Conservative nonprofit Judicial Watch obtained via Freedom of Information Act request 487 pages of Secret Service records about the October 2018 incident — when Hunter’s brother’s widow and then-girlfriend, Hallie Biden, left his .38 handgun on in a supermarket garbage can in Wilmington, Delaware.

The Secret Service emails began in October 2020 when an agent, whose name was redacted, shared a link to a colleague to an article from The Blaze about the gun incident in an email chain with other agents.

Another official, whose name is redacted, responded: “Oh dear…”

A specialist in the agency’s Protective Intelligence and Assessment Division then wrote to their colleagues: “It’s kind of odd that we were involved in the missing gun investigation when neither Hunter or Joe were even receiving USSS protection at the time? Hmmm.”

And another replied: “Maybe we were asked for a favor?” As a former vice president, Joe Biden and his family were not receiving Secret Service protection at the time of the incident.

“The Secret Service is being cagey about what it did for Hunter and I believe Hunter when he said the FBI and Secret Service had intervened for him,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton told The Post.

“In my view this is another example of Hunter and the Bidens getting taken care of and getting protected from the consequences of bad behavior — in this case this domestic issue which led to this gun being disposed of in an unsafe manner.”

Hunter’s 2018 gun purchase is believed to be part of a years-long investigation into his personal and professional activities by the Department of Justice. The probe is being led by Delaware US attorney David Weiss, who was appointed to the post by former President Trump.

On a federal transaction record recording the gun purchase, Hunter Biden responded “no” to a question which read, “Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?” His drug and alcohol abuse during this period have been copiously documented in news reports.

Hallie Biden allegedly tossed the gun across from a local high school because she feared Hunter would kill himself, Politico reported in March 2021.

Local police began investigating after Hallie went back for the pistol and found it missing. In light of the charges, Biden's attorney Abbe Lowell said his client had paid his tax debts and is sober.

"Based on the facts and the law, if Hunter's last name was anything other than Biden, the charges in Delaware, and now California, would not have been brought," Lowell said, the Los Angeles Times reported. "Now, after five years of investigating with no new evidence—and two years after Hunter paid his taxes in full—the U.S. attorney has piled on nine new charges when he had agreed just months ago to resolve this matter with a pair of misdemeanors."

Lowell was referring to a failed plea deal earlier this year in which Biden was due to agree to firearm and tax violations. It fell through and a new indictment in Delaware under U.S. Attorney David Weiss was filed in which Biden is accused of lying about his drug use in 2018 while purchasing a gun. Anyone purporting to sell sex could be an undercover police officer. All you have to do is reach a verbal agreement to become subject to criminal liability. Whether the agreement is made in person over the phone or on a messaging platform is irrelevant.

You Do Not Need to Meet in Person to Be Charged With Solicitation
The internet has changed the way most businesses operate. And the sex industry is no exception. Where prostitutes and potential clients used to find each other in the streets, they now tend to organize their meetings through computers or smartphones. Websites such as Backpage and Craigslist became popular online platforms for sex workers to offer their services. But law enforcement quickly caught on.

Now, the police often pose as sex workers on online ads to make arrests and file solicitation charges. This law enforcement strategy works because you don’t need to have sex or even meet a prostitute in person to get charged with a crime. The applicable statutes are:

Solicitation (RCW 9A.88.110)–The law considers that you have patronized a prostitute any time you pay a fee for sexual activity pursuant to a prior understanding, if you do the same through a third party, or if you offer or agree to pay for sexual activity.
Prostitution (RCW 9A.88.030)–Similarly, a person is guilty of prostitution if they actually engage in, or simply agree or offer to engage in sexual activity in exchange for a fee.
These laws are written specifically so that law enforcement can make the arrest prior to any sexual contact occurs. Even more, it is clear that for both solicitation and prostitution statutes, there is no requirement to meet in person. This allows a prosecutor to use evidence that you reached an agreement by phone or message when charging you with solicitation. Nowhere do the statutes state that you must meet up with the alleged prostitute.

That being said, solicitation arrests usually occur when the suspect attempts to meet with the law enforcement officer posing as a prostitute. The reason is simple: it’s easier for the police to wait for you to come to them. Otherwise, they would have to track you down through your phone number, messenger ID, or email address, then obtain a warrant for your arrest, and then actually come to your house to apprehend you. It’s unlikely for the police to take these steps unless you attempt to meet with an underage prostitute.

Emboldening that offensive is a recent report from Republican senators on the Senate Finance and Homeland Security committees. The 87-page document titled “Hunter Biden, Burisma, and Corruption: The Impact on U.S. Government Policy and Related Concerns” is being used as evidence in a number of online claims. It also provided the backdrop for a controversial Oct. 14 New York Post story that seems to draw the former vice president even closer to the fray.

But there’s a lot we don’t know.

We wanted to take a closer look at the report and some of the claims it has generated.

Background on Hunter Biden and Burisma
Hunter Biden, a lawyer and former lobbyist, held a directorship with the Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings starting in 2014, when his father was vice president, as we’ve previously reported. A statement on the company’s website at the time said Hunter Biden would help the company with “transparency, corporate governance and responsibility, international expansion,” and other issues, according to Reuters. Burisma also retained the law firm where Biden had been working, Boies Schiller Flexner.

Biden’s position with Burisma drew attention because the company was owned by Mykola Zlochevsky, who had been a minister under President Viktor Yanukovych, who was considered a pro-Russia force. Yanukovych fled to Russia in 2014 after being ousted during a popular revolution and was later convicted of treason for inviting Russia to invade Ukraine. After Yanukovych’s fall from power, Zlochevsky faced a variety of corruption-related investigations involving his business.

In May 2019, Ukrainian prosecutor Yuriy Lutsenko told Bloomberg that “Hunter Biden did not violate any Ukrainian laws — at least as of now, we do not see any wrongdoing.”

A report from Senate Republicans
On Sept. 23, 2020, Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., and Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, released the report titled “Hunter Biden, Burisma, and Corruption: The Impact on U.S. Government Policy and Related Concerns.” Johnson is chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and Grassley is chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.

The report makes the case that Biden’s position with Burisma was problematic and interfered in “the efficient execution of policy with respect to Ukraine.” The upshot: Hunter Biden and other members of the Biden family “cashed in on Joe Biden’s vice presidency.”

However, the report also says that “the extent to which Hunter Biden’s role on Burisma’s board affected U.S. policy toward Ukraine is not clear.” The report characterizes at length what it calls the “awkwardness” created by Hunter Biden’s connection to Burisma and its potential for conflict of interest for the vice president. However, the report is also peppered with allegations that rely on what it says are undisclosed, confidential documents.

Summarizing the report’s findings, The New York Times wrote that the report did not present evidence of improper influence or wrongdoing by Joe Biden. Politico described the report as “largely a compilation of previously public information … as well as news articles and strongly worded insinuations with little evidence to back them up.”

“The report leans heavily on 100 citations from 14 ‘confidential documents in lengthy passages detailing Hunter Biden’s financial connections to foreign nationals,” Politico said. “The documents are actually Suspicious Activity Reports kept by the Treasury Department, in which financial institutions flag transactions but don’t verify whether any wrongdoing has occurred.”

Democrats have accused Johnson and Grassley of spreading Russian disinformation and using the investigation, which started in 2019, to counter the House’s impeachment of Trump.

The Republican senators, meanwhile, have said it was a legitimate probe into potential conflicts of interest connected to Hunter Biden’s position on Burisma’s board.

The claim: Hunter Biden got $3.5 million from the wife of a Moscow ex-mayor
During a press conference on Sept. 27, Trump said that Hunter Biden got $3.5 million “from the wife of the mayor of Moscow,” a claim that stemmed from the Senate report. The report said Hunter Biden and his business partner Devon Archer had a financial relationship with Elena Baturina, the widow of a man who had been mayor of Moscow until 2010.

“Feb. 14, 2014, Baturina wired $3.5 million to a Rosemont Seneca Thornton bank account for a ‘Consultancy Agreement,’” the report says. “Rosemont Seneca Thornton is an investment firm co-founded by Hunter Biden.”

The report also said that Rosemont Seneca Thorton served as a pass-through for Baturina’s investments in a Chinese-based tech start-up in Buffalo, N.Y.

The claim relies on undisclosed documents, and the report adds no more details about the significance of any of these transactions, although it notes that Baturina appeared to have benefited from her husband’s allegedly corrupt practices.

Hunter Biden’s lawyer George Mesires said Biden did not get $3.5 million.

“Hunter Biden had no interest in and was not a co-founder of Rosemont Seneca Thornton, so the claim that he was paid $3.5 million is false,” Mesires said in an email. He did not respond to a request for documents showing that Hunter Biden was not a co-founder. Republican Senate staffers similarly did not respond to requests for proof that Biden had a stake in Rosemont Seneca Thornton.

The claim: Hunter Biden has been linked to a sex trafficking ring
Among the Senate report’s key findings is the suggestion that Hunter Biden paid women involved in a prostitution or human trafficking ring.

“Hunter Biden paid nonresident women who were nationals of Russia or other Eastern European countries and who appear to be linked to an ‘Eastern European prostitution or human trafficking ring,’” the report says.

A Facebook post took that information one step further and alleged that “Hunter Biden has allegedly been linked to the sex trafficking ring.”

This post was among several similar ones flagged as part of Facebook’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Facebook.)

Like the previous claim about Hunter Biden collecting $3.5 million from the wife of a former Russian mayor, this one is underpinned by undisclosed documents, and the authors of the Senate report lean heavily on language that couches the allegation in language like “appear to be,” “alleged,” “possible” and “potential.”

The report cites “questionable financial transactions involving Hunter Biden, other members of the Biden family, and their associations with foreign nationals” from questionable backgrounds “that have been identified as being consistent with a range of criminal activities, including but not limited to organized prostitution and/or human trafficking.”

There is a footnote at this point in the report that says “there is extensive reporting concerning Hunter Biden’s alleged involvement with prostitution services.”

However, the report then says that “records on file with the committee do not directly confirm or refute these individual reports.”

“They do confirm that Hunter Biden sent thousands of dollars to individuals who have either: 1) been involved in transactions consistent with possible human trafficking; 2) an association with the adult entertainment industry; or 3) potential association with prostitution,” the report says. “Some recipients of those funds are Ukrainian and Russian citizens. The records note that it is a documented fact that Hunter Biden has sent funds to non-resident alien women in the United States who are citizens of Russia or Ukraine. The records also note that some of these transactions are linked to what ‘appears to be an Eastern European prostitution or human trafficking ring.’”

It’s not clear who or what records the report is quoting here.

The report makes no other mention of human trafficking or prostitution.

We asked the homeland security committee to show us the records cited in the report but did not receive a response. Biden’s campaign also did not respond to a request for comment.

Asked about the human trafficking allegations on a radio show on Sept. 23, Johnson didn’t provide further evidence to support the report’s claims.

“We don’t have a great deal of information on it,” he said.

News coverage of the report varied.

Fox News put the claim that Hunter Biden paid women linked to prostitution or human trafficking in a headline but noted that the “report also said it could not confirm allegations.”

“The GOP report did not link (Hunter) Biden in any way to trafficking but suggested that he potentially paid prostitutes, presumably without knowledge, who may have stemmed from such rings,” Fox said.

In 2017, Kathleen Buhle Biden, then the estranged wife of Hunter Biden, alleged in a court filing that Biden had spent “extravagantly on his own interests” including “drugs, alcohol, prostitutes, strip clubs, and gifts to women with whom he has sexual relations,” according to the Associated Press.

According to a 2019 New Yorker profile, Hunter Biden denied hiring prostitutes.

The claim: Hunter Biden introduced Joe Biden to a Ukrainian businessman
On Oct. 14, the New York Post published a front-page story with a headline that seemed to promise proof of Joe Biden’s wrongdoing in connection with his son: “Smoking-gun email reveals how Hunter Biden introduced Ukrainian businessman to VP dad.”

The article relies on information from a computer hard drive that the tabloid said it received from Trump’s personal lawyer, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Also according to the New York Post, a computer repair shop owner in Delaware said he copied the hard drive from a water damaged laptop that was brought into his shop and never retrieved.

We weren’t able to verify the email cited in the article. The email correspondence disclosed in the story didn’t contain any metadata — such as a message ID or a timestamp — that would help establish its authenticity, nor did its content establish that a meeting actually happened. According to the New York Post, the email from an advisor to Burisma’s board to Hunter Biden read, “Dear Hunter, thank you for inviting me to DC and giving an opportunity to meet your father and spent (sic) some time together. It’s realty (sic) an honor and pleasure.”

The Senate report also doesn’t mention such a meeting.

Joe Biden has denied intervening in Hunter Biden’s business interests, and said that he has never spoken to his son about them.

“They never had a meeting,” a spokesman for the campaign told PolitiFact.

On Oct. 18, the New York Times reported that some New York Post reporters withheld their byline from the story over concerns about the article’s credibility.

Five Post staff members told the Times that “many” Post staffers questioned whether the Post had adequately verified the authenticity of the hard drive’s contents, according to the Times. They also raised concerns about the reliability of its sources and its timing.

First Look at Kathleen Buhle's Memoir: Hunter Biden's Ex on His Affair with Sister-in-Law — and Forgiveness An exclusive excerpt from Buhle's upcoming book, If We Break, offers a window into how the onetime Biden found healing through her pain.

There is a trace of wistfulness when Kathleen Buhle talks about her former husband — but no anger.

Five years after the end of their 24-year marriage, she says she has forgiven President Joe Biden's younger son, Hunter — who now has a new wife and a 2-year-old son — for the tens (perhaps hundreds) of thousands of dollars he squandered on his addictions, for his lies, for his infidelities and for whatever comes of a Justice Department investigation into his finances and business affairs. "Whether or not I'm questioned, I couldn't be of any help," she says. "I kept my head so deeply buried in the sand on our finances."

"I have forgiven him, yes," Kathleen, 53, says in an interview for the new issue of PEOPLE previewing her upcoming memoir If We Break, which goes on sale June 14. "Anger is such a heavy weight to carry and I was in a lot of pain. There was a lot that happened that was very hard for me. And when I made the decision to divorce, I wanted to let go of all of that."

It's when she talks of forgiving herself that she breaks into a small sob: "My greatest shame was feeling like my identity was not my own. It was in writing this book that I realized probably the heaviest weight was that I first had to forgive myself for not believing in myself."

The book, at once dignified and revealing, is a radical departure for this formerly ultra-private mom to daughters Naomi, 28, Finnegan, 23, and Maisy, 21. Kathleen says she started writing after Hunter's brother Beau died of brain cancer in May 2015 "and things didn't make sense."

"I found it cathartic," says Kathleen. She later took a creative writing class at Washington, D.C.'s independent Politics and Prose Bookstore and was convinced her journaling was the makings of a memoir.

Her post-divorce journey has been undertaken outside the spotlight occupied by her former in-laws, who will be hosting daughter Naomi's November White House wedding. Asked about her relationship now with Hunter's parents, the president and Dr. Jill Biden, Kathleen says: "Divorce impacts the whole family — not just the couple, not just the kids. We were all really close and it was painful. It was hard for a long time. But what we share now, and we will share for the rest of our lives, is this love for my three daughters."

The road she's walked as a single mom has been fraught with new pain: a diagnosis of stage 3 colon cancer months after her 2017 divorce. Now four years cancer-free, she can look back and laugh: "I had started working full time, sold my house and my fancy car, moved into a little row house and bought my little car. I was like, 'Look at me, I'm killing it!' And then ... I just got pummeled."

Today, she's finishing work on a nonprofit women's club — The House at 1229 — in D.C., an homage to the community that pulled her through her darkest days. She loves being financially independent. (Buhle says she does not receive alimony from Hunter and that there was no windfall divorce settlement.) "I have total control over my life now," she says. "I hope people see in my story the ability to start again."

Kathleen and Hunter were in their 20s, serving in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in Portland, Ore., when they met.

Despite the longish hair and ripped-up jeans, he carried himself with the elegance of a movie star. We walked the city for hours holding hands. For the first time in my life, I believed that I might actually be beautiful and smart and unique, all because he said so. We both had Irish roots? Amazing! We'd both been raised Catholic? Incredible! What separated us, though, was significant. Hunter had grown up the son of a U.S. senator. At the old estate where he lived, he had a tuxedo hanging in his closet—a tuxedo he used fairly regularly. Me? I came from Chicago's working class. Dinner at my house was served with paper towels and often included mac and cheese out of a Tupperware bowl. Hunter tried to tell me that he came from a middle-class family. Months later, when I went to his house for the first time, I explained to him: "Hunt, a kid from a middle class family does not have a ballroom."

They wed in 1993 and by 2001 were living in Delaware with three young daughters while Hunter commuted to Washington as a partner in a lobbying firm.

He started many ventures . . . a real estate investment fund and then a technology company. I didn't understand any of it, or what pieces of his businesses actually generated income for us. I worried that we lived above our means, but I did nothing to change it. The way that Hunter and I handled money was that whenever I needed any, I called Hunter. More than once my debit card was declined at a store. I'd have to call Hunter to transfer money into my account. Hunter and I drove nice cars and had a beautiful home, but we were running fast on that hamster wheel and barely staying on.

This was around the same time she saw his drinking "spiral from social to problematic."

One Saturday morning when we had friends visiting, Hunter walked into the kitchen looking as if he hadn't gone to sleep. I was making pancakes as I watched him pull a bottle of Jack Daniel's out of the cabinet. "Hunter! What are you doing?" I said. "It's 10 a.m.!" I don't think he knew what time it was, and he still seemed drunk. He laughed and put the bottle back. We all stared.

Hunter spent years in and out of rehab, while she made excuses to their girls for his long absences. After Barack Obama and Joe Biden won the White House in 2008, Kathleen confronted Secret Service protocol that, to her, felt like "one frequent reminder I wasn't a true Biden."

Shortly before Inauguration Day in January 2009 a Secret Service agent came to the house. He sat down in our kitchen and opened a big black binder. "Hunter and the girls will all have a detail assigned to them," he said. "Two agents with them 24 hours a day." Suddenly I felt embarrassed. Did this mean I was less important than my husband and my kids?

By November 2012 Hunter was back in rehab after exhibiting "manic" behavior the night his father and President Obama won reelection, then showing up drunk to a fundraising event. In May 2015 his brother Beau died of brain cancer, leaving behind his wife, Hallie, and two young children.

After the funeral, I saw a purpose in Hunter's work to set up the Beau Biden Foundation with Hallie and his parents. But he started spending most of his time at Hallie's house. Our therapist told me Hunter needed to be up there, helping Hallie. "But what about his sobriety?" I asked her. "He needs routine. He needs to be home with us." [The therapist] held firm that being with Hallie and her kids was an important part of Hunter's grieving.

That summer Kathleen found a crack pipe in their ashtray and threw Hunter out. He had earlier admitted to cheating with prostitutes when he traveled for work abroad, and now their marriage became an endless loop of anger (his) and mistrust (hers). He rented an apartment.

In the fall of 2015, I called and texted Hunter compulsively. From my computer, I watched his every move. There were charges at Lake Tahoe at a nail salon and a charge for two lift tickets. I found a credit card charge for $10,000 at a hot tub store in Los Angeles. I found hundreds at liquor stores and strip clubs. The whole time, he told me he was healthy and sober—and I was crazy. I continually told him that I was the one person actually trying to get him sober. It became my own kind of addiction. I didn't want to admit, to myself or anyone else, how unhealthy our relationship had become, so my struggle was just one more secret.

A Sunday morning in November 2016 brought painful clarity when her daughter visited the family therapist, Debbie.

I received the kind of call that tightens every parent's chest. "Mom, I need to talk to you," Finnegan mumbled through tears. "I'm at Debbie's." As I ran to my car, my mind went to intense fear. "Are you okay?" I asked. "Please, just come," she said.

I'd taken all three girls to see Debbie a few times to discuss Beau's illness and Hunter's drinking. "What happened?" I asked again, so scared. "I don't want to tell you over the phone," she said. Three miles later I was at Debbie's house. I went straight through to the sunroom and found Finnegan curled in a chair, holding a pillow while she wept. I wrapped my arms around her. "Everything will be okay. All right?" I told her. "I love you."

"Debbie," Finny said once we had Naomi on speakerphone, "can you tell her? We can't do it." Debbie looked me in the eye and calmly said, "Kathleen, Hunter's having an affair with Hallie."

"Oh my God." This was all I said. Was this what shock felt like? "How do you know?" I finally asked.

"We found his phone," Finnegan said. "There were text messages between them," Naomi added.

I could see Finnegan's face relaxing now that the secret was out and I hadn't fallen apart. If anything, I felt a strange vindication. Not only had I not been crazy, but it was so much worse than I could have imagined. I was shocked, but not heartbroken. Heartbreak had already flattened my self-esteem that past year. "We called Hunter," Debbie said to me then with a look of compassion. "We told him we found the phone and that we knew." She looked directly at me. "From now on, Kathleen, no more secrets. I told the girls that from this day forward, you will tell them the whole truth."

No more secrets. The idea was a relief. In 2019, two years after her divorce, Kathleen went to court to reclaim her identity as Kathleen Buhle.

Biden was my name. I'd taken it so we could be a family. It was my daughters' name, after all. In many ways, my last name became a crown and shield to me; it wasn't easy to consider giving it up. Changing my name had been as frightening as anything I'd ever done before. I was no longer a Biden. I'd handed in my crown and shield because I no longer needed them. Maybe I never had.

During the gathering, the president served food at a buffet line and also separately gave remarks and thanked the crowd for their service.

One particular moment during Biden's remarks was reposted and highlighted by social media users, political blogs and at least one tabloid. In this story, we'll first provide facts and video evidence regarding Biden's remarks at the event. Then, we'll explain the way that the moment in question was being framed online.

The event was broadcast in a lengthy C-SPAN video. The Forbes Breaking News YouTube channel also uploaded a shorter video of the same gathering. For the purposes of this story, we will be referencing times in the Forbes video so that readers can watch the moments mentioned.

"We only have one truly sacred obligation, and that's to prepare those who we send in harm's way, care for them and their families when they come home and make sure they are never forgotten," Biden said, beginning at the 4:31 mark in the YouTube video. "You literally are the backbone, the spine, the sinew of this nation. Only 1% of you, and this is important to keep in mind, 1% of you, that’s all, that protects the 99% of us."

Around three minutes later, at the 7:35 mark in the YouTube video, Biden noticed a little girl seated at table near the front of the crowd wearing a headband with a design of cat ears. He then walked over to her and pointed to the headband.

"I love your ears. I love – they're really cool," Biden said. He asked her name. She answered, "Catherine" (or perhaps a different spelling), and he answered, "Beautiful name."

Biden then said to the same girl, "Well, nice to see you. How old are you, 17?" He paused for a moment and looked up after another person yelled, "No, she's six." Biden said, "Six!" He next looked to a little boy (who may have been the person who yelled her age) and said, "And how old are you? 15?" Then, Biden said, "Four!"

During this part of the event when he asked the ages of the two young children, the C-SPAN and YouTube videos showed several service members, their families and others who were smiling at the president's remarks and laughing right after Biden's age guesses.

One of the women laughing and then nodding at Biden's remarks on the left-hand side of the video appeared to be one of the girl's parents, guardian or person who had been designated to watch the girl during the event, according to a second video of the same woman who was helping children along in the line where the president and others had been serving the meal at the event. (That moment begins at the 12:15 mark in this different YouTube video.)

The Associated Press reported of the moment that Biden had "lightheartedly bent down and joked" with the first child:

Biden also talked at the dinner with service members about watching Beau Biden’s children while he was deployed, but then appeared too overcome with emotion to continue and said, “I don’t want to talk about this.” The sadness was fleeting. A moment later he lightheartedly bent down and joked with a 6-year-old, saying “What are you, 17?”

“Happy, happy Thanksgiving,” Biden said. “May God love you all.” After Biden engaged with the two young children, the Republican National Committee Research X account, which has more than 500,000 followers, posted a 16-second video clip of a camera angle that was different than C-SPAN's and Forbes' and that was captioned as, "BIDEN: 'I love your ears.'"

The video ended before Biden asked the second child his age. Had both age guesses been included in the clip, it perhaps would have provided the context that The AP had mentioned in its reporting.

Political blogs and at least one tabloid attempted to report about the moment with Biden and the little girl in their headlines.

The Post Millennial published the headline, "CREEPY JOE: Biden asks 6-year-old girl if she's 17, says 'I love your ears.'"

The Washington Times reported, "‘Creepy Joe’ charges resurface after Biden asks 6-year-old girl if she’s 17."

The Daily Mail also published, "Creepy Joe strikes again? Biden slammed for telling girl, 6, 'I love your EARS' at Thanksgiving event."

In other words, any users who simply read these headlines but didn't look further for context might not leave with the facts. Simply look back at NPR's years-old April Fools' Day joke about "Why Doesn't America Read Anymore?" That joke had the aim of showing readers just how many online users would choose to comment under a Facebook post after only reading a headline and without even clicking on the article to read the story.
