Vijaya Viswanathan is a mechanical engineer by training and holds an MBA from the Wharton Business School and an MS in Manufacturing engineering from the university of Massachusetts. After a successful corporate career in Engineering and finance based in the US, Singapore, and Europe, she turned her focus to education.

As she embarked on a homeschooling journey with her children, she gained deep insights into the relevance of Indic knowledge systems in modern education. Vijaya co-founded Agastya gurukulam, which recently opened an Agastya learning center in Jayanagar Bengaluru. Agastya’s mission is to create thought leaders of the future - well-rounded, of high intellect, and firmly rooted in dharma. Agastya focusses on teaching Indic knowledge systems from original Sanskrit works. At Agastya Children learn subjects like KanThasthikaraNam, Samskritam, GaNitam, Itihasa-bhoogolam, Vignanam, Yoga/Kalari, MaatrubhAshA, Visual Arts and electives like Classical performing arts, Chess etc.

Vijaya is active in initiatives that focus on curricula, pedagogy, and mentoring. She is a student of Vedanta and studied under Swami Dayananda Saraswati. Vijaya also serves on the board of Infinity Foundation and has co-authored books on topics related to Indology.
