An illegal drug that can cause damage to blood vessels
A synthetic form of morphine called "Crocodil" [[CROCK-oh-DIAL]] is ten time more potent than morphine. Officials say the drug is being used by some because it is cheaper than heroin but has a powerful narcotic effect. Long term use of the drug can cause a person's skin to turn a shade of green and become scaly and increases the risk of blood clots and blocked veins. There is no accepted medical use of the drug in the U.S.

Rachel Fox turned 109-years-old Tuesday and was given a large party at the senior citizens home where she lives in West Bloomfield. Fox was born in Montreal, Canada in 1915. Approximately 100 people gathered for her party including her 80-year-old son who visits her every day. She says the key to a long life is to be happy and kind.
General Motors is pulling back on production of its electric vehicles
The automaker says it will drop production of them to between 200-thousand to 250-thousand instead of up to 300-thousand. The automaker had promised to be fully electric by 2035.

A new contract has been reached between the Canadian government and border agents
The union and the Treasury Board agreed on a tentative deal earlier today meaning traffic and goods will continue across the Ambassador Bridge connecting Detroit and Windsor, Ontario. The bridge is one of the most important crossings in the country carrying around 25-percent of all goods between the U.S. and Canada each year. The agreement covers approximately nine-thousand border agents.

lawsuit has been filed against Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital
Alexander Morris says he was battered by some staff members and racially discriminated against in April of 2023 when he was seeking help for a breathing issue. The suit claims hospital staff did not believe he was a member of the group and he was placed in restraints and ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation. It was only after his wife arrived and proved his identity that the staff changed their minds. Morris says he was offered a 25-dollar gift card as part of an apology but he declined the offer. He's seeking over 75-thousand dollars in damages.

The series kicks off this Saturday, at the bandshell in Bay View Park, located at 208 N. First Ave. in Alpena. Generally, concerts take place from 6 to 9 p.m. every other Saturday. The park is within walking distance of downtown shopping, eating and entertainment.

A software problem with the braking systems is leading to the recall of over 211-thousand SUV's
The vehicles involved include 2022 models of the Dodge Durango, and Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks. The National Highway Safety Administration reports many of the vehicles have an issue with the anti-lock braking control module. The automaker says they are not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the problem. Dealers will update the anti-lock braking control module software at no charge and notices will be mailed starting July 26th.

Michigan Struggles With School Absenteeism
The AECF has just released their 2024 Kids Count Data Book, which contains different markers that Michigan schools struggle with. A startling 72% of fourth graders are not proficient in reading, and 20% of high school students were not graduating on time. The AECF recommends several measures in the data book for struggling schools to improve their situation, such as keeping a stricter record of absenteeism and providing intensive tutoring through the school to students who need it.

A 15-gallon fill up costs 51-dollars on average. The most expensive gas is in Jackson at three-54, while Benton Harbor has the lowest average price at three-30.

The rescue effort in Muskegon in Lake Michigan has been suspended
The search was called off by officials early yesterday afternoon due to choppy conditions on the lake and they have not said if or when they will resume the effort. He was reported seen struggling in the water and then going under Saturday afternoon. Muskegon Fire Department officials say no one has been reported missing.

Ilitch Sports and Entertainment is announcing upgrades coming to the ballpark
Two new premium seating options will be available to fans, including a Home Plate Club and Loge Boxes. The Home Plate Club will be built beneath the stands and will include an all-inclusive experience behind home plate for 500 fans, while the Loge Boxes will be located in the lower level of the park with semi-private luxury seating and access to the Home Plate Club. Officials say work on the projects will begin this year and will be completed within the 2025 season.

Hastings High School baseball coach and Barry County Undersheriff
The school district says he will not return next year due to inappropriate conduct with players after coaching the Saxons for the past 15 years. Sheriff Dar Leaf says he has been suspended as undersheriff as Michigan State Police investigate his position but did not say what he is accused of. The school district adds their investigation did not find he broke any laws but several players had been communicating with Sixberry using Snapchat for over 500 consecutive days.

Two online fundraisers have pulled in over 300-thousand dollars for the family of Cooper Drake

The Air Zoo in Kalamazoo has nearly finished restoring a FM-2 Wildcat fighter
The Air Zoo president and CEO says his first thought when he saw the plane in Wisconsin was it would never look like an airplane again, but his restorers promised him they could do the work on it. The plane was pulled from the lake on December 7, 2012. It was cut in half by the rudder of the aircraft carrier where it was trying to land and fell off the back of the ship, and the pilot was able to escape before it sank to the bottom of the lake.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer says the state is putting ten-million-dollars toward an initiative
Last year, the University of Michigan, Washtenaw Community College, General Motors, along with others signed a memorandum of understanding to form the Michigan Semiconductor Talent and Technology for Automotive Research and the funding will support the initiative. Whitmer is currently in Washington D.C. advocating for additional funding for workforce development and economic investment.

Voters in Michigan will not get to sound off on a 15-dollar minimum wage
The Michigan Supreme Court has paused the effort by One Fair Wage by not hearing the lawsuit filed by the group. Restaurant owners say they are happy with the decision but the Supreme Court is yet to rule on the "Adopt and Amend" tactic used by lawmakers in 2018 with One Fair Wage's petition. They might rule it was unconstitutional.

Constance Roberts was bound over for trial yesterday. She is alleged to have been in a long-term relationship with a married man 20-years older than her and she is accused of draining his checking and savings accounts. Those accounts had a combined balance of around three-million-dollars.

Ford Motor Company is recalling over 100-thousand Lincoln Aviator SUV's
Owners began complaining of a distorted view and tests showed the problem may be caused by cell phone usage. Ford reportedly received 478 reports of rearview camera issues between August of 2019 and last month. The recall affects models built between 2020 and 2024 and Ford says they have not been told of any accidents or injuries due to the problem. Owners will be receiving notices about the recall beginning July 2nd and are advised not to use their cellphone while the vehicle is in reverse.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is suing three tree service companies
Canary Tree Service and owner Justin Hartmann are accused by Nessel of recruiting a Mississippi,; Kentucky and Michigan based company for work. The companies are accused of misleading people about the nature of the agreements they signed, the cost of it, potential financial responsibility for costs not covered by insurance, and their legal rights and obligations. They allegedly did the work in Oakland and Washtenaw counties in 2021 and in Gaylord in 2022.
