My Self Reliance

I take a day off the homestead to fish with a couple of friends (Jim Baird and Muskoka Nate), catching over 100 fish and cooking a few on a campfire beside the river. I keep the fish guts and heads to compost with sawdust in my forest garden. Finally, I complete three of the walls on my off grid log cabin and I begin preparing the top logs for roof framing. Exploring the wilderness around the cabin, I see a mother bear with two cubs, two moose feeding in a marsh, a fawn that I almost step on before noticing it and two snapping turtles laying eggs beside a stream. Moose regularly browse through my vegetable garden and orchard in the northern forest so I continue extending a rustic fence around the perimeter to keep them out. As I expand my permaculture food forest, moose, bear, deer and other animals will become more of problem, so I am planting food for them throughout my land to help expand their population while attracting them to areas outside my forest garden.
