Guided Trout Fishing on Lake Taneycomo
We had a great day of fishing with guide Ronnie Lawson on Lake Taneycomo. We traveled up towards the dam and we were float fishing with the current in Ronnie’s boat he just put his Lowrance trolling motor and ran it remotely maneuvering us around other boat doing the same drift fishing or still fishing. He used a 4lb leader with a small split shot 18” up from a small treble hook tipped with yellow or rainbow garlic Gulp with flecks of glitter. We basically just drifted dragging the sinker along the bottom while the bait floats above the bottom waiting for a trout to strike. Ronnie is a great guy; and guides for either lake Taneycomo or Table Rock Lake, we had a lot of fun comparing fishing/hunting laws and stories from both Missouri and Wisconsin. I would highly recommend using Ronnie’s guide service if you are going to be in the Branson area. I have links below.

Dairyland Classic Flat Track Plymouth Wi 5-31-24
My wife and I went to Plymouth Wisconsin for the Dairyland Classic flat track motorcycle races Friday 5-31-24, our travels took us south from our home town of Maplewood Wisconsin 1 hour and 31 minutes to Plymouth Wisconsin, at the racetrack, and fair grounds. We had a terrific time, and few beers, and enjoyed the races. There were a few crashes, but we never saw the ambulance leave so hopefully nothing too serious.

The Rebuilding of a Deer Stand in the Cedars
This is a deer stand I built out of cedar rails, two by fours, and plywood in 2003 for my wife and son to deer hunt out of when he was 12 years old. About 2018 I built and installed ¼” x 2” x 2” steel X–bracing below the cedar rails to keep the wind from ripping the stand apart. As of 2024 it was getting pretty rough and needed some TLC, actually a complete rebuild, being I am older now, having a little more money and less time. I rebuilt it with all treated wood, including four by fours, two by fours, and even some ½’ plywood as I want this to be the last rebuild in my lifetime at 63 years of age this year time has been taking its toll on my body, climbing and reaching are getting more difficult every year. In the video things to notice: the new ladder rungs are much closer together to make climbing for children and elderly persons much easier, there is a lower stand to sit out in the elements and the house above which has an Uncle Josh propane heater in it. If you go back and watch some of my earlier posted late season hunting videos you will see me shoot some animals from this stand. I actually prefer sitting out in the open so I can hear, smell, & see the trees, wildlife, and surroundings better, but this enclosed stand is much nicer in inclement weather. Hope you enjoyed the picture video, if you have any questions or have a video you’d like me to make please comment, and I’ll do my best.

$50 Amazon Gift Card Giveaway #6 Deer Hunting Tips Video 3
In this video I cover the fence line that I brushed out in Deer Hunting Tips Video 2. I also cover how a fence line and the wire height can help you in deer hunting. I show you where my stands are located, and explain why they are where they are, and I cover a safety tip. First deer always like to follow fence lines, the upper wire should be high enough that they don’t like to jump over it, except their favorite crossing area, there leave the upper wires in place and make the lowest wire twenty to twenty four inches above the ground, a 2.5 year old bucks antlers are tall enough that they will have to bow their head to get under that height. So when they approach the fence, they look in all direction to verify all is clear, bow their head, as soon as their antlers clear the fence they stand up and again look around, this gives you enough time to stand, draw your bow, and make the shot as they stand back up. Take a crossing that they like most, and set up your stands around it for the different winds you will be hunting. Fall by me the wind is typically Southwest or Northwest. The deer love the fence crossing where my stands are because there are about ten wild apple trees in about a 200’ circle of my stands. I talk a little on rubs, and licking braches, and cover a safety tip at the end of this video.

CBR Pro-Cart Championship Round 1
This is round one of my nephew Colton Berns CBR Pro-Cart Championship. The track we run on today is only one of several configurations Colton and his father Keven have created. This race was held on 4/26/24 the weather conditions were perfect with cloud cover so Colton was able to keep water in the track, and the dust down. The race was 20 laps with a competition caution lap at 10 laps, hitting/bumping is allowed, but retaliation is also allowed. All of these carts a clocked at 18 mph maximum speed and single left wheel drive to keep it fair for all participants. There will be six races this season with points awarded each race depending on laps led, fastest lap, lap led before competition caution, and place of finish. A draw of the hat for starting position each race is done allowing everyone a chance to start in the pole position, or front row. In this race I got lucky and pulled the outside pole position. Racers are myself Ricky Hembel #11, Colton Berns #307 Sam Hanson #12, Mark Bishop #25, Ethan Rouer #65. Thank you Colton, & Keven for all you do to create and keep a level, damp racing surface, flagging, building new tracks, promoting, and rules! Fly Fishing Lake Taneycomo, Branson Missouri March 2024
Taneycomo is in the county of Taney Missouri, Taney-co-Mo (Taney county Missouri) trivia tid-bit for you! Taneycomo is a man-made lake in the Ozark Mountains of Branson, MO on the White River. The Powersite dam above holds Table Rock Lake. In this video I feature a fly fisherman who knows just where to go which is the outflow from the Fish Hatchery, and just what fly is in the air in March, which is the Midge. Where he was fishing was the best spot, as the fish couldn’t see him due to the rushing water, trout have very good eyesight and most times will not bite if they know your there, this can even be them seeing your shadow on the bank or the feel of heavy footsteps. This guy was tossing his line upstream and let it float down naturally, exactly what was needed. I really enjoyed watching him during this video.

Deer Hunting Tips Video 2
In this video I cover cleaning up a fence line for deer hunting, and fixing up the fence, why you want to do that, and how it will affect deer and their movements. Obviously if you set up a stand in a certain spot where the deer cross the fence you want them to come in that direction so you have a chance at a shot.

Deer Hunting Tips Video 1
This video contains, information on starting to walk down and look where your stands are in relationship to where the deer trails are running, brushing out shooting lanes, and cleaning up dead falls so the deer keep using the trails your hunting over. It also covers a tip on how to rig up a safety chain on your stand in case an older nylon strap should break. The property I hunt is private, but I do not own it, the owners are just great people and allow me to hunt their property. The video link of the large buck I missed in 2023 is below, I had not heard of anyone that bagged him in the 2023 deer season.

$50 Amazon Giftcard Giveaway #5 Turkey Hunting 2018 with Bow
I show you three days of my seven day 2018 turkey hunting season in Wisconsin. On this year I was out with bow trying to get a nice tom, unfortunately after trying to make too long of a shot, I couldn’t get any toms close enough for another try. The first morning when they came around my left side would have been my best bet, close shot, not spooked yet, but the hen caught sight of something she just didn’t feel right and took the two toms back where they came from before I could get off a shot.

Pagosa Springs Colorado by Hot Air Balloon
The date was June 22, 2023, my wife & I were visiting my mom, brother, & his wife who live there. This was one of the many fun adventures my wife scheduled for us. Every ride is different as the wind, and wind strength is what denotes which direction, and how far you will be heading, and somewhat approximately where you will land. This was a great trip, very enjoyable, and very safe. The owner of this company, who was piloting our balloon, has permission from most of the Pagosa Springs residents so they can land pretty much anywhere, except there are always some dinks who want to shut the operation down. Great group of people, we got to see an airplane take off from the local airport, our balloon reflection in the water below, and many terrific sights. There was one other balloon up there from a different business that we seen. This worked out great for my video as we were the first balloon occupants, and then got to ride along and chase the balloon until it landed, and I got to record the wrap up and loading of the balloon. If you are going to be in the Pagosa Springs, Colorado area schedule your trip so you don’t miss this great experience!

Molly Hatchet, Pig in the Pines, 2015
This is the concert performed by Molly Hachet in 2015 at the Pig in the Pines festival in Saint Germain, Wisconsin. Pig in the Pines is a yearly festival where they have a barbecued pork ribfest contest, some rides fun, and a concert. In this video Molly Hatchet plays live “Dreams I’ll Never See” and then “Flirtin’ With Disaster”. The members of Molly Hatchet in 2015 are stated below. One of the greatest concerts I’ve ever been to, small venue, up close & personal, long live southern rock! May the Lord bless and keep those members no longer with us, and watch over those still here and rocking out. In 2015 I didn’t have a very great camera a little grainy and obviously I was rocking out myself after a few beers and free handing the camera!

$50 Amazon Giftcard giveaway #4, Kayak Fishin the Fox River February 2024
This video is a culmination of two weeks on the Fox River in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the first day was 2/21/24, in which I caught two fish a nice sized catfish and a nice walleye, I released the catfish, and lost the walleye at the boat. The second day was 2/27/24 and I caught three walleye, landed the first one and the last one, the second one got off just as I was about to net it. Both days were terrific, calm all the first day, the second day started out really nice and got a little windier as the day went on as there was a storm moving into the area that night. I did a little trolling with a purple Flicker Minnow, but the fish I caught were on a ½ oz green jig head tipped with a minnow and a small rattle attached. Many say on Facebook that live bait fishing is dead, I threw everything I had at them in these two days and all they wanted was what I caught them on. It got up to 70 degrees on this day in Green Bay; the next day was a whole different story at 12 degrees and a 25 mph wind in the morning in Sturgeon Bay. Happy fishing everyone.

Froze in Ice Shack Removal 2019
Ice shack removal in Little Sturgeon, Wisconsin 2019, was completed on 3/15/19; shack had to be off the ice by 3/17/19. The shack had been on the ice all 2018-2019 season and we had gotten 72 inches of snow during the winter. This shack sat unused by its owner the whole winter, she did not have a snowmobile and could not get out to it. The shack slowly sunk into the ice with all the thawing, freezing, and rain we had, it was buried 8” in ice by the time we came to move it. 45 minutes of work by Shawn Henderson and myself, and it was removed.

Whitefish on Larson’s Reef
Fishing whitefish Sunday 2-19-17 on Larson’s Reef Sturgeon Bay, 54 feet of water. All of the water that was on top of the ice yesterday as much as 6” in some spots, is under the ice today, this made for a much nicer commute to my Larson’s reef spot. Temperature was 45 degrees with very light winds, the fish were not as aggressive as yesterday, but some were at times. I lost a few fish had a couple wrap around the camera cable, I got one, lost one, but it made for an exciting day. I ended up with five fish after the day ended.

$50 Amazon Gift Card Giveaway #3, Perch Fishing 2024
It has been another terrible ice fishing season, I didn’t think as bad as last year was that it could be beat, but this year has been the worst. We finally got ice from a week of crazy cold weather the second week of January, then the weather went from -18 to two weeks of pretty much lower to mid 30’s. So we have really had one week of ice fishing, and not on the big bay, basically just Little Sturgeon, and Sawyer Harbor, with a little close to shore big bay fishing. So I got out twice for perch, this is my video from 1/23/24, I catch probably a dozen or so fish but keep only seven, I got two about 11”, one around 10”, then some smaller guys from tip ups hooked to deep to release. Happy fishing everyone, by the looks of the long range forecast open water fishing is just around the corner!

DeWalt 20V Drill & Cabelas Auger Review
The drill in this video I bought last summer, this 20 volt DeWalt Drill number DCD998 brushless, cordless, hammer drill along with two DCB208, 8 amp hour batteries, and a DCB118 Fast charger. I had to buy all the components that I specifically wanted as they were not sold as a package on any of their deals, the total cost straight through DeWalt was $409.90. The only complaint I have with this drill is DeWalt redesigned the handle since my last drill which was an 18 volt,, and now my hand wants to slip up the handle and the drill constantly reverses directions, I have not had this issue with the ice auger, only with drilling. The Auger itself is a Cabelas 8” auger and works well; I have had absolutely no issues with the auger for $149.00 a great deal! The day I made the video was 35 degrees, there was about 10” of soft ice, and two bars left on my 8 amp hour battery.

Cut The Red Line, lol, Door County Whitefish
Cut The Red Line, lol, Door County Whitefish was recorded on February 2, 2020 on the Bay of Green Bay in Door County, Wisconsin, my good friend Kyle Holmes and I went whitefish fishing in the ice with his tent. We had a blast, a few very funny moments on this day kept us both laughing continuously, I had a wonderful time that I will remember for the rest of my life, I have been laughing daily as I have been putting this video together. We had a fish go down the 18’ depth so fast it hit the rocky zebra mussel bottom really hard, Kyle lost his fishing pole down the hole during a fish retrieval, my fish had tangled the camera, and Kyle’s line, it was a mess, Kyle kept telling me to just cut his red line, I could feel a slight weight on the red line and started wondering what it was, you can see me look in the tent, and then I ask Kyle where his rod is because I don’t see it in the tent, is it down the hole is that the weight on the red line I’m feeling, yep that’s what it was Kyle say’s glad you didn’t cut the red line, and we laughed, and laughed!

My brother-in-law Keven Berns built this RC Traxxas truck track to scale per the Crandon International Off-Road Raceway in Crandon, Wisconsin, nicknamed the Big House. This video footage is from Sunday July 5th, 2015 we use 1/10th scale Traxxas trucks. All of the truck bodies were bought, then painted or stickered to match the respective driver at that time. Lots of fun, a few beers, and an even playing field between the youngsters and the adults. Eskimo Mako M43 Ice Auger review
End of ice fishing season 2016 I went to buy an ice auger, Fleet Farm was having an end of season sale, the Eskimo Stingray auger was $250.00, and had a 33CC engine. I had watched a YouTube video on the Stingray but it seemed like the auger bit rotated rather slowly, so I thought maybe this machine is a little under powered being it was the lowest of their auger line. I looked at the information on the box and sure enough the gear ratio on the Stingray is 49:1 which means the auger bit will turn one revolution for every 49 revolutions of the engine. The Mako which has a 43CC engine had a gear ratio of 30:1, auger spins faster, cuts the ice faster, larger engine all better things with only a 6 pound difference in weight. The Mako was only $275.00, what a deal, I bought it, and love it, great product.
This auger is at my house in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, it still runs very well I have just switched over to a DeWalt battery drill & Cabela’s XPS EZE Pro Auger. If you want the Eskimo Mako M43 shown in this video I am giving it away free. This auger was won by Patsulloutdoors.
