This was radio icon Michael Savage's 1961 Jaguar XK150 3.8-litre Drophead Coupe. A mere 79 XK-150 convertibles were produced in this final year of production, and even fewer utilized the more powerful 3.8-litre engine adding 15% more horsepower over the standard 3.4-litre engine.

It includes the Jaguar Heritage Certificate, owner's manual and maintenance records during Doctor Savages ownership, and of course, the cache of being owned by arguably one of America's most controversial, notable, and famous personalities.

This handsome Drophead Coupe had a "complete Concours restoration with everything on the car done to Jaguar standards both mechanically and cosmetically," according to Blackhawk Collection when previously offered for sale at their exhibit at the Pebble Beach Concours in 2007. It is Jaguar Heritage Certified, numbers matching, and was beautifully and properly refinished in its original black over red.

The exterior finish is smooth as glass with brilliant depth and shine. The glass, rubber, chrome, stainless and cloth hood look to have been re-commissioned at the time of the restoration and show well with just mild aging as should be expected. This pretty old Jaguar has a lovely overall appearance and feeling to it.

The factory, numbers-matching 3.8-litre, 3,781cc DOHC inline 6-cylinder motor still sits below its original number-matching head. It starts effortlessly even after weeks of sitting, running smoothly, and burning clean with a lovely, eager growling note. During my extensive 3 hour photoshoot and run-time, it consistently ran cool. On the road, it reacts quickly to driver demands.

The interior is beautiful and comfortable. The leather, panels, dash, gauges, chrome, headliner, and rugs are in very nice condition and pleasing for even long drives. The convergence of high-quality materials wreak of that intoxicating classic British scent that can only be experienced in a vintage Jaguar. The hood folds down easily, and there is a matching boot cover for top-down cruising. This lovely XK150 is a wonderfully comfortable car to ride in, pleasing to its lucky passengers' senses.

The 4-speed Moss gearbox shifts easily and accurately through the gears, the suspension is excellent with a recent set of adjustable Spax shocks all-around, polyurethane bushings including upper and lower control arm bushings and sway bar mounts. It has excellent brakes, just serviced including a new master cylinder, reservoir, rotors, and hoses. The car rides nicely on 16" chrome wire wheels wrapped in 6.50/R16 Coker Classic radial whitewalls. In addition, the SU carburetors were just rebuilt and the starter replaced.
