Pre Rup ប្រែរូប Khmer Temple - Built in 961 - Angkor Cambodia
Pre Rup ប្រែរូប is a Hindu temple at Angkor, Cambodia, built as the state temple of Khmer king Rajendravarman and dedicated in 961 or early 962. It is a temple mountain of combined brick, laterite and sandstone construction.
The temple's name is a comparatively modern one meaning "turn the body". This reflects the common belief among Cambodians that funerals were conducted at the temple, with the ashes of the body being ritually rotated in different directions as the service progressed.
Pre Rup was dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, and it is probably located on a former shivaite ashram, built by Yasovarman I in the previous century. Perhaps it was standing at the center of a new capital city built by Rajendravarman, with the southern dike of East Baray as northern city limit, but nothing of the dwellings survived.
Located just south of the East Baray, or eastern reservoir, Pre Rup is aligned on a north–south axis with the East Mebon temple, which is located on what was an artificial island in the baray. The East Mebon was also a creation of the reign of Rajendravarman.
The temple is smaller than the more famous ones in the center of the park. It is also much less visited but that doesn’t take away from its splendor. The style of the temple as well as the height of the temple mountain are amazing. Another amazing temple in Angkor.

Hasedera temple in Kamakura - Built in 736 - Kanagawa Japan
Around 1300 years ago, two sculptors carved two Kannon statues out of a sacred tree. One of them was enshrined here at Hasedera in Kamakura. It is commonly called “Eleven-headed Kannon” since it has eleven heads on top of its own head. It measures 9.18 meters tall and this makes it one of the largest wooden Buddhist statues in Japan.
Hesedera temple resides on a mountain called “Kannon-zan”. The ground holds a large variety of flowers which bloom throughout the year welcoming visitors. Additionally, the scenic view from the observation platform on the upper ground is recognized as one of the most picturesque spots in Kamakura.
According to the legend, in 721 AD, two Kannon statues were carved out of one sacred tree in Hatsuse (in the present day Nara Prefecture). One was enshrined at the Hasedera temple in Nara, the other was thrown into the ocean with a prayer to make it reappear and save people elsewhere. After the Kannon statue traveled across the waters for fifteen long years, it finally washed ashore in a place in the present day Kanagawa Prefecture. In 736 AD, the Hasedera temple in Kamakura was established to enshrine the Kannon statue.
The temple is an amazing place to visit. The grounds are very well maintained and it offers a nice view of the ocean. The best time to visit is when the flowers are in bloom or when the fall colors happen in November. Unfortunately no photos or video can be taken in the main hall with the giant Kannon statue but that just means you have to visit yourself to see how beautiful the craftsmanship is.

Prasat Sikhoraphum - 11th Century Khmer Temple - Surin Thailand 2023
Prasat Sikhoraphum in Surin Thailand.
Surin province in Northeast Thailand houses a number of Khmer monuments, of which Prasat Sikhoraphum is one of the largest and best preserved.
This Khmer monument is located North of Angkor (current day Siem Reap in Cambodia), which was the center of the ancient Khmer empire, East of Phimai and Northeast of Muang Tum and Phanom Rung.
Prasat Sikhoraphum was most likely built during the 11th or 12th century. It was constructed as a Hindu temple dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva.
The temple complex consists of five prangs (Khmer style towers) set on a single laterite platform. The central prang is the tallest measuring 32 meters high. The central prang usually houses the linga, the sacred symbol that symbolizes the strength of the God Shiva. This prang is surrounded by four smaller prangs, that are placed in a square.
The temple complex is oriented towards the East, as is usual with Khmer temples and is surrounded by a moat.
The main attraction of Prasat Sikhoraphum are the bas reliefs of the temple, that are well preserved. Several pilasters and lintels over entrances contain very detailed carvings.
During the 16th century, the temple complex was partly renovated and turned into a Buddhist temple.
Prasat Sikhoraphum is not as large or impressive as some of the better known Khmer temples in Thailand, it is worth a visit. Because of its location away from the main tourist areas, very few foreign tourists visit this site, giving it a different, more serene atmosphere.

Tokyo Tower - Former Tallest Building in Japan - 332.9 Meters - Great Way To See Tokyo
The Tokyo Tower is a communications and observation tower in the Shiba-koen district of Minato, Tokyo, Japan, built in 1958. At 332.9 meters (1,092 ft), it is the second-tallest structure in Japan. The structure is an Eiffel Tower-inspired lattice tower that is painted white and international orange to comply with air safety regulations.
Since its completion in 1958, Tokyo Tower has become a prominent landmark in the city, and frequently appears in media set in Tokyo.
Because of the country's postwar boom in the 1950s, Japan was searching for a monument to symbolize its ascendancy as a global economic powerhouse. Hisakichi Maeda, founder and president of Nippon Denpatō, the tower's owner and operator, originally planned for the tower to be taller than the Empire State Building, which at 381 meters was the highest structure in the world. However, the plan fell through because of the lack of both funds and materials.
The new construction project attracted hundreds of tobi (鳶), traditional Japanese construction workers who specialized in the construction of high-rise structures. The Takenaka Corporation broke ground in June 1957 and each day at least 400 laborers worked on the tower. It was constructed of steel, a third of which was scrap metal taken from US tanks damaged in the Korean War. When the 90 meter long antenna was bolted into place on 14 October 1958, Tokyo Tower was the tallest freestanding tower in the world, taking the title from the Eiffel Tower by nine meters.
Despite being taller than the Eiffel Tower, Tokyo Tower only weighs about 4,000 tons, 3,300 tons less than the Eiffel Tower. While other towers have since surpassed Tokyo Tower's height, it remained the tallest artificial structure in Japan until April 2010, when it was surpassed by the Tokyo Skytree.
It is relatively inexpensive to go to the top to view the city. There are signs and pictures giving you more information of the area. It’s also located next to a very famous temple as well as other things to see. I would recommend a visit in the early evening so you can see both day and night views of the city.

Kotoku-in Temple (Daibutsu) - National Treasure - Kamakura-shi, Kanagawa Japan
The Daibutsu at Kotokuin is known as Kamakura Daibutsu.
The height is 11.31 meters (13.35 meters including the base) and the weight is about 121 tons. The construction of the bronze statue of Buddha as it appears today dates from 1252.
Kamakura Daibutsu is the only statue of Buddha in Kamakura that is designated as a national treasure.
The whole statue was gilded and placed inside of Daibutsu-den or the great Buddha hall when it was completed. It is now an outdoor Daibutsu because the Daibutsu-den building was destroyed by earthquakes and tsunamis.
This is a very popular place to visit, especially during the spring when the trees are all in bloom. The structure is amazing to see and you can go inside of it to see how it’s constructed.
Admission is 300 Yen with an additional 50 Yen if you go inside of the Buddha. It’s well worth a visit.

Asakusa District and Sensoji Temple - A Part of Old Tokyo - Japan 2023
Asakusa (浅草) is the center of Tokyo's shitamachi (literally "low city"), one of Tokyo's districts, where an atmosphere of the Tokyo of past decades survives.
Asakusa's main attraction is Sensoji, a very popular Buddhist temple, built in the 7th century. The temple is approached via the Nakamise, a shopping street that has been providing temple visitors with a variety of traditional, local snacks and tourist souvenirs for centuries.
Asakusa used to be Tokyo's leading entertainment district. During the Edo Period (1603-1867), when the district was still located outside the city limits, Asakusa was the site of kabuki theaters and a large red light district. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, modern types of entertainment, including movie theaters.
Large parts of Asakusa were destroyed in the air raids of 1945. And while the area around the rebuilt Sensoji has since regained its former popularity, the same cannot be said for Asakusa's entertainment district. The opening of the 634 meter tall Tokyo Skytree, a twenty minute walk across the Sumida River from Asakusa, has led to an increase of tourists again.
Kaminarimon is the first of two large entrance gates leading to Sensoji Temple. First built more than 1000 years ago, it is the symbol of Asakusa. The Nakamise shopping street leads from Kaminarimon to the temple grounds.
Sensoji (浅草寺, Sensōji, also known as Asakusa Kannon Temple) is a Buddhist temple located in Asakusa. It is one of Tokyo's most colorful and popular temples.
The legend says that in the year 628, two brothers fished a statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, out of the Sumida River, and even though they put the statue back into the river, it always returned to them. Consequently, Sensoji was built nearby for the goddess of Kannon. The temple was completed in 645, making it Tokyo's oldest temple.
This area is very popular to visit for good reason and something that should be seen during a visit to Tokyo.

Atago-jinja Shrine - Tokyo Japan - One of The Oldest in Tokyo
The Atago-jinja Shrine is a Shinto shrine located on Mount Atago in Kyoto, Japan. It is one of the oldest shrines in Tokyo and is easily accessible from Shimbashi and Kamiyacho stations. Enshrined is Atago Gongen, who protects Kyoto from fire.
The late-Kamakura period Honden has been designated an Important Cultural Property. The Atago-jinja Shrine in Minato ward in southern Tokyo is a spiritual branch of the Atago-jinja Shrine in Kyoto, which is famous for enshrining gods who offer protection from fire. It is characterized by its high stone steps connecting numerous pavilions hidden in a luxuriant natural setting. The current shrine buildings on the site date from 1958. The shrine has 86 stairs from the bottom to the main shrine and is 26 meters above sea level, which is the highest in Tokyo’s 23 wards.
The Atago Shrine 愛宕神社 in Minato, Tokyo, Japan is a Shinto shrine established in 1603 (the eighth year of the Keichō era) on the order of shōgun Tokugawa Ieyasu.
According to legend, a young samurai dared to ride his horse up the stairs to deliver plum blossoms to the shōgun. It took his horse only one minute to get up, but 45 minutes to get down, and the horse was utterly exhausted afterwards. This scene is depicted in a painting in the main shrine hall.
Currently the shrine is being expanded and the lot gardens are being remodled. Even with that it’s worth a short visit to see and climb the stairs.

Baseball in Japan - Chiba Lotte Marines vs Orix Buffaloes- October 7th 2023
Nippon Professional Baseball 日本野球機構 or NPB is the highest level of baseball in Japan. Locally, it is often called Puro Yakyū プロ野球 meaning Professional Baseball. Outside of Japan, it is often referred to as "Japanese baseball".
The roots of the league can be traced back to the formation of the "Greater Japan Tokyo Baseball Club" 大日本東京野球倶楽部 in Tokyo, founded in 1934, and the original circuit for the sport in the Empire founded two years later, the Japanese Baseball League (JBL), which continued to play even through the final years of World War II.
The organization that is today's NPB was formed when the JBL reorganized in 1950, creating two leagues with six teams each in the Central League and the Pacific League with an annual season-ending Japan Series championship play-off series of games starting that year.
In this game we visit the Chiba Marines host the defending champion Orix Buffaloes. This is the final home game of the season for the Marines so the atmosphere was electric in front of a capacity crowd of 30,000 fans. These two releases will face each other in the upcoming playoffs.
Japan has many things to see and do and baseball is one of the best activity to take part in because the crowd is as much a part of the game as the team. It’s unlike any other baseball environment in the world.

Wat Paramaiyikawat - Second Class Royal Temple on Koh Kret Island - Thailand 2023
Wat Paramaiyikawat Warawihan วัดปรมัยยิกาวาส วรวิหาร or simple known as Wat Paramaiyikawat วัดปรมัยยิกาวาส is an ancient Buddhist temple located on Ko Kret, Nonthaburi Province, central Thailand on the bank of the Chao Phraya River.
The temple is classified as a second class royal temple. It is believed that it was built in the late Ayutthaya period after the begin of Ko Kret. At that time it was called "Wat Pak Ao" วัดปากอ่าว, which means "estuary temple" because of the location.
In 1764, when the Burmese occupied the city during the fall of Ayutthaya. The temple was left empty, until 1774 when the Mons immigrated during the reign of King Taksin. He ordered it to be restored. The temple is also called "Pia Moo Kia Terng" เภี่ยมู้เกี้ยเติ้ง by the mons, which means "temple at the cape".
In 1874, King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) presided over the Thot Kathin ทอดกฐิน ceremony coving four Mon temples of Nonthaburi. He saw that the temple was in poor condition so he ordered the restoration and overhaul of the temple by preserving the Mon's style in order to devote the merit to his grandmother (Princess Sudarattanarachaprayu. She helped raise him from when he was young and named the temple "Wat Paramaiyikawat" like today, which means "temple of grandmother".
The interior of the ordination hall features mural paintings in Thai traditional style and the doors and windows are decorated in colored stucco style. Outside the temple at the rightmost of the island corner is the location of the "Phra Chedi Mutao" พระเจดีย์มุเตา, a white pagoda in Mon's style. King Chulalongkorn once was here to pour relics of Buddha inside in 1884. This pagoda has a distinctive feature, it is a leaning pagoda.
Originally, it was an upright pagoda. Later on, water eroded the bank therefore causing the pagoda to tilt about the year 1891, despite efforts to restore it in 1992, it was unsuccessful. The pagoda is replica of the Shwemawdaw Pagoda of Bago, Myanmar which is a pagoda that is worshiped and highly respected by the Mons.
Both pagoda and temple has been registered as national ancient monuments by the Fine Arts Department in 1935.
Wat Paramaiyikawat is also regarded as the gateway of Ko Kret because it has a ferry pier opposite the mainland of Nonthaburi (Pak Kret), which is a very popular route.
This is just one of the many things to see on Koh Kret. It is a very popular destination for locals and tourists alike to visit.

Wat Bang Oi Chang - Built in 1761 - Nonthaburi Thailand 2023
Wat Bang Oi Chang วัดบางอ้อยช้าง is an ancient temple located on the Khlong Bangkok Noi in the area of Bang Kruai District, Nonthaburi Province, on the outskirts of Bangkok.
Its name meaning "place of canes for elephants temple". The locals in this community had the duty of supplying Letha t food for the army, normally sugar-canes and other plants to the royal elephants during the Ayutthaya period. In addition, it was a place where densely grown wodier trees (Oi Chang in Thai) sprouts, hence the name "Bang Oi Chang". At that time, people used the wodier tree bark for elephants. They pounded the bark until soft. The soft bark was then put over the backs of each battle elephant, beneath the howdah. It helped protect the elephant's skin from rubbing directly against the seat.
This temple is assumed to have been built in the late Ayutthaya period around 1761 by local people. During the war with Burma in the King Taksin's reign, the temple site was also used as a place to gather troops for war. Including a place for medical treatment for injured people as well as beasts of burden.
Wat Bang Oi Chang is also mentioned in Nirat Phra Pathom (นิราศพระประธม, "journey to Phra Pathom Chedi"), a poem by famous poet Sunthon Phu in 1842. When he traveled to Nakhon Pathom Province to pay homage to Phra Pathom Chedi and passed to this temple by boat.
The inside of the temple is full of interesting things and many other precious relics, such as the hanging (raised as on hill) Buddha’s footprint cast in bronze more than 200 years ago, the only one like this in the world. The temple museum exhibits a number of old items, including wooden cabinets for keeping Tripiṭaka scripture. Among them are cupboards that show foreign influences such as communities of Chinese people and Kāma (god of love and passion), with a portrait of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) given to the temple when he made merit at the temple, according to the village head, including items used in the daily lives of people in the past, old coins, kitchenware, war weapons, a wooden boat etc.
In addition, the principal Sukhothai Buddha statue in Māravijaya posture named "Phra Si Satsada" (พระศรีศาสดา), it can be considered an important Buddha statue with a long legend and history alongside Phra Phuttha Chinnarat in Phitsanulok Province and Phra Phuttha Chinnasi of Wat Bowonniwet in Bangkok. It once was almost sent to enshrine at Wat Pradu Chimphli in Bangkok's Thonburi side, but was rejected by King Mongkut (Rama IV) because it was an important Buddha statue.
Unfortunately the day i visited the museum and footprint were closed. It is still worth a visit to see.

Koh Kret Island - Best Day Trip in Bangkok - Thailand 2023
Koh Kret เกาะเกร็ด is a small island in the Chao Phraya River in Nonthaburi Province, Thailand. It is around 3 km long and 3 km wide with an area of over 4.2 square kilometers. It has seven main villages, the largest and most populous being Ban Mon. The island is best known for Thai-Mon people who make pottery for a living. The island is only accessed by ferries.
Koh Kret was originally a meander located on the Chao Praya river. Due to Chao Praya river's curvy path, ships would take longer to reach Ayutthaya, Siam's capital at the time. During the reign of King Thaisa, the king wanted to reduce shipping time and improve the kingdom's economy. He planned a canal which would bypass the meander and act as a shortcut for maritime transport. The canal was dug in 1722, requiring around 10,000 men and taking over a month to complete. After the canal was dug, shipping to Ayutthaya became faster and the canal was called "Klong Lat Kret" by locals. As time passed, the canal became gradually wider due to erosion and became part of the river itself, causing Koh Kret to become an island.
Today Koh Kret is promoted as a cultural tourism destination in Nonthaburi, a suburb of Bangkok. Visitors can experience the way of life of locals and learn about pottery making. You can also rent a bicycle to ride around the island. The food is a mix of thai food and Mon and is the biggest draw for Thais and visitors. Mon food such as khao chae, fried flower and thot man no kala, a variation of Thai fish cake. It is a local food that is not found in other parts of Thailand.
I show you what the island is like now and what to expect if you visit the island. It really is a great side trip for anyone that comes to the city. It’s family friendly and great for all ages.

The temple is small and relatively unknown. The main hall has recently been restored with plaster murals inside. For anyone that enjoyed old temples it’s worth a visit but not to make a special trip to see.

Wat Ku - Site of Rama V’s Queens Death - Nonthanaburi Thailand 2023
This Mon style temple located on the bank of the Chao Phraya River in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi. It was constructed in the Thonburi period. Inside the old chapel, the walls are finely decorated with paintings in the Mon style. The temple is known as the area where the shipwreck of King Rama V's queen took place. A palace has been built to commemorate her on the river bank.
Her body was temporarily placed in the monastery before lying in state in Bangkok.
The ship was salvaged later and kept in the dock near the ancient wiharn that enshrines a big reclining Buddha.
There is also a pavilion constructed as another remembrance to her death in the Bang Pa-In Palace.
The temple with the murals in the Ayutthaya style ordination hall, giant reclining Buddha and the shrine to the late queen make this a great place to visit. Worth a few hours of your time.

Wat San Chao Floating Market - Pathum Thani Thailand 2023
Wat San Chao Floating Market is a small floating market north of Bangkok next to the Chaophraya River in Pathum Thani. It’s not a floating market with lots of small boats that you envision but more of a riverside market.
Floating markets in Thailand are very traditional. In the past the dense jungle made travel by land very difficult so people would use the many rivers and canals to transport their goods. Along the waterways markets would develop for people to exchange their goods. The markets would be built on the land and serve as a meeting point. So most of the floating markets are more of riverside markets instead. Wat San Chao is this type of floating market.
What it lacks in boats it makes up for in food. It features the normal Thai food as well as regional favorites. In addition to the shopping there is a Mon style temple and 2 small Chinese temples in the market area for the local Thais to make merit while here.
It’s located about an hour north of Bangkok and not on the normal tourist list of things to do. When you visit expect to only see the local Thais and visitors form Bangkok that are doing a day trip out of the city.

Wat Sing - 400 Yesr Old Ayutthaya Style Temple - Pathum Thani Thailand 2023
Wat Sing is an ancient temple, built during the Ayutthaya period in the province of Pathum Thani, which is considered historically significant for the Sam Kok community. The Ayutthaya Chronicles mention the migration of the Mon people, to settle in the Sam Kok village and the temple of Wat Sing. This temple served as a refuge for Buddhist monks who fled the Burmese invasion, along with the Mon people.
Wat Sing is a temple closely associated with the Sam Kok community and has a longer history than the Mon people's settlement in the Sam Kok village.
The architecture of Wat Sing exhibits various art styles from the Ayutthaya period, which have been preserved and cherished by the Sam Kok community.
The Wihan Noi is a small rear temple constructed with Thai style brickwork and adorned with terracotta tiles. The front facade features a gabled roof, and the base of the temple is in the shape of a curved ship's hull, resembling a semi circular stupa. It retains the characteristics of a semi gable with small openings on the sides of the temple, following the architectural style of the Ayutthaya period.
Inside the temple, there is a revered statue called "Phra Phutthasirimahasam" facing the west. It is a large Buddha image crafted from red sandstone, accompanied by standing attendant figures on both sides.
The ancient monastery of Wat Sing was initially built during the Ayutthaya period and underwent significant renovations during the early Rattanakosin Kingdom. It is enclosed by a surrounding wall with triangular shaped segments, symbolizing the art of the Ayutthaya period. The entrance is a triangular brick archway designed in the Ayutthaya style.
The building itself has a rectangular shaped prang with multiple tiers on the roof and a reduction in roof levels, forming three tiers. The corners of the roofs are adorned with small and tall chofas, representing the typical architecture of the Ayutthaya period.
Inside the ordination hall, there is a statue of "Luang Pho Phuttharattanamuni" as the principal Buddha image facing the east. The interior of the ordination hall features a Sukhothai-style Buddha statue surrounded by an inner gallery.
Another remarkable architectural feature, which is rare to find today, is the Wihan Thong or earthen sanctuary. It is an open rectangular structure with terracotta tiles, and its apex is a three-pointed curved gable-end, showcasing beautiful divine and lotus flower carvings.
The interior of the earthen sanctuary consists of a simple wooden pillar structure painted in red.
Inside, there is the revered statue of "Phra Phuttharoungtho" (also known as Phra Phuttharoungthot), an ancient and venerable Buddha image featuring a Rattanakosin style pagoda.
This art piece originates from the Ayutthaya period and is approximately 400 years old.
Behind the glass frame of the pagoda, there is the enshrined statue of "Luang Pho Phet," positioned on both sides.
Adjacent to the earthen sanctuary is the old gabled stupa, which is an ancient building from the Ayutthaya period and had a significant influence from the late Ayutthaya period. In the late period, it transformed into a newly built structure, adopting a two story gabled architectural style. However, it was demolished in 2011.
The temple is a bit out of Bangkok but is worth a visit if you enjoy seeing old temples as much as I do.

Sai Tai Mai Center Night Market - Bangkok Thailand 2023
Sai Tai Mai Center Night Market is located on Borommaratchachonnani Road, next to SC Plaza shopping center which at the same time is Sai Tai Mai Bus Station also known as the new Bangkok Southern Bus Terminal.
Sai Tai Mai Center Night Market offers good vibe and really local shopping atmosphere as many locals gather here every night and the number of tourists visiting the market is low due to the distance from downtown Bangkok. Even with it being a bit outside of Bangkok it’s still worth a visit.
The market is divided into different zones. The largest is zone is for shopping and is in the middle. It’s ringed by a double level of containers with bars and restaurants. The outer zone is food. There are many different foods on offer so there will be something for everyone.
Sai Tai Mai Night Market is open daily, from 18:00 to 02:00.

Traditional Hand Crafted Monk’s Alms Bowls - Ban Batt Community Bangkok Thailand 2023
On a narrow side street in Bangkok called Soi Ban Baat, just south of Wat Saket, the temple known as Golden Mountain, there is a small community of five families of artisans, popularly known as “Monk’s Alms Bowl Village.”
For centuries they have manufactured alms bowls used by monks to gather food offerings.
The families today say they have continued working “in the right place” and using almost the exact same methods as the previous generations, using only their hands and a hammer as tools.
The community gets to work as if it was an assembly line. Once a monk places an order there are eight different steps during the manufacturing process.
The process is not simple and it takes about five days to complete each alms bowl.
To manufacture the bowls, two strips of steel are welded in a cross representing the cardinal points. They are then attached to a ring to shape the structure. Gaps are filled with individual pieces of steel and hammered before applying the protective varnish or enamel.
Finding the neighborhood, on the corner of Bumrungmuang and Boriphat roads, is a little bit tricky but worth the search to see the craftsman in action.
It’s nice to see a bit of tradition still alive with the continued spread of the city. The tradition is slowly losing popularity as the younger generation is not learning the skill but maybe more visitors will stimulate more interest in the craft.

Wat Sam Phran - The Dragon Temple - Thailand 2023
Wat Sam Phran วัดสามพราน is a Buddhist temple (wat) in Amphoe Sam Phran, Nakhon Pathom province, around 40 kilometers to the west of Bangkok. The temple was officially registered in 1985. In English, the wat is sometimes referred to as the "Dragon Temple".
The temple is notable for its 17 story tall pink cylindrical building with a gigantic red and green dragon sculpture curling around the entire height. The interior of the dragon feature is hollow and contains a spiraling flight of stairs. It also contains a huge Buddha statue as well as many additional Buddhist statues. The Wat Sam Phran is 80 meters high because Buddha died at the age of 80 years old.
The dragon that encompasses the building from the bottom to the top symbolises a human's journey from sorrow to happiness and from hell to heaven. According to a Thai story, Phaya Naga (a serpent), was declined spiritual power by Buddha. The serpent then approached Buddha for ordinance by assuming a human form and was permitted to be a monk who wore white, unlike the other monks who wore yellow.
At the footsteps of the main building are seven small shrines dedicated to Buddha for each day of the week. The seventeen floors signify the heavenly realms that one reaches in the afterlife based on the strength and quality of their past karma. Making a wish before climbing up the temple through the dragon belly is considered to bring good fortune.
The temple is very unusual and worth a visit if you are looking for something to do outside of Bangkok.

Maeklong Railway Market - Thailands Most Dangerous Market - Great Day Trip From Bangkok
In Samet Songkhram, about an hour outside of Bangkok, is Maeklong Railway Market (Talet Rom Hup). The market is one of the largest produce and seafood markets in Thailand. In addition to fresh seafood and fruit the market is infamous for one small thing - a train runs right through it!
In 1995 the Maeklong Railway built a commuter railroad line right through the middle of a very popular market. Instead of moving the vendors just adapted to the situation and new conditions. They modified the market stalls and work around a train that passes through eight times a day, seven days a week.
It’s a great day trip out of the city and can be combined with stops at some of the temples or floating markets like Damnoen Saduk or Amphawa Floating Markets west of Bangkok.

Port FC vs Prachuap Khiri Khan - Wild Finish - September 17, 2023
Early in the season port is sitting in the top 3 of the standings with high expectations. With several additions to the lineup the squad has a lot of potential. As always the atmosphere at PAT Stadium is electric. Facing a team that finished at the bottom of the standing last year, just out of relegation should mean a 3 point night for the home team. As always though teams come to Port and bring their A game in front of the best crowd in Thai League 1.

Amphawa Floating Market - Great Day Trip from Bangkok - Thailands Best 2023
Amphawa Floating Market or Amphawa Evening Market is one of the largest and oldest floating markets in Thailand. The market is located in Samut Songkhram province, just 70 kilometers southwest of Bangkok and it takes approximately 1.5 hours to get there from the Thai capital.
As Amphawa Floating Market is not far from Bangkok, it makes this place a popular weekend destination for both locals and tourists who like to come here and enjoy a relaxing Thai style shopping atmosphere.
Amphawa has a long history reflecting Thai heritage. It was considered to be an important water transportation hub of Samut Songkhram province. Not surprisingly, Amphawa was also a commercial hub with a large floating market and waterfront community.
One of the highlights of Amphawa Floating Market is a large selection of delicious food. With the abundance of Samut Songkhram province, many fresh vegetable and fruit shops are lined up waiting for buyers.
At Amphawa Floating Market you can expect to see vendors selling food and beverages such as fried clams, grilled squids, noodle, coffee and Thai desserts on their boats.
