We learned that Potiphar’s wife was trying to distract Joseph from his job! One day he went inside the house and all the other servants were outside! He was the only servant who was inside! Today let’s read Genesis 39:11 and open your door then have your Tiny Arrow go outside and tell them they are outside! Then have them hop inside the house and tell them they are inside! Then have them jump outside again and say all the servants were outside, and when they hop inside say Joseph was the only servant who was inside!
One day he went into the house to attend to his duties, and none of the household servants was inside.

Joseph was staying focused on what he was suppose to be doing, even though Potiphar’s wife kept on asking for him to spend time with him! Today let’s read Genesis 39:10 and play a focus game! Grab something small for your Tiny Arrow to focus on and move it around in front of them, encouraging them to keep their eyes focused on it! Then try to distract them by adding another object to your other hand or wiggle or move your fingers in your other hand to represent Potiphar’s wife trying to distract Joseph!
And though she spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be with her.

Joseph was responsible for everything in his masters house, but he was not responsible for his masters wife! She was under her husbands care! Today let’s read Genesis 39:9 and grab a doll to represent Potiphar’s wife. Explain that your Tiny Arrow will represent Joseph and the doll Potiphar’s wife, then go around a room and point to different things. After you point to something say that Joseph was responsible for such and such, but not Potiphar’s wife; then go around pointing out a few different things and showing them the doll of what Joseph was not responsible for.
“No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?”

Joseph was handsome and blessed! His masters wife wanted to spend time with Joseph, but Joseph knew that is was not what he was suppose to do! He was in charge and he needed to do things right! He needed to focus on what he was suppose to do. Today let’s read Genesis 39:7-8 and talk about responsibility, you can even make it fun by playing something like shopkeepers where they are the owner of the store. Not only should they make sure that they are taking care of everything in the store, but focusing on what they are suppose to do! For example they can help you “pack up” groceries, making sure they are doing their best and focusing!
and after a while his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me!” But he refused. “With me in charge,” he told her, “my master does not concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care.”

Joseph was in charge of everything his master Potiphar had! Potiphar only had to worry about the food he ate! Today let’s read Genesis 39:6 and talk to your Tiny Arrows about chores! Ask them if they had no chores, like putting away their toys or helping around the house, if all they had to do was worry about what they wanted for breakfast, lunch and dinner, what would they choose? What would they want for breakfast, lunch and dinner then grab a piece of paper and help them to write it down like a menu and draw pictures of the food!
So Potiphar left everything he had in Jospeh’s care; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate.

Even though Joseph was a slave and did not want to be sold, God was with him! God helped Joseph to prosper in his new home so much that his master favored him! Today let’s read Genesis 39:2-4 and talk with your Tiny Arrows about the ways Joseph could have been successful in his new home! Maybe if Joseph helped with planting and harvesting there was a lot more good healthy plants! Maybe if Joseph repaired things around the house they were better than new! Then tell your Tiny Arrow a time that the Lord was with you!
The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did, Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant.

Today let’s read Genesis 38:29 and grab blanket and string from yesterdays lesson. Repeat having your Tiny Arrow stick their hand out of the blanket and loosely tie string around their wrist, then have them pull their hand back in and, if needed, help them take the string out and pull back the blanket! Explain that the baby who came out first did not have the thread around their wrist! Just like they do not have it on them now!
But when he drew back his hand, his brother came out, and she said, “So this is how you have broken out!”

Today let’s read Genesis 38:28 and grab a piece of string and have your Tiny Arrow hide their arm under a blanket. Have them reach their hand out from under the blanket and tie a piece of string around their wrist! Just like the midwife did!

We learned that Tamar and Judah traded, but the thing that Judah wanted to trade with never got to Tamar. Tamar was suppose to get a young goat, but she only got Judah’s staff, seal and cord. Instead of trying to find Tamar, Judah decided to let Tamar keep what she had and he would keep the goat. Today let’s read Genesis 38:23 grab two small items. Point to the first item and explain that Judah wanted to give Tamar one thing, but he didn’t have it with him when he wanted to trade so he gave her the second thing. Then point to the second thing and explain that Tamar never got the first thing, but she only kept the second.
Then Judah said, “Let her keep what she had, or we will become a laughingstock. After all, I did send her this young goat, but you didn’t find her.”

Then give your Tiny Arrow a mystery to solve! This could be a misplaced toy or a misplaced snack. Have them ask you questions like where it might have gone so they can solve the mystery!
He asked the men who lived there, “Where is the shrine prostitute who was beside the road at Enaim?” “There hasn’t been any shrine prostitute here,” they said. So he went back to Judah and said, “I didn’t find her. Besides, the men who lived there said, “There hasn’t been any shrine prostitute here.”
