Fiscal Fridays: Funding the Rogue Bureaucracy
A new audit released this week confirms that the Idaho Dept. of Health and Welfare has gone completely rogue, ignoring the express wishes of the Legislature and acting as if they are completely unaccountable to lawmakers or constituents.

Niklas Kleinworth testifies before the Medicaid committee
On Wednesday, August 9, IFF policy analyst Niklas Kleinworth testified before the Medicaid Managed Care Task Force, which was created by the Legislature to evaluate a managed care plan for Idaho's Medicaid program. Kleinworth explained that managed care has not been shown to decrease costs in states where it has been tried, rather Idaho needs to reduce enrollment, reduce service costs, and reduce service consumption.

Fiscal Fridays: Funding Ineligibles on Medicaid
This year's Medicaid budget reached $4.7 billion (that's billion with a B!), the largest budget in Idaho state history. Yet it turns out that the Dept. of Health and Welfare knowingly included people ineligible for Medicaid in the budget projections.

Fiscal Fridays: The pharmacy spending farce
Medicaid is the largest single budget in the entire state government of Idaho. The Dept. of Health and Welfare says it's because drugs are expensive. Yet basic economics explains that when third parties pay for services, costs always rise. The elephant in the room when discussing Medicaid costs is ENROLLMENT.
