107: An Old Evil and the Demoralization that Follows
The culture war has shifted its attention to an old evil: Slavery. While we start by navigating some of the responses, the conversation quickly turns to what we think about terms like RELIGION and MORALITY. The accusation that The Sound of Freedom is a religious thriller tells more about the accuser than the film when we look at what that implies.
But when a population raises its awareness to a horrible evil, it does not necessarily translate into an equivalent response, instead creating a whiplash effect from moral outrage to moral outrage, ultimately resulting in a state of demoralization. Those aware leave with only the tension between their awareness of evil, and a feeling of incapability.
But we have a response to the global decentralized network that is Human Trafficking, and in this case, it is to pay attention to what you are responsible over.

105: Some People Have It
Throughout history we have a long list of examples of both individuals and empires that divided all of humanity between those above and those below. Where it's the oppressors and the oppressed, the free and the serfs, the government and the people, or a complex caste system, these social structures are most often deemed immoral, incorrect, or manipulative.
Yet, when it comes to people, while we may come to believe that all people are created equal, such an idea, absent a Metaphysic with a Creator, doesn't appear obvious: we are not all born in the same economic status, geographical location, or timeline. We have different proclivities, preferences, and traditions. Whether or not there are more differences or similarities between all peoples across time may come down to semantics.
So, when we say that some people have it, and some people don't, what are we saying?

104: Declaration or Manifesto?
What's the difference between the Declaration of Independence and the Manifesto of a Mass Murderer? As we celebrate the 4th of July, we have the opportunity to reflect on our values, and state what we believe to be right and true and good.
Our country was founded on more than just Scruples. And every generation must learn that if we do not consider those values, and voluntarily chose to uphold them, they will crumble under our watch.
Do you have a line in the sand? One that if crossed, demands a response? Are you afraid that your Declaration of Independence will be considered the manifesto of a madman?

100: Jack Donovan on Masculinity, Violence, and Myth
If the Gun Culture of the 1990's had a mythology to be described by the mainstream media, it would be centered around an approaching apocalypse. But for most historical mythologies, apocalypse referenced a conclusion of the knowable timeline. Jack Donovan has written extensively about masculinity and violence long before words like "manosphere" reached the internet.
In this episode, we cover concepts like the Empire of Nothing as presented in Becoming a Barbarian, the relevance of the striker in myth in regards to violence, and rejecting the abdication of Morality to convenience.
Jack Donovan is the author of "The Way of Men," "Becoming a Barbarian," "A More Complete Beast," and "Fire in the Dark" as well as other titles. In these books he covers topics and theses such as "Violence is Golden," and defining masculinity across cultures.

099: A Priori vs A Posteriori Justifications and Violence
Why are our leaders setting us up for failure? Which ones are aware of the trap, and which ones are merely following the language of the crowd? As we continue to ask the question of When is Violence moral, if ever, we recognize that we are running on the edge of a razor between two devastating outcomes. Be it incarceration. failure, or damnation, we are not ignorant fools playing with fire, but something like Prometheus in the contemporary age, with the warning not going unnoticed.
A Priori and A Posteriori are terms familiar to those who regularly engage with rigorous philosophy, and for good reason. Although primarily and epistemic question, the findings we conclude echo through what we believe about morality, responsibility, and violence.
A Priori: Knowledge that is justified without empirical evidence/experience.
A Posteriori: Knowledge that is justified by observation/evidence/experience.
So, in this case, is there a reason why almost all of our examples for justifying being capable of violence based on the potential future of an attack?

098: Jake Kunsky of JK Armament on Suppressor History, Culture, and Dark Competition
The proliferation of Suppressors across the broader reaches of what we call Gun Culture may serve as counter to the doom-sayers of the Second Amendment. While we observe and react to the continuous stream of infringements and proposals of such, as more and more people take interest in the availability and benefits of Suppressors, we see it grow more and more entrenched in normalcy.
Jake Kunsky has lived on the other side of that veil we call the Gun Store, observing and participating in not only the development of physical products, but abstract concepts as well. His influence is visible, for those who know what to look for.
JK Armament has recently brought two new suppressors to the table, to challenge the status-quo of shotguns and handguns commonly used for concealed carry.

097 Part 2: Jordan of Finance and Maneuver // Risk and Reward
In this second half, the conversation continues on questions that haunt every man. Fables, expectations, and rites of passage, common motifs through history, men desire something to be demanded of them, something they can be worthy of.
In addition, we take a look at some of the rules Gun Culture functions on, and challenge the norms.

097 Part 1: Jordan of Finance and Maneuver - Cliffside.
More than just Gun Culture is reeling from an atomized society. As a result, the term "community" rides from one circle to another, as something we're feeling the need for. Despite the ambiguous appearance, Finance and Maneuver built a beacon through technology that so many different people could circle the wagons around.
What's the difference between a DM and running into your neighbor at the Grocery store? Is our nostalgia misplaced for a past that never really existed.

096: Need is Not Enough
Better to have it and not Need it, then to Need it and not Have it.
This simple justification may work in a pinch, but in the long run it leaves us open to attack. The concept of justification goes deeper than circumstantial evidence when we consider morality. There must be more than conditions, imperatives must come from somewhere.
By grounding our moral justification in a shallow condition as need, we set ourselves up for the destruction of our so-called rights.

095 Pt 1: Luke Brown aka Southpaw Luke on Odysseus, Meaning, and Republic
One of the pleasures of engaging with Philosophy, is that it nearly requires one to read the old texts. There's a reason we so often go back to the Greeks, and it's not always that we understand them to be correct. Whether it's the good works that survive history because they are so good, or that the Iliad and the Odyssey provide such an excellent landscape to explore various moral arguments, we find the motivations of one protagonist to illuminate the difference between the why and the how of violence.
Luke Brown brings a conversation that moves beyond the disappointment we may face when observing a Gun Culture that is less than what we want it to be, and with an attitude that encourages us all to do better.

094: Meditations on Evil
The idea that there is no such thing as evil has historically remained an uncommon belief. Call it a privileged one if you will, but that alone is not sufficient in making an argument one way or another. The existence of evil perplexes in ways beyond the intellect.
How we think about evil will determine how we approach it, and our conclusions will make demands of us, so tread lightly.
Racism, Activism, Human Suffering, the Problem of Evil, are just a few ways of entering into the conversation, one that exists both on the surface, and deep below.

093 pt 2: Ahmad of Lead & Steel // Is Multiculturalism a Left-Right Any Issue?
Picking up where we left off, we start again with a conversation on Multiculturalism, from our differing and aligning perspectives. The Gun Industry has changed what it means to be a typical Gun Owner.
Multiculturalism remains a sensitive touchpoint in a world that is getting smaller through technology, and as a result, the stakes are high and will no go away. We are regularly being made aware of the cost of war, unless we deliberately seek to avoid it. And the cause of conflict must not be oversimplified, lest we start down the path of dehumanization.
Hard conversations require courage. Thank you for listening.

093: Ahmad of Lead & Steel on Optics, Multiculturalism, and Better Lawyers
Much has changed since 2013. In the world of Red Dots, we are no longer forced to choose between a T1 or EOTech. Lead & Steel, the company that brought the LP-1 Promethean brings forward some of their optic design in this conversation, and in our fashion, quickly turns to what drives us in Gun Culture.
Ahmad's perspective on the shift in our community started over a decade ago. The social strata has changed more than just the relationship between veterans and citizens. One example: Legal Representation has gotten so much better.

091: Why You Should Become Dangerous
The Common Criteria that Gun Culture has given for bearing arms has come up short when it comes under scrutiny. For the past decades we have based our moral 'ought' when it comes to carrying a firearm on the potentiality of being attacked or infringed upon, as well as the deterrence it might bring. But under closer consideration, this leaves a massive gap in our reasoning, one that, despite their lack of knowledge on the subject, intellectual predators are willing to use as an avenue of approach.
In this episode, we engage with an argument for why we should become dangerous, not just armed. It is in the act of becoming capable that we undergo an moral development into not only the how, but the why of violence, the capabilities and moral constraints of such.
We look forward to the conversations that come from this episode. Enjoy.

090: Rhetoric and Reason
Rhetoric holds a position in both rigorous philosophy and colloquial conversation that carries a connotation of the mystic. Aristotle's work on Philosophy by the English title Rhetoric begins with identifying the difference between effective public speaking, and logical discussion. Things go awry when one presents Dialectic, while performing Rhetoric.
In order to understand and challenge these things, we take a look at the difference between Rhetoric and Dialectic. Following on from the distinction, there's an opportunity to look at how we approach both conversation and critical thinking, in order to make sure our intellectual footing.
Credit goes to James Lindsey on strategies for addressing the malicious deception of using a dialectic to deceive conversation.

089: Fred Baker of Counting Coup Tactical on Vetting Your Instructor
It may be a brutal reality, but the moment you step out, sit down, or take a break, you'll start falling behind. This has been the state that individuals live by in Special Operations, cutting edge Industry, and those kinds of pursuits that require aspiration. Never being allowed to rest on your achievements may sound like a truly frustrating way to live, but when it comes to life-and-death stakes, that's just the way of it, and we can't really get away from it.
In this discussion, we also address what steps individuals can take to vet an instructor. We all started somewhere, some of us with terrible experiences, or with bad habits that took years to smooth out.
Glory in Battle. The Death of the Anti-Hero, and here we are at.

088: Andrew on Discerning Intelligence from Information
In the Army, there is a saying that Military Intelligence is an Oxymoron. And that could hold if we were to be satisfied with cynicism having the final say in how we move forward as a culture. If the intel world is messed up, than rightly it need to be fixed. But if that is not the case, were do we start looking to remedy this issue?
Andrew's history in Military Intelligence serves as context for how he sees information turned into something useful, both for a command structure and for the individual looking to be an asset to their community. In this podcast we dive deeper into that perspective and how we as citizens can add value to those we care about.

087 Part 2: Militia Industrial Complex with Justin of Fenix Ammo
The Military Industrial Complex: the ire and foil of politicians, pundits, and economists galore. But what is the proper response from a Free Peoples? Sometime you vote at the ballot box, and sometimes you vote with your dollar. But it doesn't stop there for all people. Instead, when people hear the word Militia, we would like them to think of a volunteer group of people taking responsibility for their communities.
And part of that, is creating resources for them. That's the punchline of the Militia Industrial Complex, or at least how we interpret it.
In this conversation, a part 2 with Justin Nazaroff of Fenix Ammo, we engage further in what it means to take responsibility and life our beliefs in the day-to-day.

085 Part 1: Chuck Robeson of All Skill No Luck and Raid Skateboards
Is Gun Culture jealous of the skateboarding community? The tactical and competition sub-genres regularly exchange both ideas and gear that find their way across the spectrum. In the same way, we see how the fashion and function of clothing flows in and out of Gun Culture as we ride the wave of time.
Does Chuck Robeson brings that military-inspired-flare to civilian attire through All Skill No Luck, standing apart from the typical lineup through a focus on both style and substance. It's just about flat colors and blending in. In addition, Raid Skateboards provides iconic art and style to an otherwise Olive Drab environment.

084: The Clear and Complicated Core of Self Defense
On the one hand, The Right to Self Defense could not be clearer. And on the other hand, further consideration both clarifies and complicates the matter. We engage with a valuable resource: The Standford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, on how we think about self defense in terms of rights, culpabilities, causation, and responsibility.
In this we are reminded, that just because someone asks a valid question, does not guarantee that the inquiry is genuine.

083: The Bible, Violence, and Heresy
We have heard that the Bible teaches to love our enemies and turn the other cheek. If that were the whole story, then we would rightly conclude that so much of history, even Biblical history, is in direct contradiction of these rules.
But what if those two phrases were spoken in a greater context? And what if that context was visible through Bible as a whole?
In this episode, we dig back into various moral foundations when it comes to Violence. From the Old Testament and the Ten Commandments, to Just War Theory, to the tension between mercy and justice, we look at how we might understand violence through a Biblical Worldview.
Starting, of course, with heresies and their collapse.

Part 2 with Chris Blau returns with a discussion on some of the advantages of shooting different disciplines: competition, long range, tactical, and so forth. But that's not where the conversation ends.
