***শ্রী কৃষ্ণ দেবকী এবং বাসুদেবের কাছে জন্মগ্রহণ করেছিলেন, তবে যশোদা এবং নন্দ বৃন্দাবনে লালিত-পালিত হন। উৎসবটি সাধারণত কৃষ্ণপক্ষের অষ্টমী তিথিতে বা ভাদ্রপদ মাসের অন্ধকার পাক্ষিকের অষ্টম দিনে পড়ে। কথিত আছে, মথুরা কারাগারে ভগবান শ্রীকৃষ্ণের জন্ম হয়েছিল।

শ্রী কৃষ্ণ জন্মাষ্টমী এবং গোকুলাষ্টমী নামেও পরিচিত, এই দিনটি ভগবান কৃষ্ণের জন্ম স্মরণে পালিত হয়। কিংবদন্তি অনুসারে, দেবকীর অষ্টম পুত্র, ভগবান শ্রী কৃষ্ণ ভাদ্রপদ মাসের (আগস্ট-সেপ্টেম্বর) মাসের অন্ধকার পাক্ষিকের 8 তম দিনে জন্মগ্রহণ করেছিলেন।

***Shri Krishna was born to Devaki and Vasudev, however was brought up by Yashoda and Nanda in Vrindavan. The festival generally falls on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha or 8th day of the dark fortnight on the month of Bhadrapad . It is said that lord Krishna was born in Mathura Prison.

Also known as Shri Krishna Janmashtami and Gokulashtami, this day is celebrated to commemorate the birth of Lord Krishna. According to the legends, the eighth son of Devki, Lord Shri Krishna was born on the 8th day of the dark fortnight of the month of Bhadrapada
