Something that should never happen to God’s people happened to the ancient nation of Israel. Even if you do not believe in God, you can surely see that the world is on a downward spiral. Our freedoms are being increasingly taken away, and things we would never have even thought possible just a few short years ago are becoming commonplace and we are told that we must accept them. How has this happened? What is the cause? In this presentation we will look at why such evils are now dominating our world, affecting our lives and the lives of our children and grandchildren. Something sinister is at work and our only hope is to recognise what this is. In the time of the prophet Elijah there was a famine throughout the land of Israel, this famine was caused by the people turning from the true God to the worship of false gods. Elijah's divinely appointed mission was to call the people to repent and turn from their idolatry. Centuries later, John the Baptist came in the spirit of Elijah to prepare the way for the first advent of the Messiah and to call the people to repentance. Christians are spiritual Israel, the spiritual descendants of Abraham. Could spiritual Israel today be repeating the history of literal ancient Israel? The one sin for which God continually rebuked literal Israel and which eventually resulted in their captivity and destruction was idolatry, the very thing that God commanded them never to do, or they would provoke Him to jealousy and suffer the consequences. The majority of Christians go to church on Sunday believing this to be the day that God would have them worship on as His holy day. Looking at the world today we can see that the majority of people tolerate and accept whatever is presented to them, calling good evil and evil good. In part 2 of this 3-part series we examine the present drive for ecumenism, the uniting of all religions. Roman Catholicism is now regarded by Protestants with far greater favour than in former years. There is an increasing indifference concerning the doctrines that originally separated the Protestant churches from Rome, resulting in many Protestants reaching their hands across the gulf to clasp the hand of Rome. In Revelation chapter 13 the apostle John in vision describes seeing two beasts, one coming up from the sea and another coming up from the earth, one represents a predator, the other a gentle creature.
