Scotland Hindus Unite and Speak Up

I was asked to make a special visit to Scotland where the Hindu community faces intimidation and even official bias. And things are getting worse. The relatively new community lacks the level of maturity, organization, leadership, and resources that I found in London.

This visit had the objective of encouraging and empowering the local community. A key point was their reluctance to claim Hindu identity publicly because of a combination of factors:

Lack of self-confidence and understanding of dharma; lack of understanding of the main contemporary social-political issues; inferiority complex; open intimidation by many Hinduphobic groups including some in the present establishment; absence of good Hindu leaders who Scotland’s identity and relationships with United Kingdom and beyond, and especially with India.

I was glad to receive the feedback that the meetings during my brief were seen as a potential turning point in the unity and rise of responsible and assertive leadership.
