Fishing With The EMPEROR QUEEN in Our Pilbara Backyard
We'd decided to commit an entire weekend to fishing, and much to your and my delight, we brought the cameras along to film how it all unfolded.
Launching the boat slightly West of Karratha, in Dampier, WA. Day one saw us trying something new along the lines of fishing for Blue-Bone (Black-spot Tusk-fish) with a local freshwater crustacean called Red-claw. I've heard it can work, but not for us on this particular day!
Spirits remained high even with the unsuccessful bag on day one, as we'd made an early commitment to back it up the following day if need be, and fishing two days in a row doesn't take much convincing around these parts!
Day two saw us venture East of Karratha to a small coastal town known as Point Samson. Although only a stones throw away, neither of us had yet fished directly out of the towns waters.
We headed out to some islands that make up part of the Dampier Archipelago, and searched some new ground with a simple goal in mind; have fun, and make up for the lack of fish from the day prior.
Everything worked out great, we caught fish, we had a blast, and most importantly, we made it home safely.

She Caught This FIRST DROP and The Day Just Kept On Giving
The morning fishing was red hot with the change of the low tide, and as the sun came up with the tide together in unison, the bite would seemingly shut down, with notable hookups being few and far between.
As expected with fishing in the warm Pilbara waters, the sharks soon became a nuisance with unfortunate and unavoidable bite-offs occurring. Promptly moving locations at each first opportunity, we were able to pick off a few more fish without gifting too many to the tax man.
Neil is an absolute legend and a gentleman. He and I had crossed paths many times at the coffee shop before, but it was nice to finally wet a line on board the infamous Fanta-Sea Bar-Crusher that wreaks havoc on the northwest waterways. Be sure to check out his YouTube channel!

Grey Nomads Come Here to Relax But We Came Here To FISH
Since beginning my spearfishing journey at the start of 2022, this was only my second time in the year with a fishing rod in my hand, and aiming to NOT jump into the water.
I'd been promising Eden that we'd have a dedicated fishing day since the day we met, so this day was to be just that. Much to her credit, she is a better fisherman than I!
We find many great fish throughout the morning, targeting mostly pelagic fish such as Giant Trevally, Spanish Mackerel, and Cobia. Much to our delight, a few nice demersal species such as Rankin Cod, Red Emperor, and Black Spot Cod find their way onto the deck too!
The story tells itself throughout the video, so we hope you enjoy it, and I look forward to sharing more adventures throughout 2023.

Mudcrabs In The Morning Hunting The Flats At First Light
where Eden takes her first dive for a Coral Trout via speargun, it was now time to get back into our next favorite thing!
Hooking Mud-Crabs with 6mm steel round bars along the flats of the Pilbara, only a short distance away from home in Karratha.
With a low tide of 0.4m forecast for 6 am, and 1.3m for 6 pm, we made the call to try our luck walking the flats at first light instead of at the usual sunset hours, which typically delivers well!
The alarm clock was set for 4 am, and we hobbled out of bed about half an hour thereafter, we then journeyed via 4x4 to reach our destination right on queue, and with what was captured on video, the rest can speak for itself!

Livin' La Vida LOCAL Overnight Pilbara Island Adventure
After only a short 15-minute drive from the Karratha town center, and with a belly full of Hungry Jacks, we launch the 420 Dory, equipped with only the bare minimums to survive a night on the islands, and enough camera gear to shoot a low-budget film 📽
Half of my motivation to move to the North-West was to fulfill my desire to become a spearfisherman. I've since grown to love it like no other hobby before, and now it was my turn to share that love and experience with someone else 💭
Racing against the clock, the filming was kept to a minimum whilst we focused on priority #1, to get Eden onto her first ever Coral Trout by way of speargun 🐟 In which we find great success, with her securing a perfectly sized fish for dinner to be baked whole on the Weber Q, with no fillet damage whatsoever 🥳
From that point on, I took a few solo dives of my own to see what I could conjure up, and after bringing a few nice fish on board, things got spicy as I cracked a new personal best fish, right on sunset 🌞
The wind and weather forecast for the weekend wasn't anything to write home about, but neap tides falling on the weekend was too good of an occasion to resist, as calmly anchoring the boat right in front of camp with water beneath it and full peace of mind is worth its weight in fish fillets ⚖️
...
I've had a very busy year moving from Perth to the Pilbara, I instantly fell in love and have since bought a house here, and so brings the renovations and so forth. On top of the house shopping, I've also ordered myself a dream boat, albeit modest, which will hopefully make its first appearance into the new year 💥
I'm hoping to free up some more spare time again soon and bring back some more consistent and higher-quality content, but until then, thanks for watching

Pilbara Winters! Solo Spearfishing And Whale Encounters 🐋
I journey out to some familiar ground to jump into the water, where I'll begin my hunt for a fresh catch of fish, armed with my speargun and camera, a solo underwater adventure awaits!
Once back on the surface and happy with the few fish I claimed for the purpose of this video, and of course; my dinner! I throw an old faithful lure out behind the boat and begin a small top water session as I make waves towards the islands.
In what had been months since taking a fishing rod out with me, I'd forgotten just how fun and exhilarating it really can be to here that line go tight, and see the rod bend! After a quick hookup, and a fight that ended with a similar feeling to reeling in a wet sock; I had another fish on board, and one I was awfully STOKED with!
With a day that had been so enjoyable and gone by so seamlessly, the only way to wrap things up, was quite literally, with some fresh fish wraps, cooked on the beach, with an ever simple catch and cook, before I journeyed on home with nothing but a smile on my face.
Winter's in the Pilbara are like nowhere else.
With the whale migration in full swing, accompanied by blue skies, the fish are plenty, and the spirits are high, it's easy to understand why I've decided to put roots down here and give myself somewhere to call home.

Diving The Dampier Archipelago SOLO!
My life since moving to the Pilbara has been nothing but spectacular, and I think I've finally found a place that I feel at 'home', but there's just one big problem.. None of my close friends here share the same passion for fishing and now more particularly, spearfishing, as I do!
I've been taking a bit of a break from YouTube and the pressure of being both in front of, and behind a camera, and I thought I'd let you know why with this video. I'm the happiest I've been in years, in a place I feel comfortable, and every day that I wake up feels good, so I have just been wanting to enjoy that for a little longer before I get stuck back into things again.
As I explain and show in the video, I've recently taken up spearfishing as a hobby, and well, my problem is that when I find something I love, it really begins to consume me; but who will complain of a constant diet of 5 star fish, right?
But what I really need now, is to find a hand full of people who live near to myself, that share those same interests and want to share these experiences with me. I'm not the best free-diver or spearo, but I LOVE it, and I'm going to keep at it until I'm pretty darn good. The number one rule across the board when it comes to diving seems to be to, never do it alone.
Except, when you've got no one to do it with, do you choose sitting on the couch at home instead? I don't!

The Montebello Islands Meets Millstream-Chichester!
My journey starts from the Montebello Islands with their rich and controversial history, as one of the most beautiful and picturesque archipelagos in Australian waters, but that of a historic NUCLEAR bomb test site; and ends with a fascinating ending in a deceivingly and equally beautiful oasis, located amid a barren land, not too far from the ever popular, Millstream-Chichester, and Karijini, national parks.
Since relocating to Karratha, and Dampier alike, I've grown an obsession with spearfishing, and simply, being underwater. Being able to visit places such as the Dampier Archipelago and the Montebello Islands on almost any given weekend to fuel that obsession, has been the best thing that has happened to me in any place I have ever been able to call "home".
Pair that with my lifelong fondness of camping, tranquility, and remote adventures away from the crowds, having the rivers and creeks of Millstream, Karijini, and Fortescue, only a short distance away in the opposite directions, and I would have to say I'm feeling pretty lucky!
I hope you all can enjoy the stories I tell, albeit different, and get a feeling of the moments I get to experience in my wonderful life. I'm slowly but surely making my way back to getting busier on YouTube again, I've just got a few more goals to kick in my personal life first, but I'm on the right path!

SPEARFISHING For My First Time In Australia's North West!
This day had been long awaited for me, and it was everything that I'd always dreamed of. Some people will say "big whoop, you're making a big deal out of nothing, just get in and shoot a fish" but that's not how I operate and there's reasons why.
I'm a big believer in first times making or breaking someones experiences and outlook on something. It often comes back to when I hear people say that they don't like eating fish, and I simply ask, "well, what type of fish have you had?" and they never know, because someone fed them sardines once and that was enough to turn them off and to never try again.
I bring that same thought process forward to my interests, and in this instance, spearfishing. I didn't want to half-ass my first time in the water, I bought the right equipment, I studied and observed, I made sure it was something I really wanted to do, and I went with someone that I can comfortably trust my life with, should things turn sour.
So about our day and how it unfolded!
Things got off to a bumpy start, as daylight revealed itself during the early morning commute to launch the boat, we faced overcast skies and rainfall. Without letting that phase us, we eventually dropped the boat into the water, only to find out both batteries were flat and the boat wouldn't start, so out it came back onto land.
Fortunately, I have a spare battery and box in my 4wd that we were able to piggyback onto the boat batteries and run with jumper cables for the entire morning, not ideal, but it worked!
Once we had arrived at our first mark, we had a quick look around in about 5 meters of water, with not much to show, so we moved on to the next one.
Queue the part of the episode where I slide off the boat and into the water, only to be caught hanging by my brand new $400+ dive suit on my SECOND entry, ouch! I didn't let it get me down, and so now in about 8-9 meters of water, it was time for me to spear a fish.
Cavan was doing most of the hard work scouting ledges and finding fish for both of us, I just had to focus on getting down and spearing one correctly.
On my first dive, I was unfortunately a little hesitant on the first Coral Trout and hit it towards the tail end of the body, where it somehow came off the spear once it went under a nearby ledge.
My next dive had me onto a better trout, where I secured a better shot, only this time my spear became lodged under the reef with the fish, so I had to swim up to the surface without it. This was an option all along for safety, as Cavan said it's easier for him to go down and get it than to risk me staying underwater for too long trying to pull it out, but yes for anyone curious, I will be looking into float-lines and reels, moving forward.
In the Pilbara of Western Australia, we are only allowed to catch one Coral Trout per licensed fisher, per day. So it was onto the next best thing for me, and an equally tasty fish; Black Spot Tusk Fish, more commonly called Blue-bone. Down I went again and I managed to pull it off with beginner's luck, securing a few more prized fish for the bag.
In all, the day turned out perfectly, we caught our fish, and we made it home safely, that's all I could ask for. Filming for YouTube was not the priority on this day, as stressing too much about filming can be dangerous and distracting in situations like these. In the future, as I progress, so too shall my spearfishing content, but for now, here's the first taste of what's to come!

Catching GIANT MUD CRABS For My First Time In The Pilbara!
As I rolled on into the remote location I planned on filming in, I was greeted by an unsuspecting family who were surprisingly viewers of this very channel! They politely asked for a photo on their phone, but I insisted that we can go one better!
I soon set up my camera and tripod for some group photos, and with their permission I asked if they would like to make a feature in this very episode, so they could soon watch themselves on the TV alongside myself. Next thing I knew, I was over at their location, completely distracted from my own plans, and filming the afternoon away as we all got to enjoy the fishing and crabbing along the creek banks together. It was a blast and I was very grateful for the opportunity.
Once the family had left, it was now just me, and my two Dobermans, Guthix, and Elmira.
Up they went into their dog crate on the back of the ute, and down I went into the water.
My plan all along was to specifically target Mud Crabs in their hidey holes along the creek beds and mangroves, once the tide had gone out.
Now with my floating fish bag, hand spear, and crab hook at hand, I set off waltzing through the current of an outgoing tide, into the afternoon sun, on the hunt for my VERY FIRST MUD CRAB!
What happens after that can only be seen, felt, and experienced, through the video.
No words can truly justify the excitement and exhilaration of finding and grabbing that first crab.
A moment I have dreamed of for so long, and one that I will never ever forget.
It was truly up there as one of the best moments in my life and YouTube journey, and I am so happy to have filmed the moment for my memories, and to share with you.
Thank you for watching

Karratha Is Calling! My NEW HOME And The Dampier Archipelago!
G'day ladies and gents, in this episode I punch out of Dampier, in Australia's North-West, and FINALLY have my chance to explore the waters around my new home of Karratha.
Equipped with nothing but my camera gear, some fishing tackle, and the mighty 420 Dory, I get stuck right into it, and start learning about this place, because as it stands, I know absolutely NOTHING, but through trial and error as these episodes continue, I will dial it in perfectly.
I have plenty to talk about, to explain, and to share, so rather than me babble on in this little section here, enjoy the video, soak it all in, and if you've got any knowledge or advice to share with myself for my new journey in the Pilbara, feel free to let me have it, as the more the merrier.

Pilbara River Camping And The Redclaw Pizza From HELL!
It was a scorching hot day, and I was finding it difficult to get motivated to get my camera gear out whatsoever, but then I did!
What soon entailed would turn out to be one of the best, funniest, most hectic, and memorable nights of my life solo camping!
There was twists and turns coming around every corner, but I stayed positive, I was extremely happy and filming this episode really did just feel good!
From the big news about my departure, the catch and cook of the Redclaws, the cook-ups that went sublime, the cook-ups that didn't go so well, to just the sheer intensity of nature being around me in the middle of the night, this was an awesome experience and I loved every minute of it!
Thank you for finding interest and enjoyment in my simple life, at one with nature, my two beautiful Doberman dogs, and my trusty Isuzu D-MAX 4x4, through it all I find love and happiness, and through these videos, I share it all with you

GREY NOMADS To The RESCUE! It Turns Out We Both Needed Help!
After nothing but happiness and good times for the few days previous at Herald Bight, it was now time for me to break away from the comfort of the place I love so much, and head on to the next location of Bottle Bay!
Upon waking up early in the morning, I was greeted by heavy rains and grey clouds, with my optimism for a productive day seeming scarce.. but that didn't last long!
The weather cleared and that was it, my decision was made, and it was now time for me to get my boat out of the water once again, chuck her on the trailer, and be on my merry way! Pretty straightforward, right?
Well, that was until I got a little bogged on my way out.
In perfect timing, as my wheels bogged down, out of the bushes appears a nice big Mercedes Sprinter 4x4 van, with a cheery grey nomad at the helm!
He insisted that he pull me through, rather than me fiddle around trying to get myself out, so I accepted his offer, and what followed was a truly enjoyable encounter!
As with all great things, they happen when you least expect it, so I'll leave it there for now, and let the footage reveal the rest of how this day unfolded!
Thanks for watching, and I'll see you in the next episode where I rip into some INSANE solo fishing and have the best day on the water that I've ever had!

Oyster Foraging Through The Mangroves In Shark Bay!
One of them was, that I now had MORE than enough fish on me to last me a few meals throughout the week, which meant I had no need, and little desire to go and chase some more fish without good reason.
The second thing I realized, is that because of the reason above, I now had to perfect excuse and motivation to go and try something completely different, that I hadn't dine before!
So up I got, and eased into the day, cooking myself a nice big breaky, donning on the waders, and preparing myself to go and explore some more!
I headed over to some nearby mangroves in my 420 Dory, jumped out, and.. I'll let the video explain the rest!

I Spent A Week Alone In Shark Bay And Here's How It Started!
In this episode, I introduce the series, head into camp in fine fashion, and spear my way into the night, literally! It was a big day of travel and feel good moments, but a good way to warm up to what is yet to come!
All episodes are equally important to build a true feeling, understanding, and appreciation for the many amazing moments that will soon follow!
I hope you all enjoy this one, learn a thing or two, and get excited to see what's next!
We Escaped To Go Fishing!
Coming into the ANZAC day long weekend here in Australia, I had plans to simply take it easy at home, and launch my boat once or twice at my local ramp, as we had an AMAZING forecast on our hands for the extended weekend, that the entire state of Western Australia was looking forward to.
Lo and behold, at midday Friday, the whispers from fellow workmates start to travel around the work sites and sure enough, we have an emergency press conference on our hands, due to start at 2:30 pm, which could only mean one thing..
After a long and exhausting week, and have been looking forward to getting back onto the water since the beginning of the 7-day forecast, there was no way I wanted to hear the words that I knew were coming.
I, like many others, flocked to our TVs and phones at our workplace to hear the news with our own ears, and just as expected, a 3-day lockdown was announced for the Perth and Peel region only, which shattered many peoples plans and put a real burner into the spirits of West Australians, statewide, as people from the city were unable to go and holiday and the regional towns would lose out from the sudden halt in tourism.
BUT! There was one catch. If you left the region by midnight, before any police checkpoints could be established, as it was announced, you were free to go.
I looked to my workmates and said I'd love to stay and chat, but I've got things to do.. and so became this episode as she was!
Mentally exhausted, I was desperately looking forward to enjoying the weekend that I had in mind, so there was no chance that I was missing this forecast, if there was a way around it. I did what I could to enjoy it, and made the most of the circumstance, and just maybe, it was simply a blessing in disguise!
Thanks heap for watching, I hope you've all enjoyed it.

Solo Prawning And Camping In Western Australia!
Solo Prawning And Camping In Western Australia!
In this episode, I tackle my first night of solo camping on what will be a whirlwind of ups and downs for the week to follow!
I head south to Western Australia's, Great Southern, to see if I can catch myself some prawns on a solo adventure, for the first time in 5 years!
I jumped onto google maps in the weeks prior, scoped out some areas that I thought looked good for the task, and on the back of some heavy rains in the week before, everything I had planned, came together perfectly! Well, that is, for day one at least!
If you've never tried prawning before, I highly suggest giving it a crack, as it's a very fun and family-friendly form of fishing. Of course, to top it off, prawns are DELICIOUS too and any extras can also be used as 5-star fishing bait!
With nothing but my loaded-up Isuzu D-max, myself, and my two beautiful Dobermans, Guthix and Elmira, this is part one, of a four-day adventure that takes some very wild, and unexpected twists and turns!
I hope you've enjoyed this episode! Be sure to keep an eye out to see what follows next. You know how!
