Bible Prayer Intercession & Spiritual Warfare
January 14th, 2022 Post

Introduction: Part 1 of 5

“Evil is no physical only. It can have supernatural forces behind it as well – that energize, command, and protect it.”

“However Born-Again Christians can use effective Biblical prayer to interdict those forces – and so give God’s spiritual backing to those who are taking physical actions against the evil.”

When I first became a Christian, the first Christian book I read was “Reese Howell, Intercessor”.
Briefly, the book was about a certain Christian in Britain whom God led to pray intercessions regarding events during World War II. Reese Howell and his small group of intercessors prayed throughout the war. And Hitler kept making incredible mistakes.
The book alerted me to the fact that prayer intercession on behalf of others can change the course of geo-political events.

For example, Reese Howell prayed during the 1940 Dunkirk evacuation when the Nazis defeated France and her British ally.
The British were forced to retreat until their backs were up against the sea at a place called Dunkirk.
Under intense enemy fire and air attacks by the Luftwaffe, the British were totally surrounded.

Hitler was on the verge of wiping them out, then unexpectedly ordered his army to halt its advance.
This gave the ships of the British Navy -- and the many civilian-run small boats (the vast majority of the vessels) the chance to cross the English Channel and miraculously evacuate the British army back to England.

An interesting and similar example of prayer intercession on behalf of others is contained in Exodus 17.

• Then Amalek came and fought with Israel at Rephidim. So Moses said to Joshua, “Choose for us men, and go out and fight Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.” So Joshua did as Moses told him, and fought with Amalek, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. Whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, and whenever he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses’ hands grew weary, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it, while Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side. So his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. And Joshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the sword. Exodus 17:8-16 ESV.

• Akin to this battle with Amalek, are the spiritual principles that Derek Prince discusses in his sermon “Until Intercessors Learn To Use Their Authority They’ll Never Be Redeemed Of Satan’s Power”.

• Another example of the effectiveness of prayer intercession is portrayed in the 2015 movie, the “War Room”. I purchased of a copy of this inspiring movie. Its plot involves an elderly woman prayer intercessor, who teaches a younger woman how to pray effectively so as to allow God to solve impossible life problems, as well as showing her how to set up her own Prayer Closet (i.e., “war room”).

Here’s a brief clip from this movie’s first 2 minutes:
{I’m not alone in finding this War Room movie inspiring. See also https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lI243_Eq3QM&list=PLxYUOIGCtaN5bd_55jxWVcVxZPDRYxNvB&index=13 – Love1Another 05/19/2019 “War Room Intro (with subtitles)” to the 2015 movie.}

So humanity’s real enemy is spiritual, hiding behind the physical.

Yet God has given His people access to His divine power, for victory against these evil spiritual entities within our physical realm.

Among the Scriptures establishing this, include:

• Ephesians 6:12-18

• 2 Corinthians 10:3-4

• Luke 10:18-20

• Matthew 17:19-20

• James 4:7 – and

• 1 Corinthians 2:9-16

It’s also encouraging to know that the Bible establishes that God Himself answers our prayers IMMEDIATELY when we pray them.
He does not delay HIS ANSWER.
However evil spirits MAY DELAY the arrival of God’s answer to us in the Earthly realm.
See for example Chapters 9 and 10 in the Book of Daniel.

• In Daniel 9:20-23, Daniel is praying and his prayer is answered by the appearance of the angel Gabriel.

Among the things he tells Daniel, interestingly, is that as soon as Daniel prayed God answered by sending Gabriel to him.

• In the following chapter, Daniel 10:12-14, and 20-21, Daniel is again praying. But this time Gabriel does not appear immediately and Daniel ends up praying for 21 days.
When Gabriel finally gets to Daniel, he reports to Daniel that God did indeed answer his prayer immediately but that an evil spiritual being named “the prince of Persia” delayed him from delivering God’s answer. This battle in the spiritual realm held Gabriel up until the archangel Michael came to help him get through.
Having delivered God’s answer to Daniel, Gabriel then says he must now rejoin Michael in the spiritual realm to continue this fight against the prince of Persia who will be joined by “the prince of Greece” (another evil spirit).

Thank God that Daniel didn’t quit, but kept on praying!

Even Jesus Himself made the point that God does not delay answering our prayers.

Notice what Jesus said in Luke, Chapter 18.

And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared god nor respected man. And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’ ” And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says. And will God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” Luke 18:1-8 ESV (underline added).

We must pray. 2 Chronicles 7:14.

If we do, we permit God and His power intervene into our physical realm with His power. Matthew 6:9-13.

While justifiable physical actions against evil are necessary– our physical actions are not enough.

For -- “Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.” Psalm 127:1 KJB.

For it is in the realm of the spirit that we must first be victorious.
By following God there, we take the tactical and strategic high ground both morally and in practicality.

God Bless you all,
