Shop Select Styles: https://www.carolinashoe.com/diytyler I have been wanting to try a few new finishing techniques on an open grain wood project to narrow down a time efficient and durable finish for table builds. I thought I grabbed a slab of hickory off my wood rack and got started to make a floating shelf. After I ran the wood over the first tool I was quick to discover that I was working with an Ash slab…no big deal it has a open grain like hickory so it will be a good test and is easier to work with! I specifically wanted to try and fill the wood grain with 3 coats of Aqua Coat and finish the wood with one coat of Rubio mono coat. This proved to be a successful finish but it was not faster as the 3 coats of Aqua coat take a while to apply and allow to finish. I will skip this in the future. I have had a mini-split air conditioner, heat pump in my shop for the last 4 years. Here are my thoughts, how it works, what I would do different if I was to buy a new one. I did not mention in the video how much it costs to run this mini-split. A look back at how the first project I ever made as DIYTyler is holding up. Do we even have that project anymore, is it used? I build a few things before this project back in the day with my dad but no furniture. This was a build that was completed before I ever filmed anything for this YouTube channel. As our family started to grow we needed some more furniture and for the price that stores were asking for items that I knew would not hold up. I started to investigate if a toddler bed was something that I could build. "I just need this one tool and I will be able to make this!" Famous last words...look where we are now. So with a Kreg R3, a Sliding Kobalt Miter Saw, drill and sander I made this toddler bed for our eldest and we are still using it to this day, almost 9 years later. It is WAY overbuilt with 1x3 and 2x6s but it was the material I was able to work with at the time and, even though it's difficult to move around, the kids bed will last forever! If you compare this year's (2021) views to last year (2020) there is a HUGE drop off that happened all the sudden...YouTube is slowly killing the channel and it is difficult to keep motivated. Put in more editing effort than years past and it is not paying off. We have needed a proper flag pole in front of this house and it has been far too long around our place without one. This is a two hour project is simple, and results in an inexpensive yet very strong flag pole that cost less than $130. This is a quick project with galvanized pipe parts that are readily available at your home center and will change the look of your home forever. This is the third flag pole using this build method that I have made, all are still straight and strong! One even took 80MPH of wind AND a tornado and it didn't even care! We needed to wrap the skirt of the deck with something that looked nice and would keep critters from getting under the deck and making a home so we opted to use white privacy lattice panels from Grid Accents, a Avon Plastics company. The Fascia matches the picture framed walnut composite deck boards from Armadillo decking. And the railings are a DIY solution using 4" square hog wire fence panels and Armadillo 2x4 boards. Using invisible TurboClip fasteners to install the Armadillo composite deck boards on our massive 545 sqft deck. We also show how to install a picture frame accent around the deck with really takes the deck to the next level. Before the composite deck boards go down we use Armadillo joist covers to cover all the joist and prevent pre-mature rotting from water getting between the deck boards. Making huge progress forward with the deck build. How to Build Composite Deck Stairs. Building a Composite Deck Part 2. Joist, Blocking and Stairs! In this second part of the composite deck build video we are really starting to see things take shape as we add the joist, properly hanger them and level them out to make sure our Armadillo Composite decking does not have any wavy areas. We also add a bunch of blocking so we can add a beautiful accent color picture framing all the way around the deck. Then we go into great detail to cut our own stringers and build the front steps with 12" centers so we can have proper composite porch stairs. We then add our first bits of composite decking on the stairs mitering the Armadillo Campfire decking so we don't see any rough edges!
