Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī, also known as Rumi or Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi (1207-1273), was a transformative 13th-century Persian poet, Islamic scholar, and Sufi mystic. Born in Balkh (present-day Afghanistan) to a family steeped in religious tradition, Rumi's life was shaped by profound spiritual experiences and intellectual pursuits.

After his father's death, Rumi became a renowned Islamic scholar and jurist. However, a transformative encounter with the wandering dervish, Shams-e Tabrizi, ignited a passion for mystical poetry within him. Rumi's poetry, often written in the Persian language with occasional verses in Arabic and Turkish, explores themes of love, divine connection, and the journey of the soul.

He founded the Mevlevi order, also known as the Whirling Dervishes, known for their unique spiritual practice of whirling as a form of meditation and seeking spiritual ecstasy. Rumi's profound poems and teachings continue to resonate with people across cultures and religions, offering timeless wisdom on love, inner peace, and the search for truth.
