Me socializing with Durian

I maintain a volunteer position at my local animal shelter and at the end of the day I usually have time to socialize with the cats. This cat's name is Durian... I have to avoid petting her on her back and butt because if I don't, shell think I'm trying to hurt her so she'll bite and scratch me. It's something with her nerves, or something like that
