Sexuality Pt 2: Infantile Sexuality - Sigmund Freud
Blog: http://psychreviews.org/sexuality-part-2-infantile-sexuality
From birth to puberty, the sexual development of children is already beginning, which was counter to the prevailing thought at the time that puberty was the beginning of sexual development. For Freud, the late 19th century and its repressions lead to all kinds of psychological problems in the early 20th century, especially ignorance of infantile sexuality. "One feature of the popular view of the sexual instinct is that it is absent in childhood and only awakens in the period of life described as puberty. This, however, is not merely a simple error but one that has had grave consequences, for it is mainly to this idea that we owe our present ignorance of the fundamental conditions of sexual life."

The Psychopathology of Everyday Life - Sigmund Freud
Freud continued his self-analysis in The Psychopathology of Everyday Life, and like in most of his works, he explored his personal experiences to understand others. In this instance he chose to examine his forgetfulness, bungled intentions, and slips of the tongue, that so many of us suffer on a daily basis. Despite criticisms from psychologists, his book became popular and was his first vehicle to spread ideas of psychoanalysis to a wider audience.

Treatment of Narcissistic Personality Disorder (Narcissism Part 4 of 4)
Blog: http://psychreviews.org/treatment-of-narcissistic-personality-disorder/
Welcome to the last episode of this narcissistic personality disorder series. In the beginning we looked at Freud’s contributions from On Narcissism, where we see a self-love aimed at an ego-ideal which makes all important people in the narcissist’s life a means to an end. Achieving the ego ideal. As the child grows up the true self is never developed and a mask used for the public is identified with, which is the False Self. As the False self is challenged in a competitive ruthless environment, the narcissist learns from trial and error how to use politics and leverage to get his or her way. So far we have looked at how inhuman the narcissist is. The robotic quality and lack of empathy, but the narcissist is a person. When someone is far away from the narcissist they can feel sorry for their bad childhood, but when you are a victim it is impossible.

The Discovery of the Unconscious - Henri Ellenberger
Blog: http://psychreviews.org/the-discovery-of-the-unconscious/
This is part of a book review series on early psychology that starts with Henri Ellenberger's The Discovery of the Unconscious. This book spans the Paleolithic up to the 20th century. One of the great things about this book is how it highlights some of more unsung heros who advanced the understanding of the unconscious, including the Marquis de Puységur and Pierre Janet. It also covers the main period of psychoanalysis including Sigmund Freud, Alfred Adler, and Carl Jung. There are large sections devoted to biography and the methods of the psychologist or shaman. Methods included are disease-object extraction, soul retrieval, exorcism, animal magnetism, and psychoanalysis. It's available in paperback and hardcover.

Many people look to the East for knowledge of spiritual contemplation and meditation, but the West had its own influencers with similar insights. The Presocratics: Xenophanes
Blog: http://psychreviews.org/the-presocratics-xenophanes/
With different meditation advice on Transference, Communal Happiness, and Wonder, Xenophanes started moving the philosophical conversation to "the good life." His tone is that of someone who likes good behaviour and memorable social exchanges. If I were to get his MBTI type he definitely likes Feeling Extroversion.

The Presocratics: Anaximenes
Blog: http://psychreviews.org/the-presocratics-anaximenes/
After the origin theories of the universe, like those of water from Thales, and Boundless Nature from Anaximander, it took another Milesian to finalize the Milesian School's theories to a final origin of the universe that has a flexibility of boundless nature and the definiteness of water. The philosopher was Anaximenes of Miletus.

The Presocratics: Anaximander
Blog: http://psychreviews.org/the-presocratics-anaximander/
The philosophical influence of the ancient city of Miletus, that supported Thales, continued its inspiration for another philosopher who created new theories and speculations on the origin of the world and what it means for humans to be. The fragmentary remains of his philosophy inspired others to interpret him for centuries, including the likes of Friedrich Nietzsche and Martin Heidegger. The philosopher was Anaximander of Miletus.

The Origin of Envy & Narcissism - René Girard
Blog: http://psychreviews.org/violence-and-the-sacred-rene-girard/
At the beginning of human communities there is a mystery surrounding how our ancestors created human societies and religions. Some theories focus on how human groupings aid survival for individual human families. Others focused on how a larger brain allowed the ability to understand the intentions of others, and hence group coordination. With a larger brain and the ability to reflect, early humans could reflect on their place in human society, mortality, and the meaning of life. Being able to benefit from shared knowledge, made humanity flourish. Yet despite the benefits of increased group living, humans have always had a sense of danger that came with the price of living in groups. One theory in particular, by the social science philosopher René Girard, clarified the reflective part of the mind that allows for humans to learn from others. He called it mimetics, or the ability to imitate.

Totem and Taboo - Sigmund Freud
Blog: http://psychreviews.org/totem-taboo-sigmund-freud-envy-part-2/
After Freud’s initial success, he was ready to start taking his early theories and advance them into other areas outside of Psychoanalysis and to look deeply at the human condition. One of his most famous and influential books was Totem and Taboo which focused on comparing the mental life of primitive societies, their superstitions, their scapegoating to that of modern individuals under his label of neurosis.
With research from then current anthropologists and Darwinism, Freud was able to connect his Oedipus theory to a psychoanalytic original sin, and began fleshing out early understandings of Narcissism which he later delved into. The book itself provides one of the best understandings of envy and human conflict in all literature.

The Noble Eightfold Path: Right Concentration (8/8)
Blog: https://psychreviews.org/the-eightfold-path-right-concentration/
If we got lost on the path, the best way to get back on is to tend to causes and conditions and see what was forgotten. It all leads up to Right Concentration. You gain pleasure up the Jhanic arc, and develop rapture (Jhana 1), bliss (Jhana 2), satisfaction (Jhana 3), and equanimity (Jhana 4). These aren't spaced out states, sleep states, they're not a grind, but instead they are bright aware Flow states that are quite happy and peaceful.

The Noble Eightfold Path: Right Livelihood (5/8)
Blog: https://psychreviews.org/the-eightfold-pa…right-livelihood/
Right Action connects directly with Right Livelihood, and lot of our actions are necessary ones for our survival. In many ways this is one of the most difficult to achieve in the Eightfold Path.

The Noble Eightfold Path: Right Action (4/8)
Blog: https://psychreviews.org/the-eightfold-path-right-action/
What's brewing in the mind can lead to action, but the problem with actions are that you can't take them back, and you can't reverse your actions like changing your mind. Thinking a bad thought, is not as important as the action itself.

The Noble Eightfold Path: Right Resolve (2/8)
Blog: https://psychreviews.org/the-eightfold-path-right-resolve/
After seeing the danger in desire with Right View, one has to look at motivations on how to navigate happiness. There's now an interest to investigate motivations and to rate their value. It can be translated in many different ways, but Thanissaro Bhikkhu calls it Right Resolve.

The Noble Eightfold Path: Right View (1/8)
Blog: https://psychreviews.org/the-eightfold-path-right-view/
The mind is one of the most complicated things in nature and to have the mind understand itself is a difficult undertaking. In Buddhism, the need to see how the mind irritates itself, including when it wrestles with spiritual concepts, can betray levels of stress no different than wrestling with other worldly concepts. In this series we will look at the Buddhist Eightfold Path where those intricacies are examined. Now it's important to look at Buddhism both from the angle of becoming a monastic, and that of the lay person. The following information leads one to rest in the right brain more often and a monastic at most is doing manual labor, reading, memorizing texts, and meditating. The sangha provides an environment to allow old conditioning to starve and new conditioning to take its place and then eventually to let go of as much unhelpful conditioning as possible. They are recusing themselves from being in regular jobs in business and government where much of these practices are compromised with work politics, meeting deadlines, currying favor, being promoted and being rejected.

Meditation: Taking Stock (WNAAD)
Blog: http://psychreviews.org/meditation-taking-stock/
Taking Stock is exactly that. I provide a summary I've what I've covered and how it all works together. I also include some of what I learned in Psychoanalysis and how Narcissism is factoring in big with Woke Psychology contemporaneously. We have to look at the Psychological Objects in our minds with meditation and see the hidden aggression and do something about it before it's too late. We are also broaching June 1st which is World Narcissistic Abuse Awareness Day (
https://wnaad.com/
) and it's important to look at all professions and how this infection of Narcissism can seep into all supposedly good deeds, and even in areas that are supposedly heroically fighting it. Any institution, including psychology and therapy, are not immune. It ends on a note of the pressure we can feel sometimes for growth.
