The New Covenant is the promise that God makes with mankind that He will forgive sin and restore communion with those whose hearts believe in His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the mediator of the New Covenant, and His death on the cross is the basis of the promise. He defeated death by His resurrection and restored life for those who believe in Him. In Jeremiah 31 and Ezekiel 36, this new covenant is explained. A covenant in which God will once again enter into a relationship with his people. And now God's law will not be an external thing, but it will be actually written on their hearts. God will make his people new. He will cleanse them from their sins. He will wash them and be in their midst in a way that they never experienced under the old covenant. Under this covenant, a new priesthood was also established replacing the Levitical Priesthood and restoring an order of priest who who walk in the Melchizedek priesthood of Prophet, Priest, and King. It is this transformation that Jesus established in His blood. In Acts 2:17 Peter quotes the prophet Joel, saying, "And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh." Peter taught that the Day of Pentecost was a fulfillment of this prophecy. In these passages, some aspects of the end-times prophecy have been fulfilled. In addition, many view the establishment of the modern state of Israel in 1948 (I disagree) as a sign of the end times. Why? The Bible often speaks of the role of Israel in the end times, yet it did not exist as a nation for 1,900 years. In 1948, the re-establishment of modern Israel opened the way for many end-times prophecies about Israel to be literally fulfilled. But is the modern state of Israel, the Israel. Scripture is speaking about? The Bible also predicts a future global government that will exist during the tribulation period. The prophecies described in Daniel 7:20 and Revelation 13:1 each point to a revived Roman Empire that closely resembles today's European Union. Though not a clear fulfillment, it certainly connects with this aspect of end-times prophecy. Many details of end-times prophecy are often debated regarding fulfillment or degree of fulfillment. Not every prediction is clear at this time. However, it is clear that since the time of the apostles, the New Testament describes Christians as living in the last days and the difficulties that will be included. We frequently mention the testimony of God, but what exactly is His testimony and what does this testimony mean to us? The testimony is the self-revelation of God. In other words, it represents God's heart desire, which is also God's requirement; or we may say, God's standard. His standard reveals himself, showing us what a God He is. Times of Visitation. When the word declares the season. In Luke 19:40-44, Jesus wept over Jerusalem and rebuked the Jews for not knowing the day of their visitation. Because the Jews were undiscerning, they had eyes but could not see; ears, but did not hear; hearts, but did not understand; they failed to recognize and accept the Messiah when he visited. The consequence of their lack of discernment was eventually destruction. Of Jerusalem. We can be quick to criticize the Jews for their indifference to the Lord Jesus. But can it be true that our generation also make the same mistakes of failing to discern the day of our visitation? If you'll study various visitations throughout the Bible, you'll find they're marked by certain characteristics. One of the most outstanding is that they always bring an overwhelming consciousness of God. In visitation, God reveals His attributes - such as His greatness or His holiness - so powerfully that people are filled with a sense of awe and reverence that causes them to be almost oblivious to everyone and everything else. God has been visiting His people this year. And He has been doing it with such overwhelming power and glory that people will never be the same again. Obviously, He will continue to visit His people. Hear how the power of your want is crucial to your success in life. How do we learn and absorb new information? Which learning strategies actually work and which are mere myths? Older learners shouldn’t feel that they’re at a definitive disadvantage, because they’re not. Older learners really want to try to leverage their prior knowledge and use that as a basis to structure and frame and understand new information coming in. In some sense, more mature learners, older learners, have an advantage because they have more knowledge. And part of learning involves relating new information that’s coming into your prior knowledge, relating it to your knowledge structures, and relating it to your schemas for how you think about certain kinds of content. And so older adults have the advantage of having this richer knowledge base with which they can try to integrate new material. So older learners shouldn’t feel that they’re at a definitive disadvantage, because they’re not. Older learners really want to try to leverage their prior knowledge and use that as a basis to structure and frame and understand new information coming in. Our challenge as older learners is that we do have these habits of learning that are not very effective. We turn to these habits. And if these aren’t such effective habits, we may be attributing our failures to learn to age or a lack of native ability. And in fact, that’s not it at all. Over 400 years before the Levitical priesthood was established, Abraham paid tithes to Melchizedek, priest of the Most High God. Paul shows that Abraham's descendants paid tithes through Abraham to Melchizedek. "Even Levi, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham, so to speak" (verse 9). But the Levitical priesthood passed away with the founding of God's church. Jesus Christ is now our High Priest, and because a change in the priesthood requires a change in the law (verse 12), we are to pay tithes to Him, as Abraham did when He appeared as Melchizedek. Psalm 110, in referring to a future messiah of the Davidic line, alludes to the priest-king Melchizedek as a prototype of this messiah. This allusion led the author of the Letter to the Hebrews in the New Testament to translate the name Melchizedek as “king of righteousness” and Salem as “peace” so that Melchizedek is made to foreshadow Christ, stated to be the true king of righteousness and peace (Hebrews 7:2). According to the analogy, just as Abraham, the ancestor of the Levites, paid a tithe to Melchizedek and was, therefore, his inferior, so the Melchizedek-like priesthood of Christ is superior to that of the Levites. The book of Hebrews explains that Jesus Christ is the perfect priest and the perfect sacrifice. Chapter 10 concludes the center section of the book by discussing the perfect results of Jesus’ priestly work. It is important to understand "the law" refers to God's rules, His standards. Generally "the law" is a reference to the Mosaic law, starting with the Ten Commandments and including civil, ceremonial, and moral laws. God gave the Mosaic law to the people of Israel to set them apart from the nations around them, to define righteousness, and to define sin (Ezra 10:11; Romans 5:13; 7:7). There is no way, just no way, that any person could keep the law perfectly (Romans 3:10–20). Know this first is the conclusion of this section of teaching on the Priesthood of Christ. The author of the Epistle to the Hebrews claims that Jesus is a priest. This is a unique and original claim since no other New Testament document calls him a priest, and none of Jesus' contemporaries apparently thought of him in this manner. Priests belong to an order of priesthood and are associated with a sanctuary. The author of this epistle appeals to the Aaronic priesthood as the very highest expression of professional priesthood that he knows. If any priesthood could have been expected to fulfill successfully the functions of priesthood, this priesthood should have been expected to do so in his judgment, for it was instituted by God himself. The theme of Hebrews is the absolute supremacy and sufficiency of Jesus Christ as revealer and as mediator of God's grace. The prologue (1:1-4) presents Christ as God's full and final revelation, far surpassing the revelation given in the OT. The prophecies and promises of the OT are fulfilled in the "new covenant" (or "new testament"), of which Christ is the mediator. From the OT itself, Christ is shown to be superior to the ancient prophets, to angels, to Moses (the mediator of the former covenant) and to Aaron and the priestly succession descended from him. Hebrews could be called "the book of better things" since the two Greek words for "better" and "superior" occur 15 times in the letter. What is Spiritual Malnourishment (SM) It’s a spiritual ailment that plagues many people in our time. And the diagnosis is quite simple. Just answer these questions. If you answer “no” to at least half of them, you may be suffering from SM and there’s only one treatment: communion with God through speech. 1. Do you regularly hear the voice of God? 2. Do you regularly speak with God? 3. Do you commonly search for answers to prayer? 4. Do you often pause to worship? What the Questions Reveal These four little questions reveal a lot about your spiritual health. The first question isn’t some search for a mystical union with the divine; it’s a matter of opening a book. Dust off the cover of that old Bible on your bookshelf (or buried somewhere in your nightstand), crack open the binding and start reading. The words you’re reading are the words of God. The voice you hear is the voice of God. Regularly hearing the voice of God is a matter of regularly reading Scripture. In the divine-human dialogue, that’s God’s piece. The other piece of the dialogue is what the second question addresses. God speaks to you in Scripture. Do you speak back? That’s prayer. Prayer is nothing more than your speech to God. Vibrate your vocal cords. Open the rusty box that encloses your heart, and pour yourself out before God. He’s listening. Always. And he wants to hear from you. But part of having a dialogue with God means that you search for implications of the dialogue. In other words, you search for ways in which God might be answering your prayers.
