Shmuel Hanagid and Ibn Gvirol. Shmuel Hanagid became a powerful minister in Islamic Spain. He became the commander in chief of the forces in Granada. Shmuel Hanagid wrote volumes of poetry and wrote a history of Jewish Law. Solomon Ibn Gvirol was one of the greatest poets of both religious and secular poetry. One of his books “The Fountain of Life” became popular in the monasteries of Europe.
