Less Privacy - Heath-care Collapse
It’s not the end of privacy yet in Canada, but the threat remains
Despite early predictions that the internet would spell the end of privacy, it continues to be vital to who we are. Without privacy, we couldn’t sustain relationships or maintain our dignity or sense of self.
Yet our privacy is constantly threatened by ubiquitous surveillance and data collection by tech platforms, retailers, the police and other state agencies, as well as hackers and criminals.
Does privacy law in Canada do enough to protect us from these threats?
To help you decide, it may help to clarify the main features of the legal landscape — when public and private entities can infringe your privacy and what happens when they do.

Trudeau government says privacy rules shouldn’t apply to federal parties
The Liberal government is working to enshrine in law federal political parties’ ability to gather, store and exploit sensitive information about Canadian voters without oversight or rules.
The Liberals’ budget bill, introduced in April, allows parties to “collect, use, disclose, retain and dispose” of Canadians’ personal information as long as they follow their own self-policed privacy policies.
The move comes as the major federal parties are fighting B.C.’s privacy watchdog in court over that office’s ruling that federal parties must adhere to provincial privacy laws. The proposed federal law would supersede provincial privacy rules.
