No blanket endorsement for keto diet...
-but, everyone should have ketones in
blood for some chunk of time
-easiest way? fasting!
-One 24-hour food fast per week, will:
~ensure you insulin comes down and you
will have some ketones:
-helps body to be insulin sensitive, and
-fuels brain with ketones
3 days a week: skip breakfast, stop eating after dinner!
-at lunch, next day, you will be in a mild state of ketosis

No evidence that having the brain...
-switch between ketones and glucose is
beneficial
-let's be smart with our carbs:
~avoid most processed ones
~have periods of time keeping insulin LOW
(low carb or fasting)

Latest research at his BYU lab on mice:
-finding that ketones are:
~maintaining high energy production
in older animals
AND
~increasing their curiosity and exploratory behavior
"Their brains WANT TO BE LEARNING AND EXPLORING"
-animals are moving more, exploring more, and
-appear to remember more

Beta amyloid plaque theory is garbage...
-it has fallen apart
-post-mortem exams reveal that
~whether person had Alzheimers or not
~had NO PREDICTIVE POWER OF WHO
HAD PLAQUES AND WHO DID NOT
"If plaques matter,
then all who died with Alzheimers would have them,
and those without Alzheimers would not"

Just last year, FDA was going through the
approval process for an Alzheimers drug...
-it was approved by the FDA, despite:
~the Special Panel voting AGAINST IT
-the drug showed no powerful efficacy
-like other anti-plaque drugs that:
"Just don't work"
Primary reason that the 'energetic' view of Alzheimers is so popular
-it has so much more substantial data to support it!
-may not ever be totally mainstream
"Something is only mainstream when there is an expensive drug
to go along with it"
