Nullification is “the reserved power to nullify (or invalidate) any unconstitutional action… not only by refusing to implement it, but also by declaring it null, void, and of no force within a jurisdiction.” This explanation provided by The John Birch Society describes one of the most fundamental principles upon which the United States of America were established. It expresses the truth that the federal government is subservient to the states.

TN Citizens for State Sovereignty (TCSS) is an organization dedicated to educating the public on the importance of nullification. The group’s founder, Karen Bracken, joins The New American senior editor Rebecca Terrell in the spotlight to discuss legislation, drafted by TCSS, that is now proposed in both houses of the Tennessee state legislature. It would mandate a process by which nullification would be invoke and enforced. The same bill can also be used by citizens of other states who want to defend their homes against unconstitutional actions of the federal government.
