these the past memories can influence our present feelings, often in powerful ways.
While there is no future-directed counterpart of memory, we can anticipate future happenings and experience future directed emotions: fear, dread, hope and these too can exert a powerful influence on our present states of consciousness.
Think in terms of the rearview mirror of a car, the mirror seems to give the impression that you can see into the future because you assumed you were looking at another car gaining on you. It seems to gives us the impression that we are seeing into a future event, “The event being the car pasting you”.
Buy the reality is we are only ever aware of the past, never the present moment. Now imagine if we could become aware of the present and even what would happen if we became aware of the light particles ahead of us? Even only a micro second into the future?

Hello and welcome to the Ancient wisdom modern mind podcast and today I would like to discuss about what is atman and true self spirituality.
Atman, one of the most basic concepts in Hinduism, the universal self, identical with the eternal core or soul which if one attains gives release from the bonds of human existence. While in the early Vedas it occurred mostly as a reflexive pronoun meaning “oneself,” in the later Upanishads it comes more and more to the fore as a philosophical topic.
The Vedas define the Atman as the eternal core of our being, the Soul, or Primordial Self. This is One, Infinite and Eternal Breathe that transcends the lower self or ego and is the True-self awakened being.
The soul or Atman is a constant nagging voice, a connecting link between the world of self and the divine.
In the yogic tradition awakening Atman is a precondition to attaining Moksha, and so in certain schools of thought Atman has been incorrectly identified with Brahman, this confusion with Brahman relates to the similarity between Atman and Paramatman which is a part of Brahman, and with which the Atman can commune.

Hello and welcome to the Ancient wisdom modern mind podcast and today I would like to share about a slightly different perspective on time perception and try to explained now time is actually a 9th Dimension.
Humans have a love/hate relationship with the clock, if modern idioms are any indication. Time flies when we’re having fun. It drags when we’re bored. Sometimes it’s on our side; other times it’s racing against us. The perception of time is fundamental to our experience and central to virtually all of our activities. Correspondingly, time perception was one of the earliest topics of experimental psychology and has been extensively studied for well over a century.
To understand the time perception, I combine Three Geometric Dimensions, Three Relative Dimensions, Two Temporal Dimensions and time as the Ninth Dimensional force.
Our perception of the sequence or order of time is because Temporal Dimensions are linear perceptual dimensions, which means we perceived in a one directional movement.
▶️ Breakdown of the Nine Dimensions:
✔Geometric dimensions: are spatial dimensions having physical quantities such as length, width, and depth. Until the 20th century, it was assumed that there was a three-dimensional geometry to the universe (its spatial expression in terms of coordinates, distances, and directions) and was independent of the one-dimensional time.
• 1st Dimension is length
• 2nd Dimension is width
• 3rd Dimension is Light
✔ Relative dimensions: can be seen as the fabric of the Geometric dimensions and are what gives curvature to geometry.
• 4th Dimension is Electromagnetism
• 5th Dimension is a Gravity Field
• 6th Dimension is Nuclear Force
✔Temporal dimensions: A temporal dimension is one way to measure physical change. It is perceived differently from the three spatial dimensions in that we can only experience it in a single direction, meaning that we cannot move freely in time but subjectively move in one direction.
• 7th Dimension is Preference Awareness
• 8th Dimension is Concept Construction
• 9th Dimension is time (Quark Particle)
So what is the time dimension, since time is one of the temporal dimensions we can actually give it a name, and to expand this I would like to take a particle known in quantum theory as the quark and postulate that quarks are actually time particles.
My intention is to look at time from its subjective experience in higher states of consciousness such as meditative states that create the sense of timelessness or more popularly called the NOW or present moment, a state where the mind transcends self/ego and forms a transcended consciousness.
From this perspective we could say that the meditator is able to effect the one directional movement of time, by entering into the 9th Temporal Dimension of time. The meditator is able to slow and even stop the subjective experience of time by brings an end to their Concept Construction perception.
