Hannah Thompson, RDN, LD, CPT, joins the Trulyfit Podcast to share information about Pre and Post workouts. We discuss :
_
- Pre-workout:
_
--Are simple carbs are best (i.e. apple) for glycemic index/fast-acting access to energy? Or do we want a mixture of complex/simple? Or something else completely?
--Depending on goals isn't it conceivable there is no best pre-workout meal or plan? (i.e. some people work out better fasted and may just be doing light cardio, some people may need 2000 calories because they are going on a 20-mile run)
--In the general population; someone who lifts 3-4 times a week with a mixture of cardio machines and weights for the purposes of overall health and wellness...can you prescribe what a good pre-workout meal would be? (actual food examples and timeline leading into it)
--Thoughts on pre-workout drinks concerning the caffeine amount in these drinks.
_
Post-Workout:
_
--The old school bodybuilder thought process was always; no fats, a mixture of complex/simple carbs, and lean meat/protein. (i.e. Protein shake, apple sauce, half of the turkey sandwich on wheat)...is this still the thought or is this antiquated and science says otherwise?
--Familiarity with waxy maize (amylopectin)? If so, is the thought process behind taking this post-workout scientifically correct?
--Standard recommendations for the general population for post-workout meals.
--The science behind the recommendations
--Anything relevant concerning pre/post-workout eating
--...so much more
