Arizona Phoenix The Arizona State Fair walkthrough on a quiet day
Slowing the film down just a bit to smooth it out a bit and give you a bit more time to see everything. The fair is always a great place to go to practice Photography, there is always a great deal of subject matter to shoot, whether it’s street photography, Food, people, or if you’re just playing with your new Boke Effects lens, there is plenty to see and shoot. I went alone this day to just take pictures, it was great I was a fly on the wall to everyone having fun.
I am intentionally not trying to make a lot of cuts to this video, I am trying to show you what the Arizona State Fair really looks like.
A “Day in the Life” kind of a look. This entire video, and most of the Arizona State Fair videos that I’d shot are from a GoPro Hero 8 Camera with an I Steady hand held Gimble

Arizona Phoenix Arizona State Fair 2 The Vendors and Animals
This is my first time at the Arizona State Fair, I was a little surprised by the size. It was a lot smaller than the Puyallup fair, a fair in Seattle that I’d been going to for years. There was still plenty to do, with a fun environment and great food. I happened to go on a Thursday late morning, on the last week of the month long fair, so the crowds were small. Exactly what I thought I was looking for. The Vendors had a wide assortment of interesting products, ranging from old time and handmade candies, hand craft items, and imports from Africa, Mexico, India, and Finland. The animals were the basic farm animals, with a great petting zoo. If your kids haven’t visited a petting zoo before, I would strongly recommend going to the fair just for the petting zoo.

Arizona Phoenix Arizona State Fair under the grandstand breezeway
The Arizona State Fail runs for a month, unfortunately I couldn’t make it until the last week, on a Thursday afternoon
with hardly anyone there. I was so early that I had the place almost all to myself. Great for filming, I thought. Then I realized that without people, the rides don’t go, and without moving rides, there isn’t much to shoot. I still found some interesting things and took a bit more time shooting than normal because of the lack of people

New York Manhattan Walking around Times Square 2
The Second part of our walkthrough in Times Square. We were all getting pretty wet by now. Andrew and I were thinking more about getting someplace inside and out of the rain, which is why we stepped into the tourist trinket shop. My wife is a minimalist, she doesn’t like lining the shelves with “stuff” great for me, I didn’t buy anything. It was nice to get out of the rain for a few minutes though.
With only 4 hours to see all we could see in Manhattan, Our friend Dan offered to be our driver and tour guide. We eagerly accepted this generous offer. Dan drove us up and down the streets of Manhattan stopping at the famous landmarks for us to look at, or go visit in person. We actually declined to get out and see most of the attractions in person. We’d just come from Arizona and were woefully unprepared for the cold, wet, rainy weather. We did make some great stops on our tour, I’ll include those videos as I finish them up.

New York Manhattan Walking around the 911 memorial
Going to the 911 memorial in Manhattan was one of those things that My Son Andrew and both wanted to do, but both dreaded. I had just retired from Microsoft a month before and lost a few members of my crew that were in New York on that day. Andrew saw the planes fly into the buildings live and woke me up to tell me. We watched the news the rest of the day. Andrew was 6 and watching early morning cartoons when the news interrupted with live pictures of planes flying into buildings. What a great thing to interrupt children’s cartoons for. Yeah, we remember that day, where we were, and what we were doing. Sorry for the somber music, but I bet many of you are feeling the same.

New York Manhattan Macy’s Wooden escalator
Macys in Manhattan has, as far as I know, the first and the last working wooden Escalator. It’s still working after 120 years is a testament to the Otis Elevator company, the name you see on almost every elevator in America. The wooden escalator makes a really cool dull thud as the slats line up at the top and bottom of the escalator. It’s a very peaceful and calming sound. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the wooden escalators make a comeback someday. There’s just something timeless and pleasant about the sound and feel of riding on a fully functional 120 year old relic of the past technology.

New York Manhattan Walking around Times Square 1
Ahh,, we made it to Times Square in New York, New York. ! I made a promise to my son Andrew that I’d take him here someday. I used to travel frequently on business and spent weeks out of every year in Manhattan. I would bring home pictures and trinkets from Times Square for my kids. They always wanted to go with me. They thought I was on vacations, not working 18 hours a day, 7 days a week to build them a better future. When he was 6, my son Andrew made me promise to take him to Manhattan someday. As we were walking in Times Square, I remembered that promise. I mentioned it to Andrew, and he’d forgotten about it long ago. Oh, well it was still a promise fulfilled, even if it was a long forgotten promise. I never forgot about it.

Nevada Las Vegas The Bellagio Hotel Fountain at Night
The Fountain at the Bellagio Hotel is a major tourist attraction all its own. What an incredible job they did engineering the pumps and lighting to make a great light and water show. The song I can’t play, but is synched to the fountain is “This Kiss” By Shania Twain. I found some other, cooler music to insert instead.. Hope you enjoy it.

Oklahoma Driving through Claremore Oklahoma Endless Farmlands, Beautiful country
Driving through Oklahoma, I was amazed at how beautiful it was, the only thing I’d ever equated with Oklahoma was Tornadoes, corn, and wheat. The visual in my head was a huge vast nothingness of brown hay fields. I have a brand new respect and appreciation for Oklahoma now. I definitely want to go back to explore the small towns and historical sites. I really don’t like my pre-conceived notions about places. I find that I’m always wrong, once I get off my butt and actually see the place I hear about.
My challenge to you is,. Go out and visit someplace that you may have heard bad things about, and experience it for yourself to see if your mental image of said place is, if you were wrong, tell everyone about the place to help them rearrange their impressions as well.

New York New York Walking around Seaport District in the rain
In New York, we met up with My Son Andrews good Friend Dan. He took us on a sightseeing tour of Manhattan. Letting us get out to see different points of interest. What a great day, even though it was raining pretty hard most of the day, 54 degrees and at the height of the Virus outbreak. I think these factors helped us to get around town that much easier to see the sights, there were very few other people outside. Thank you Dan for taking us out on such a fantastic trip, these memories will truly last forever.

New York New York Driving through Manhattan in the rain
With only 4 hours to see all we could see in Manhattan, Our friend Dan offered to be our driver and tour guide. We eagerly accepted this generous offer. Dan drove us up and down the streets of Manhattan stopping at the famous landmarks for us to look at, or go visit in person. We actually declined to get out and see most of the attractions in person. We’d just come from Arizona and were woefully unprepared for the cold, wet, rainy weather. We did make some great stops on our tour, I’ll include those videos as I finish them up.

New York Fort Lee Driving over the Hudson River to New York on a rainy day
Driving from New Jersey over the Hudson Bridge into New York. On our way to Long Island, the traffic was terrible, but the scenery was interesting so I sped up the video to show you what it’s like driving on the freeways into New York. Unless you live in New York or New Jersey, you’ll probably never see these roads. I’ve been visiting New York for a number of years and this is the first time that I’d driven into the city.

New York Long Island Driving around Long Island on a rainy day
New York State, Were Driving on Long Island near the Deer Park Area.
This is where many of the people that work in New York City actually live. Long Island is so peaceful and quiet compared to New York City, yes, Long Island is an Island, and New York City is on Manhattan Island. There are a lot of Islands in this area, almost all of them are connected my bridges and freeways.
My Son Andrew and I are on this trip to New York, to drop off a parts Jeep to a collector in the area.
The whole trip was raining, so the pictures weren’t that great, but it’s another chance to see areas of America that I’d never seen before.

California Disneyland Main Street
Disneyland Main street, isn’t this the place everyone wants to go to, slow paced, mellow and laid back, a mini parade every 40 minutes or so, and everyone is allowed to dress up. (As long as it’s appropriate, and Disney related).
I’ve been there about 7 times in my life, once when I was just a kid, once in my early 20’s, twice as a dad with very young children, a few times by myself (for work). And finally as a Trio with a 13 year old.
I can tell you now, that the best time was with my wife and 13 year old daughter.
The first time I was about 6. Way too young to remember much, other than the autobahn, and the “It’s a Small World” ride, which terrified me for some reason.
In my early 20’s, with a girlfriend, Dangerous. I was spending all of my time watching the other girls enjoying themselves. My girlfriend noticed a little too much and that pretty much ended that romance.
As a dad with young kids, Nope.. We were trying to see and do too much for the limited amount of time we had, it was too hot for the kids, my wife and I pushed too hard to see all “we” wanted to see. The kids didn’t remember much about the trip except for the hassle. We bought our kids things “we” always wanted, which weren’t appreciated after the excitement of the trip waned.
Going there by myself because I was at a convention nearby and had a free day, was miserable.
I had all the time I wanted, I could buy whatever I wanted, go wherever I wanted and ride any ride I wanted. It just made me wish the family was there with me to enjoy all that I was supposed to be enjoying, the whole day I was just homesick.
Going to Disneyland with my wife and 13 year old daughter was by far the best experience I’d ever had at Disneyland. First, there were only 3 of us, secondly 13 is a magical age for kids, straddling the gap between being a kid and becoming an adult. Sofia was old enough to go on rides by herself, help us choose where to go and what to see, and still young enough to fully enjoy the experience. Ok, she didn’t hug any princesses, but she couldn’t because of the Virus. We took our time and enjoyed the scenery and rides without trying to pack too much into our time. With the past experiences of me being there, we decided to just go to Disneyland Park, not Disneyland California. We planned to Spend 2 days at the park, and walk back to our nearby hotel if we got too tired.
Overall we had a great experience at Disnelyand Park. We’ll probably go to Disneyland California during the Christmas break to experience that park for 2 days. So I’ll probably have more videos of that park coming in a few months.
We were hyped about Disneyland. If you have time you may want to wander over and take a look at Vietnam’s version of Disneyland, when we were in Vietnam, Thao and Sofia took me to their version of Disneyland. (Dai Nam Theme Park)

California Disneyland Main Street Photo slideshow
Disneyland Main Street was a blast. It is the first place you see when you walk into Disneyland. There’s always Ragtime music playing in the background as you walk down the street, so I thought I’d add some of my own, but it got boring after a few minutes so I spiced it up a bit towards the end.
With a pair of DSLR’s, a pair of GoPro Hero 8 cameras. I was out to take as many pictures as I could. I wanted to photograph everything at Disneyland. Unfortunately my beautiful wife doesn’t like her pictures on the internet, and I didn’t realize in my eagerness that I had my wife and daughter with me.
I was spending more time taking pictures than I was spending time with my family.

California Driving the L.A. freeway after dark 2
I made a part 2 to this video because part 1 got a great deal of interest, I love watching these videos in the background while working on other projects. It’s nice to know that other people like these kinds of videos as well.
Driving in the dark always seems to put me into a mellow trance like state. I’m awake and aware, but watching the car lights dance around me always seems to bring on that slightly altered state.
My family and I are still driving to Disneyland, but it’s around 11:00 and they’ve both fallen asleep. I can’t turn on the radio because I want to let them sleep a bit, after all in about 7 hours we’re getting up to go to Disneyland for the whole day. If I were to turn on music, the music I selected for this video is what I’d imagine would be playing.

California Disneyland Mad Hatter’s Teacup ride after dark
In Disneyland, it seems that After Dark is when all of the magic happens. Most of the people have gone already so the lines are smaller, giving you a chance to ride the “popular” rides more than once. Most of the year it’s still pretty warm after dark, and the rides light up giving you an extra visual dimension to the whole area. Then the evening light show just sort of gets everybody reinvigorated again with the high level of energy they put out. Disneyland is one of those places that I never tire of going to. It’s just a laid back home town kind of a good feeling.
Enjoy, and let me know what you think.

California Disneyland It’s a small world The scariest ride of my young life
The first time I want to Disneyland is probably in the early 60’s when I was about 6 years old or so.
We did the typical thing of “see all you can see in one day” so we rushed through Disneyland pretty fast. I remember my mom wanting to take us on the it’s a small world ride, but I was terrified of those small, soulless,, lifeless,, Children dancing around throughout the ride. I’d seen the ride on TV before on the Wonderful World of Disney, but it always sort of creeped me out.. She convinced all of us to go on the ride and I was terrified for the full 20 minute ride. I was sure that these dancing kids were being tortured and were wanting to escape, or maybe they were bad kids being forced to dance like this for the rest of their lives. Remember I was 6. I’m an old man now,, Like over 30, and I still am creeped out by that ride. So I thought I’d give you all my version of “It’s a Small world ride” minus the haunted singing,
“It’s a world of Sorrow, it’s a world of pain, It’s a world of Evil and a world of shame.. My 6 year old mind filled with fears of the cold war with Russia, seeing comparisons of the just finished Korean War to the upcoming Vietnam War on the news every night. Hippies, psychedelic drugs, Free Love, new diseases discovered every day. What was there for a 6 year old to look forward to..
No other ride in Disneyland scared me in the slightest. I thought the Haunted House was Hilarious, with all of it’s subtle humor, and the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse was a kids dream. But the “It’s a Small World” ride has always creeped me out.
Enjoy, and let me know what you think.

California Disneyland Mad Hatter’s Teacup ride
The Teacup ride has always been my favorite ride at Disneyland, it’s as slow or fast as you want it to be, the colored lantern lights overhead make it all that much more fun. The only thing I can do to improve this ride is to add some Electro Swing music to it. Just to spice it up a little
