Constitutional Originalism, The Protection of Rights and Recent Landmark SCOTUS Decisions
The Supreme Court made a series of landmark decisions recently, two of them dominating the national news cycle: The overturning of Roe v. Wade and the striking down of an archaic, yet oft-abused, New York law demanding people apply with a special need to carry a concealed firearm within its borders (which in recent decades has been arguably unjustly denied too many times).
While the issues decided upon triggered emotional reactions from people (and quite a few government officials) and the Department of Justice went out of its way to denounce the outcomes, the U.S. Constitution is clear about the importance of upholding both the 2nd and 10th Amendments within the Bill of Rights. The London Center for Policy Research discusses the cases, reasons the decisions were proper and whether we are once again seeing an era of respect for Constitutional Originalism.
