DIY K&N Cold Air Intake Install on 2006 Jeep Commander 4.7L
We finally got the K&N Intake installed on Otis and boy we were challenged with that install. Overall, the performance has improved drastically and it sounds really good when getting on the interstate. We can't wait to do a thorough review in the coming months for this product.
If you'd like to learn more about this performance update, head over to K&N and see if there is one for your vehicle. k&nfilters.com is the link.

Frozen in Douglas so we went to Bisbee and Tombstone
It started out as an awesome trip but things turned cold! Real cold! Too cold! Our first night camping on this trip led us to a great marshy area called White Water Draw Recreation Area. A beautiful sunset and an amazing full moonrise was on full display in typical Arizona fashion. We ate and settled in for the night then......... Well you'll just have to watch.

If you're cringed out by exhilarating drives on a one lane dirt path next to a cliff, this video may not be for you. This adrenaline pumping trail took us to lofty heights behind Superstition mountain just east of Phoenix. McDowell Gateway Nature Hike | Hiking in the desert
New years day 2021 we decided to go out and see some nature since we were kind of getting cabin fever. We were sure glad we did. We learned a bunch about the area historically. The desert hasn't always been the desert but then again, we'd be naive if we thought that.
If you're interested in finding out more about Gateway Park at McDowell Regional Park, go here. https://www.mcdowellsonoran.org/trailhead-main/gateway
We are still blown away by the amount of people out daily to do hiking or biking, mountain biking, camping, UTVing, boating, etc... People in Arizona certainly take advantage of the beautiful weather during fall winter and early spring. I suppose it will get hot and the lakes will fill up more soon. Too soon!

Our DIY Accessory Bar | Jeep Commander Outfitting
I get tired of asking companies if they make stuff to fit a Jeep Commander because they always say no. This week, I took it upon my self with my limited knowledge to create some sort of dashboard mount for my iPad and our phones. I'm sure I could mount a GoPro too with a handlebar mount.
Hope you enjoy this how to video and it sparks your ingenuity to create for your limited aftermarket vehicle.

Mineral Mountain Trail Ride
It was a beautiful day to step out on the trail for a ride down Mineral Mountain. We picked up our friend Kristie and headed out HWY 60 going towards Miami/Globe area. Just after we passed Florence Junction and Hwy 79, we pulled off the south side of the road onto Mineral Mountain Road and proceeded to enjoy the winter desert.
We didn't see any Javelinas so that was a little letdown but there were an abundance of ground squirrels and jack rabbits. It has been said there are other predators out there like Coyotes and Peregrine Falcons and an occasional eagle but we didn't see any of those.
We traveled for a bit on Mineral Mountain road and turned too early onto Cotton Wood Canyon Petroglyph trail instead of traveling an additional half mile or so to Cotton Wood Canyon Trail. We were a little disappointed but did however, see some petroglyphs that weren't part of any state or national park. Just out there on grant land or Arizona trust land. (Public Lands).
Overall it was a great day to be out trail riding. Temps didn't get very high and maintained in the 60s and low 70s. It was bright and sunny too. We look forward to returning so we can finally finish our destination down Cotton Wood Canyon trail to Hwy 79. Stay tuned to see where we go next.

Could this be our new Base Camp?
Recently, we stopped by a local RV dealer to look at off road trailers small enough to get outback and able to be pulled by Otis easily. We ended up at Toms Camperland in Mesa and later went over to their Avondale location to look at a particular camper.
When we were in the Mesa location, we saw a Black Series for the first time and learned that they had a series of tent campers ranging from very small to very large. Armed with this information we set out to see one set up. After calling around a day or two, we heard back from the Avondale location that they had a display of the very camper we wanted to consider.
Follow along as we explore this beast of a tent camper. If you have interest in this brand, please visit https://www.blackseriescamper.com/.

Restoring the Hazy Headlights on "Otis the XK"
We paid almost $200 to have hazy headlights restored on our Murano but not this time. This is quite an easy process that took us less than an hour and a half to complete from start to finish. An easy process that just takes a little elbow grease and a small amount of patience to conquer those dim lenses on older headlights. Watch as we remove the "cataracts" from our Jeep Commander XK, Otis's eyes.
Please consider helping us on our journey. Just a simple like, subscribe and share can do wonders for us.

Beautiful Camping on the Mogollon Rim
Part one of our Labor Day weekend adventure took us to the Mogollon Rim near Happy Jack Arizona. Not quite the terrain you would expect for Arizona but very welcome none-the-less. We were neck deep in the Coconino Forest on FSR300 or "Rim Drive". This road follows the rim cliffs with an occasional weave in and out of the forest. Temperatures were 20-30 degrees cooler there than in the valley.
The Mogollon Rim is a topographical and geological feature cutting across the northern half of the U.S. state of Arizona. It extends approximately 200 miles (320 km), starting in northern Yavapai County and running eastward, ending near the border with New Mexico. It forms the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau in Arizona.

Wild Burros at Lake Pleasant
After our Adventure earning Otis's first Badge of Honor last week, we stopped by Lake Pleasant Regional Park in Maricopa County just outside Phoenix. Lake Pleasant is a beautiful lake with a somewhat rocky but abundant shoreline that you can drive right up to. In addition, there are several miles of hiking trails that go as far as Table Mesa area and a well appointed campground. There is also a discovery center that Shows many exhibits about the area.
Lake Pleasant has a Bald Eagle program that allows a nursery in the park for the Bald Eagles to breed and rear their young there. There is also a Bald Eagle cam available to watch on the parks website. (Link below).
There is lots of history at Lake Pleasant and is part of the Agua Fria basin and has been inhabited by many native peoples including Yavapai and Apache Nations and was first inhabited around 700AD.

Table Mesa Jeep Badge of Honor Trail
We snuck out Sunday morning to head to Table Mesa so we could start Otis on his Badge of Honor quest. This will be his first. The trail wasn't much more than a moderately trafficked road going into the back side of Lake Pleasant Regional Park but there were plenty of side trails just waiting to be ridden.
Otis earned his badge and then we set off to find something a little more suitable for a V8 powered 4X4. We found several off shoot trails that were considerably narrow and may have been more suitable for a side by side UTV but Otis doesn't give up so easily .... until we got to a ravine with an almost sheer drop off.

McDowell Regional Park in Fountain Hills, AZ
I went on a short ride to the north side of Phoenix Metro area in Fountain Hills to a great park that has a lot of amenities. McDowell Regional Park has miles of competition level mountain bike trails, hundreds of hiking trails, Open Group Camping areas for equestrian use as well as general use, Boy Scout areas and a great campground. Cost is $7.00 per vehicle to enter the park but if you have a use for the above, it is a bargain. When I was there, I saw many variety of fowl like dove, partridge, roadrunners and such, signs of deer and several rabbits.
