Non-Biological Factors in Depression: Inactivity
While there are biological causes for depression, this is by no means the only factor which may contribute to this problem. Numerous studies have been published that indicate that abnormalities in chemical activity may themselves be caused by other factors. While professionals may well need to treat these issues in order to help a person stabilize their mood, it will not necessarily be a cure. Truly, medical research has made significant progress toward better understanding brain function, even identifying genetic anomalies that can make one susceptible to low moods. There are, however, factors other than biology that are involved in depression. One of them is inactivity.
How does inactivity affect someone struggling with depression and how can one use activity to help prevent depressive episodes?

Samuel de Champlain: Vision, Courage and Achievement
Over 400 years ago, a 33 year old citizen of France landed on the shore of a new land. Even at this young age, he was a seasoned explorer and a brilliant map-maker. Over the next 30 years, despite hardship, deprivation, resistance from his own government and armed conflict, he would affectively lay the initial foundation of what would become the nation of Canada.

Canada's Opioid Epidemic
You likely remember the slogan, “Just say no to drugs.” It seems simple enough. The message that drugs are destructive is one that most would agree with. Few would argue against the reality that opioid use has terrifying consequences, yet demand for the product continues to grow. Why has Canada become a leading exporter in this dangerous product and how can one escape the clutches of addiction?

Great plagues have ravaged populations throughout man's history. These plagues afflict rich and poor alike--they do not discriminate. One study set the cost of depression and anxiety to Canada at nearly $50 billion annually. The same report indicated as many as one in four Canadians unable to work due to their symptoms.
Depression serves as an underreported and underrated plague upon modern society. How has this come to be?

The Culture of Censorship and Cancellation in Western Democracies
Do you live in a country where you are free to express an opinion, however politely, that deviates from the prevailing view promoted by society, media or government? Present reality however points to that freedom being only a perception.
We often think that wide-scale censorship, which can include punishment, is only the preserve of dictatorships or nations ruled by oppressive regimes. Today renown experts in their field are being humiliated and cancelled if they do not accept popular activist opinion, even if that opinion is wrong.

Inquisition and Activism
The inquisition of the medieval period was a brutal time, when a religious organization went to brutal lengths to persecute any people they deemed not to be in agreement with their own world view. Any disagreement with the church was seen as heresy and was suppressed through torture, executions and any other methods available.
The organized suppression of truth is once again rearing its ugly head. This Modern Inquisition is more commonly referred to as cancel culture.

The End of Normal
In the realm of sex, gender, and sexuality, what is normal now? What is a normal marriage? A normal family? The answers were once commonly understood. While some might dither about details, most would broadly agree on what represented normal standards of such fundamental facets of human life: Marriage was a lifetime commitment between a man and a woman, defining a family and creating the healthiest environment for childrearing. Yet all these concepts are supposedly changing. What is normal?

Darwin's Not-So-Simple Cell
Charles Darwin’s renowned work, “On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection,” was published in November of 1859. At the time, little was known about the building blocks of life—cells. More than 150 years worth of technological advancement gives us the remarkable ability to look into these cells and reveals one of the greatest oversights in Darwin’s principle thesis. The stunning complexity of the human cell is devastating to the theory of evolution.

Never Again Masada!
Hamas terrorists invaded the state of Israel, killing civilians, beheading babies and children, raping women, and taking hostages to use as bargaining chips and human shields. They even used the cell phones of victims to send execution videos back to the victims’ contacts and families. Much of the world was shocked by such barbarity. Sadly, too many ghoulishly cheered and protested on behalf of the terrorists, just as they did on 9/11. What will happen to Israel?

Why Truth Doesn't Matter!
Do you remember when you believed in Santa Claus? Or the Easter bunny? Why did we fall for the lies?
It’s because we rely upon the information given to us by others as being true and accurate.
Here's the challenge: How do we know that the information being presented to us is true?

Truth: A Forest Fire Casualty
A June 15, 2023, Fraser Institute article reported that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sent the following tweet:
“We’re seeing more and more of these fires because of climate change.”
It is unhelpful to make or report public statements which are in fact inaccurate. Our society now more than ever needs to ensure the statements that are made are in fact correct. A loss of trust in media or in leadership is not beneficial for any society.
