What's Your Favorite Game from Your 1st Game System? | Atari 2600

Over the years I have owned many video games and many systems, but recently I started to think back to what my favorite games were on different systems. Some systems are easy, like the SNES. Other systems, such as the Atari 2600, I really had to think about.

The Atari 2600 was the very 1st video game system we had in our house. Sure, we had Pong, but you couldn't really play that 1-player. We had the woodgrain 2600, a Sears 2600, and a few others. I also had a number of games to play too. Frogger, Donkey Kong, Night Race, and more. But thinking about it, there was one game I played on the Atari 2600 more than any other game, and that was Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

Published by Parker Brothers in 1982, the game recreated the snow speeder and AT-AT battle from the start of the movie. The AT-ATs slowly walked across the screen, and it was your job to take them out as quickly as possible. You had to keep shooting them, while at the same time making sure your snow speeder didn't get hit as the same time. You could occasionally down an AT-AT in one shot if a square started to flash on the walker, but you needed to avoid the blaster fire from other walkers at the same time.

As a huge Star Wars fanatic as a kid, this was like being able to live the movie at the time. The opening song was there, the walkers looked right, and the snow speeder was one of my favorite ships at the time. It was a perfect storm and the game I played more than just about any other on our Atari 2600.

What was your favorite video game from your first system you had? What was your first system? Let us know down in the comments, we'd love to hear your stories of what you played and why you loved it!
