This is not gender critical content. I am responding to a folk etymology claim I see floating around about the origin of the term 'dreadlocks.' Folk etymology is essentually an urban legend about a word's origin which is repeated because it communicates social messages but is not actually rooted in reality. I originally published this last year but it never made it onto some of my platforms, it seems.
