India Gate is a war memorial located in the heart of New Delhi, the capital city of India. It was built in memory of the 82,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives during World War I and the Afghan Wars. The monument is also known as the All India War Memorial and was designed by British architect Edwin Lutyens. It was completed in 1931 and is one of the largest war memorials in India. The India Gate is a 42-meter tall archway made of sandstone and is situated at the eastern end of Rajpath, a ceremonial boulevard that leads to the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the President of India. The names of the soldiers who died during the wars are inscribed on the walls of the monument. The India Gate is surrounded by a vast expanse of lush green lawns, which are a popular spot for picnics and evening walks for locals and tourists alike. In the evening, the monument is illuminated with colorful lights, making it a breathtaking sight.
