Learn to Crochet Part 2 (How to Make a Slip Stitch, Form a Ring, Fasten Off, and Understanding the Differences between USA and UK Stitches)

1. Now that you’ve had time to practice part 1 of this series, you can now move into learning how to do a slip stitch (sl st). Even though Slip stitches (sl st) can be used to create beautiful patterns and fabrics on their own, they are commonly used when you want to avoid adding height to your row and when you want to make a ring.

2. Begin with crocheting a chain stitch (ch) to the desired length.

3. Making a Ring using a slip stitch (sl st).

4. What is a row?

5. Turning your work and making a slip stitch (sl st).
a. After turning your work, insert hook under the second “v” (or in the second stitch from the hook).
b. Yarn over (yo) the hook and pull through the slip stitch (sl st) and the loop on the hook.
c. Repeat

6. Front Loops, Back Loops, and Free loops
a. Front Loop (FL) is the front facing leg of the “v” or stitch.
b. Back Loop (BL) is the back positioned leg of the “v” or stitch.
c. Free Loops are the unworked legs or stitch. This can be a front loop, a back loop, or any unworked (2 legged or “v”) stitch.

7. Fasten Off
