In this video, we’re going to talk about autoimmune diseases.

What are autoimmune diseases?
An autoimmune disease is a very complex situation. An autoimmune disease is where the body is developing antibodies, which are things that attack your own tissue. It’s almost like having an allergy to your own tissues.

With complex problems, like autoimmune diseases, I like to take one piece of the problem and figure it out. Then, usually, that will help me understand other areas of the problem until the entire issue is understandable.

Understanding autoimmune diseases:

1. When did the autoimmune disease start?
It almost always occurs after a stress event.

2. How is it treated?
One of the most common treatments used is cortisol or prednisone, which are adrenal hormones. This seems to point to a problem with the adrenal glands.

3. What controls the immune system?
If the adrenal glands are overworking, they may create an overall decrease in antibody production. When you have a dysfunctional adrenal, you may also lose the barriers to the immune system, making your body more susceptible.

Based on these three things, autoimmune conditions may really be adrenal situations—even though they affect different tissues.

What causes autoimmune disease?
I think the accumulation of stress in the body seems to cause the adrenal gland to dysfunction and then causes a loss of control of the immune system.

What you may want to do if you have an autoimmune condition:
Try to lower your body’s stress.
