Italy - 58
Italy tops the list with the most number of UNESCO WORLD Heritage Sites in the world. After the latest annual announcement of new sites by the UNESCO committee, the country is now home to 58 world heritage locations. Some of the new additions are the sheltered walkways or porticoes of Bologna, the 14th century fresco cycles of Padua and more.

China - 56
China clinches the second position with 56 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Although the Great Wall of China is its iconic landmark as well as the most popular tourist site, the Summer Palace, Forbidden City, Western Qing Tombs, Temple of Heaven, Ming tombs, are some of the spots that are must visit as well. Also, Fujian Tulou, which features 46 multi-storeyed buildings, in a circular courtyard makes for a great sight.

Germany sits in the third position with a total of 51 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, which include Aachen Cathedral, Berlin Modernism Housing Estates, Bauhaus, Cologne Cathedral, and Classical Weimar. The Wadden Sea is also a UNESCO-protected site, which is the world's largest system of mud flats and intertidal sand, and should be definitely visited when in Germany.

Spain occupies the fourth position with a total of 49 prestigious sites, and includes some exceptionally creative heritage sites. Although this beautiful destination has 49 sites in total, there are some of the sites that attract tourists in large numbers, such as Altamira Caves, Alhambra, Teide National Park, the Historic Centre of Toledo, and Camino de Santiago.

If reports are to go by, France is dotted with 41 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, of which 4 are natural properties, 1 is a mixed property, and 39 are cultural properties.
