According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), in 2019, approximately 16.2% of Black adults in the United States experienced a diagnosable mental illness in the past year. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) reports that major depressive disorder affects around 13.4% of Black adults in the U.S., which is higher than the national average.
Access to Mental Health Care:
The American Psychological Association (APA) highlights disparities in mental health care access among Black individuals, with only about one-quarter of Black Americans receiving mental health care compared to 40% of white Americans.

MENTAL ILLNESS DOESN'T DISCRIMINATE. IT COMES IN ALL SIZES, RACES THE YOUNG, THE OLD, IT CAN AFFECT ANYBODY. IT DOESN'T CARE ABOUT POPULARITY OR SOCIO ECONOMIC STATUS.
