Performance Notes:

Inspired by his wife, Clara, who once commented he seemed “like a child,” Robert Schumann composed a series of thirty short pieces (mostly only a page in length) and chose thirteen to include in his “Kinderzenen.” Among these, the most well-known is certainly his slow and rubato “Träumerei.” It has become a much-performed piece by pianists and has been happily adopted by other instrumentalists as well.
There is little specific guidance in the music apart from the notes themselves, but tempo should be maintained rather slow, and the phrases may be played as rubato as one would like.
