The Isidore Heller house occupies a long, narrow lot in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood. Conforming to the irregular shape of the lot, the plan is arranged along a horizontal axis that extends back from the building’s street façade. The horizontal emphasis of the design is countered by the vertical form of the building which incorporates a substantial third floor playroom and servants’ rooms. The arcaded exterior of the third floor displays a frieze of classically-garbed maidens adapted from Wright’s cover design for the Eve of St. Agnes. As the 1890s came to a close Wright experimented with several elongated building plans that connected a series of distinct spaces along a continuous axis. The designs were markedly different from the square plans that characterized Wright’s earlier houses, and helped shape the plans of Wright’s mature Prairie buildings. James Johnson Edwards (March 6, 1918 – January 4, 1970) was an American actor in films and television. His most famous role was as Private Peter Moss in the 1949 film Home of the Brave, in which he portrayed a Black soldier experiencing racial prejudice while serving in the South Pacific during World War II. Edwards majored in psychology at Knoxville College in Tennessee and continued his education at Northwestern University where he received a master's degree in drama. While enrolled at Northwestern, he participated in student productions and in the Federal Theatre Project. During World War II, he was commissioned as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army. James Edwards died on Sunday, January 4, 1970, in San Diego, CA. He was working on a film script in his wife's Family house in San Diego when he complained of chest pains. He was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he died. The New York Times reported that his age was given as 42. Majestic Star Casino consisted of two casino gaming boats on Lake Michigan in Gary, Indiana's Buffington Harbor, owned and operated by The Majestic Star Casino, LLC. They opened in 1996 as two competing casino boats, sailing for gambling tours on alternate hours, until in 2002 Indiana legalized gambling on stationary boats. Majestic Star acquired the adjacent Trump Casino in 2007 and renamed it Majestic Star II. The two boats each had three floors of gaming, with a combined 1,900 slot machines, table games, a high-limit VIP room, a poker room, and a baccarat room. Dining options included a steakhouse and a buffet. The casinos closed in April, 2021. Emmett Leo Kelly (December 9, 1898 – March 28, 1979) was an American circus performer, who created the clown character "Weary Willie", based on the hobos of the Great Depression in the 1930s. Kelly's first professional appearance as a clown was with Howe's Great London Circus on July 14, 1921, in Mason City, Iowa. Although he originally performed as a white face clown, it was during that tour that he first appeared as a hobo character. After only a few performances as a tramp Kelly returned to more traditional makeup, but not before a photograph was made of the character which would later be identified as "Weary Willie". The photo appeared in the Howe's Great London Route Book of 1921 above a caption that read: "Emmett Kelly, The Novelty Clown, Cartoonist, Tramp". On December 9, 1978, Emmett Kelly celebrated his 80th birthday, and although he had been growing visibly weaker, he never stopped working. In February 1979, Emmett appeared in a segment on NBC's Today Show, and director Mario Pellegrini cast him in a film with Tony Bennett. A Gift of Love was scheduled to begin production in Sarasota on April 2, 1979, and although the picture was later dedicated to Emmett, he did not appear in it. On March 28, 1979, four days before filming was scheduled to begin, the man who had described himself as "just a farm boy", who had become a world-wide icon, died of a heart attack in the front yard of his home. Kelly's son, Emmett Kelly Jr., did a similar "Weary Willie" character; the two were estranged for many years as a result. Kelly Jr. died in 2006. Kelly's boyhood town of Houston, Missouri, named Emmett Kelly Park in his honor and hosted an annual Emmett Kelly Clown Festival, which attracted clowns from across the region, including Kelly's grandson, Joey Kelly, who returned to perform as a special guest. The festival ended its original 21-year run in May 2008, and returned in April 2022. According to the documentary Halloween Unmasked, the choice for the mask of the film's fictional serial killer Michael Myers was down to two: a modified Captain Kirk mask and an Emmett Kelly mask. While the Emmett Kelly mask was unsettling and eerie, it did not quite evoke the creepy feeling they were seeking. The Kirk mask did, resulting in the crew selecting it for the film. #garyindiana #trueheroes #billyrugh Have you ever heard of Billy Rugh? In 1912, a woman was severely burned in a house fire, and a call was put out for skin graft donations. Rugh was a 40 something "newsboy" who had that job as the way he was able to support himself: he had a bum leg that left him out of other jobs. He came forward and offered to help. The doctors warned him that they needed so much skin that it would cost him the bum leg, which he said never did him any favors anyway. Shortly after the amputation, he got sick in the hospital and died. His funeral was held at the new Gary Methodist Church, as it was the largest church to hold the funeral, and that was too small. Crowd estimates wildly vary, but saying the whole city was either in attendance, or followed the story, was true. I don't know if the cement, where the plaque would've been, would even still be at the Memorial Auditorium site once the entrance was razed. One of my all time favorite abandoned locations ever! Its an Abandoned Police Station turned into a haunted house attraction & that is now abandoned with everything left behind!

This gem here sits in our local area. Always had memories of driving past it through the years. Sitting on private property but the owners are ok with people visiting as long as they stay respectful of their property.
