What was the day he was speaking of? Some believe it speaks to the return of Jesus to the earth. I rather think it was speaking of the coming destruction of Jerusalem.
There was a lot of pressure exerted on everyone to rebel against Rome and one of the reasons the believers were persecuted was the fact they would not get involved in the resistance.
