When it comes to how I got into video gaming, after playing in the arcades I cut my gaming teeth on the Atari 2600. Playing games like Night Driver, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, and Adventure were part of my formative years. While I played a lot of Atari 2600 Games, I've never had the love for that system that others have. Well, Atari is hoping to reach out to the masses again with the 2600, but expand it to include the 7800, a system I never played. Atari Is Updating the Atari 2600 for Modern Gamers, and this is the Atari 2600+ coming in November 2023.

From Atari:
Enjoy your favorite Atari 2600 and 7800 games on one system! Not only does the Atari 2600+ pull double cartridge duty, it also features HDMI and widescreen mode for easy connectivity to modern TVs.

Jump right in with the included CX40+ Joystick and a 10-in-1 game cartridge that features some of Atari’s most famous games like Adventure®, Missile Command®, and Yars' Revenge®.

Features
The Atari 2600+ is an updated version of the iconic Atari 2600 and has been enhanced in the following ways:

- Plays both Atari 2600 and 7800 game cartridges
- HDMI output makes it easy to connect
- Widescreen mode
- Enlarged cartridge socket reduces sticking
- Atari logo lights up when being played

2 Systems in 1

HDMI-Ready
Easily connects via HDMI so you can enjoy every last pixel.

I have pre-ordered one for myself, and at $130 It was a pretty easy decision to make. I will be curious to see how this compares to the Hyperkin Retro77, a system that greatly disappointed me. Much like that system, the Atari 2600+ uses emulation technology to play game cartridges. The 2600+ is powered by a Rockchip 3128 SOC, which means the odds are that it will dump the ROM before playing.

What do you think of the Atari 2600+? Is this something you would be interested in? Let us know in the comments!
