In 1878, the small town of Amherst, in Nova Scotia, Canada, was home to some three thousand people. Described as “beautiful” by those who visited, the town was an unlikely candidate for devilry. However, in the summer of that year, it is said that the devil did indeed come to Amherst - and in his rage took possession of a young woman called Esther Cox. The strange phenomena that followed would be remembered as The Great Amherst Mystery.
