Slayer - Jesus Saves (Lyrics on Screen Video 🎀🎢🎸πŸ₯)

Favorite part is at 0:42. This one comes out swinging in a slower way haha. I like how they switched up the intro from a typical thrash beat to this more 'doomy' 'heavy' beat. The song then goes into a weird time signature part and then into the main lick of the verse with a nice transition. I feel the lyric scheme is Tom calling out all of Christianity's fallacies and how false he feels they are. You can tell Tom is really passionate about what he believes in and won't stop haha. Enjoy!

🎀 Lyrics Start 🎀

[Instrumental Intro]

[Verse 1]
You go to the church, you kiss the cross
You will be saved at any cost
You have your own reality, Christianity
You spend your life just kissing ass
A trait that's grown as time has passed
You think the world will end today
You praise the Lord, that's all you say

[Chorus 1]
Jesus saves
Listen to you pray
You think you'll see the pearly gates when Death takes you away

[Verse 2]
For all respect, you cannot lust
In an invisible man you place your trust
Indirect dependency
Eternal attempt at amnesty
He will decide who lives and dies
Depopulate, Satanic rise
You will be an accessory
Irreverence and blasphemy

[Lead: King]

[Chorus 2]
Jesus saves
No need to pray, the gates of pearl have turned to gold
It seems you've lost your way

[Lead: Hanneman]

[Outro]
Jesus saves
No words of praise, no promised land to take you to
There is no other way.

"Christians here are criticized for blindly adhering to religious norms. The song isn’t anti-religious, but rather a rebuke of normative religious behavior. They’re chastising Christians who expect to be saved by going through the motions.

It’s important to note that Tom Araya is a practicing Catholic."

"There are many Biblical passages that encourage believers to pray for the end-times and to be watchful of its coming. One such passage is below.

But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.

Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:

Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.

And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch."

Reign in Blood is the third studio album by American thrash metal band Slayer, released on October 7, 1986, by Def Jam Recordings.[1] The album was the band's first collaboration with producer Rick Rubin, whose input helped the band's sound evolve. The release date of the album was delayed because of concerns regarding the lyrical subject matter of the opening track "Angel of Death", which refers to Josef Mengele and describes acts such as human experimentation that he committed at the Auschwitz concentration camp.[2] The band's members stated that they did not condone Nazism and were merely interested in the subject.[3]

Reign in Blood is regarded by critics as one of the most influential and extreme thrash metal albums.[9] In its "Greatest Metal Bands Of All Time" poll, MTV praised Slayer's "downtuned rhythms, infectious guitar licks, graphically violent lyrics and grisly artwork," which they stated "set the standard for dozens of emerging thrash bands," while "Slayer's music was directly responsible for the rise of death metal." MTV described Reign in Blood as essential listening,[37] and the album was ranked number 7 on IGN's "Top 25 Most Influential Metal Albums".[38]

Following the positive reception Slayer's previous release Hell Awaits had received, the band's producer and manager Brian Slagel realized the band were in a position to hit the "big time" with their next album. Slagel negotiated with several record labels, among them Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons' Def Jam Recordings. However, Slagel was reluctant to have the band signed to what was at the time primarily a hip hop label. Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo was made aware of Rubin's interest, and he initiated contact with the producer. However, Slayer's remaining members were apprehensive of leaving Metal Blade Records, with whom they were already under contract.[6]
