"I decided to make this video after seeing that even though there are people who understand me, there are also people who have an inaccurate understanding of who I am, what I do, and why I do it. Here’s some more context. 😊 💕☀️ 🇦🇲🇺🇸

Part of what I talk about in my video:

I have something extremely important to address
about my ethnic culture
known as Armenians
regarding what I share on my social media
on Armenian culture.

I specialize in bringing awareness to the issues
on the patriarchal society structure aspect
of Armenian culture and how intersectional feminism can help
because I DO love Armenia and
I DO Armenian culture VERY PASSIONATELY.

I care about Armenia and Armenians all over the world
and that’s why I’m talking about these issues
because I want Armenia and Armenians to be the best they can be.

My intention isn’t to tear down Armenia,
it is to build Armenia up.

We have to confront the issues
on the patriarchal aspect of Armenian culture
in order to make Armenian culture better.

This is a quote from global feminist icon Chimamanda that I resonate with
“Some people will say women are subordinate to men because it’s ‘our culture’ but culture is constantly changing. What is the point of culture? Culture functions ultimately to ensure the preservation and continuity of a people. In my family I am the child who is most interested in the story of who we are in ancestral lands, in our tradition...

Culture does not make people, people make culture.
If it is true that the full humanity of women is not our culture, then we can and MUST make it our culture.

A feminist is a man or a woman who says “yes, there is a problem with gender as it is today and we must fix it, we must do better. All of us, women and men, must do better.”

From her book, “We Should All Be Feminists”

The patriarchal structure of Armenian culture
is a very serious issue not discussed enough
and swept under the rug too often.

I do not intend to generalize and I aim to open dialogue
because opening dialogue from an empathetic and loving place
is the fundamental building block of social change.

I focus on specific issues
such as the lack of intersectional feminism
because there are not enough voices
with platforms raising awareness
and educating on this subject
Especially in the Armenian community.
It must be de-stigmatized.

I am a sociology major in college,
I have multiple jobs,
and I have limited time and energy to expend on the positives,
which is why I specialize in intersectional feminism in the Armenian culture.
Every second I spend talking about the positives of our culture is time, energy, and opportunity lost giving voice to the issues our culture so desperately needs awareness and education on.

If you want more positives about Armenian culture,
you can follow people and pages that do that.

If you want to be a part of making our culture better for everyone,
whether they are girls, boys, women, men and everyone in between and outside of that,
then i invite you to the conversation that I give voice to
through my social media pages."
