HOW RESTAURANTS AND CAFES CAN GREEN THEIR MENUS
#LIVE
Join Better Food Foundation's Outreach Manager Kenzie Bushman on a special episode of Naijha Speaks with Naijha Wright-Brown of Black Veg Society and Maryland Vegan Eats as they dive into how restaurants and cafes can green their menus for Maryland Vegan Restaurant Month (and all year long). Kenzie will share simple, inclusive, and cost-effective strategies from BFF's initiative, DefaultVeg, the idea of making plant-based foods the default on menus (with the choice to opt into meat or dairy).
This powerful behavioral nudge, which has been used in dozens of institutions from NYC's public hospitals to university coffee shops, helps guide customers toward sustainable plant-based foods without taking away anyone's choices.
BIO:
Kenzie Bushman is currently serving as the Outreach Manager at the Better Food Foundation since May 2023. Kenzie holds a master's degree in professional communication specializing in nonprofit leadership. With over a decade of experience in the nonprofit sector, Kenzie's expertise spans various domains, including animal rights, event planning, education, and homeless services.

A VegFest in Nigeria and Vegan Street Fair’s Next Stop!
A VegFest in Nigeria and Vegan Street Fair’s Next Stop!
#LIVE
Naijha speaks with Joseph Odika, the content creator of Vegfest Nigeria. A plant-based, climate-driven campaign to popularize plant-based lifestyle and policy in Nigeria.
Joseph’s background was in Aviation Management and Education. He is the publisher of Poloplus magazine and the author of Archives of Polo. His animal advocacy work began with a Polo Welfare column in the polo magazine after watching a horse sustain limb damage during a polo match.
From that point, he saw the need to expand and incorporate all animals in the welfare column of the magazine. This inspired him to establish a non-profit which is known today as the Animal Protection Organization of Nigeria - APON. The Organization is saddled with obligations to protect animals from suffering and proffer solutions to environmental issues caused by factory farming.
He's currently on the advisory board of the Aquatic Animal Alliance. A community ambassador for Sentient Media and Wedidit.Health. He has led several campaigns in Nigeria to liberate animals. Notably, he took a giant stride to campaign against global brands to commit to cage-free policies which had remarkable wins across the world.
AND, Jessica Cruz, CEO and founder of Vegan Street Fair, which is currently on a nine-city tour, and Vegan Exchange Events based out of Los Angeles, CA. As a vegan for almost a decade, Jessica strives to “mainstream” veganism by making it as accessible to as many populations as possible by providing free events that are child friendly, ADA compliant, low cost, and public transportation adjacent. Jessica spends her downtime exploring the outdoors with her children, taking salsa lessons, watching a good TV drama, crafting with her Cricut, spending time with her friends or playing board games with her husband.

WHY WIRELESS LOVE ART AND A VEGAN SKATE PARTY?
WHY WIRELESS LOVE ART AND A VEGAN SKATE PARTY?
#LIVE
Naijha speaks with illustrator Donald Wooten about his upcoming "Love is Wireless" art show. Born in East Orange, NJ. The 2nd of 3 boys. Middle child. Donald grew up drawing. He went from comic books to graffiti. He put down the pencil and picked up the pen when the pictures started to deserve more than 1000 words. At the same time, he taught himself how to make beats on whatever tech he could find. All of that is present in his current style. Donald is a traditional Illustrator that uses the basic fundamentals to get the most soul out of software and inject them into whatever it is that he is designing for the people. Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop are his sword and shield. Stolen Outfitters or Stout or Stoutfitters is the brand.
Mission Statement:
"My work is Hip Hop culture (not rap music) crystallized. It is an intersection of traditional illustration and graffiti, pop culture, technology and reactions to oppression…and expressions of freedom…even if that freedom is acquired in death. [ In short, I draw Black people being black regardless of what that costs them…or me…b/c I am them, as they are me and we are one. ] I also embellish apparel via screenprinting, sublimation, DTF, and embroidery."
AND, Baltimore's own Michelle Stafford, The Diva Yogi will come and speak about her upcoming "Vegan Skate Party"!

This will be an interactive workshop that allows you to create your own genogram, which is a pictorial display of family relationships.
There will be a grounding meditation to help us get rooted in the present and the Earth and reduce anxiety and help us maintain strength as we implement our strategies and call-to-action.
Featured guests are Eric Jackson from Black Yield Institute, Hemi Kim from Unity Collective and Crystal Forman from Holistic Wellness and Health.
Naijha speaks with Crystal Forman, a passionate health and wellness educator and founder of Holistic Wellness and Health where they make healthy living easy, nutritious, delicious and fun with a focus on plant-based foods and meditation to help you live a healthier, compassionate and more vibrant life. Holistic Wellness and Health offers healthy plant-based cooking classes, wellness workshops, health coaching, garden/farm consultation, and mindfulness meditation.

She volunteers as a Baltimore City Master Gardener and works as a food safety educator, helping local farms with risk assessment and food safety plans. She works with youth at a local farm to lead a holistic agriculture and plant-based cooking program. She is teaching the youth in her area how to cook culturally appropriate, plant-based meals. Her passions include advancing the technology of teaching and expanding the settings where such science is used, in service of decolonization, anti-racism, and community-building. Hemi has facilitated live, online sessions to help adult participants learn about collective liberation through anti-racist animal advocacy. The interactive, discussion-based sessions featured popular education curricula and helped participants understand contemporary thinking related to veganism.
