I'm playing my six string guitar through three pedals with nine-volt batteries into & out of a 2.5-watt, two-way boombox (1981 Panasonic RX1550) :—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:— This was my FIRST time busking. I played live guitar in Detroit's Eastern Market in the EXACT SAME SPOT where I LAST saw Detroit's GREATEST street guitarist, Mr. Bobby Raw, nearly a year ago. Mr. Raw passed away the day or day after I saw him last. Rest in Peace, Mr. Raw! :—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—

👩🏾 NINA SIMONE 🎶🎹 WAS 💩 ARROGANT 😤 WHEN 🤵🏾♂️ LEE CANADY MET 🤦🏾♀️ HER THE FIRST TIME IN DETROIT 🚗🎵🎼
When Lee FINALLY got to meet Nina Simone, she picked up the nearest magazine and tuned out Lee and all of his entourage that accompanied Lee from his LEGENDARY Detroit record store. In this experience of being slighted, Lee was not turned away for capitalizing on a chance encounter with the FRESH-faced but ROTTEN-prone Nina Simone, for this meeting was a press party pre-arranged and held exclusively in her honor at the private home of a local well-to-do music businessman in Detroit. Nina sat in a chair with her legs crossed and pulled up and read her magazine that clearly served more as concealment rather than as an information source. Lee admits he fell in with her in time, which one can assume is the balance of her Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde sides evening her impression out in Lee's heart and mind.
——————————
I am making a documentary/anthology about Lee Canady, who is a Motown music mogul who marched with Martin Luther King Jr. in June of 1963 (and left early out of DISGUST with MLK's crookedness). This man was a husband and father PRIOR to finishing the ninth grade in rural segregated Arkansas (Lee Canady is a black man and lived in segregated, racist Arkansas in the 1930's and 1940's and 1950's). Lee Canady had the GREATEST RECORD STORE in the WORLD. It stood between 1959 and 1984 (twenty-five GOLDEN years in downtown Detroit). Lee's is a rags-to-riches-to-rags story, and though Lee is presently (in May of 2023) 88 years YOUNG, I yet hope Lee's fortunes swing higher up now than they EVER did before in his life. Lee certainly deserves it, and you deserve to TREAT YOURSELF by watching the Legendary Lee Canady TODAY!

Lee Canady: Clifford Brown & James Moody & Lester Young & John Coltrane & Duke Ellington & Max Roach
Lester Young was known as "The President!" — Here is the FUNNIEST reminder of that FACT! :—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:— When the time comes to seek a way to RELAX, turn on the Legendary Lee Canady and watch and listen and laugh at Lee's reminiscing. :—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:— In this edition of "Listen In With Lee" (I realized later that the Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane track was not formally noted in the title card to this video [I suppose I was descriptive but not exhaustive in my efforts in making the start and end title card copy]), Lee Canady was like coffee creamer regarding his success in guessing Jazz greats played nearly at random for the man (Lee was "half and half"). Ne'ertheless, Lee lit up the room *I* was in with his searching for the real name that the nickname, "The President," connected with (Lester Young was nicknamed by "Lady Day" [Billie Holiday] as "The President," and in this video, Lee tells us why). :—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:—:— You might rethink these songs after falling for them in the way that Lee knows them, because Lee was contemporaneous with many of the timeless artists featured in this all-too-short sitdown (and listen) with the Legendary Lee Canady.
I will pray for America. Please pray for me. God Bless you.
——————————
Vivify yourself with this charming exchange between an octogenarian and a tricenarian over classic jazz masters. You will laugh uncontrollably and gleam with joy on account of this all-too-rare pure and decent video.
——————————
There is no money for Lee or for me in a video like this, because the copyright holders of the music take the lot of the ad revenue on account of their music playing during this video. It is too bad, though, because of two reasons (two reasons of many I could list):
1: The now-dead featured musicians would likely appreciate this effort to get their name and worthiness of fame out to new minds and ears and eyes, and this video (and others like it) is blocked in Russia (I would assume this is due to the present war Russia is having with Ukraine [and I would assume that the dead Jazz greats that are being now censored decades after their death because of some war that is FAR removed from their time and is not associated with their art whatsoever are rolling in their graves that their music is not free to reverberate across the earth on its own terms])
2: It took me north of twenty hours JUST to assemble the visuals for the green screen (it took even longer to edit this video). It took even, even longer to put together this video's audio and video. It took even, even, even longer to shoot this video. It took even, even, even, even longer to write the script and prepare otherwise (download music; talk LOTS with the Great Mr. Canady; research all sorts of topics related to and not related to the obvious areas of conversation I could explore with Lee; etc.)
Should you see these videos I make and find yourself at once both rich and generous, direct your love towards me, and please multiply your original intended gift to stand in the place of all those that had the same feeling and ability but stopped short of giving (and especially for the many more that would give even more than you would dare to imagine giving but could not afford half of what you are giving). Where there is smoke there is fire, but where great art is made, hardly is there ever due recompense in due time. Please make the difference, be the change, and spare some change for this poor bloke that makes the content you make use of once in a while or more often than that. Thank you.

Legendary Lee Canady: Nancy Wilson sang "Save Your Love For Me" to Lee at Baker's Keyboard Lounge
The singular vision of a genius beats a stew of midwits' ideas, and Lee saw something in Nancy Wilson (even though Lee hardly took on to singers). Lee broke Nancy Wilson on the radio as a result, and Nancy FOREVER returned the favor ALWAYS showering UNENDING LOVE on Lee for the rest of her life.

Lee Canady met Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams, Ron Carter, Wayne Shorter @ The Minor Key
You need to know a man, named Lee Canady. The Minor Key was the FIRST cafe in the state of Michigan, and Miles Davis was asked to help open the joint, so he came to the Detroit cafe and played for ten days. Lee Canady was PERSONALLY invited to attend the opening (and to attend any concert or event there FOR FREE), because Lee ran the GREATEST record store in Michigan, Monroe Music (later renamed to Lee's Monroe Music). In this video, Lee recounts his only conversation (that Lee presently remembers) with Miles Davis at The Minor Key in Detroit when it first opened. Lee tells other GREAT tales in this video. It is a joy to make these installments of the Legendary Lee Canady, and I hope it is even happier (and increasingly so) of an occasion for you folks out in the world to see this presentation. I hope COUNTLESS more Legendary Lee Canady videos will follow this one. Lee and I are on a ROLL! Lee has the best stories and takes on things, and I am blessed to get to be in the room and even record some of them when Lee is firing at all cylinders, which is seemingly daily and constant (praise God).

Lee Canady talks Swan Catalog; Gino Washington; WCHB; Sugar Schwartz; Marvelous Marv; & Harvard Bar
It would not be the United States of America if our country did not have a few genius mavericks that broke the mold that built them and used the pieces to reshape our culture PERMANENTLY with effortless tirelessness. Lee Canady has worked for his keep (and then some). Lee built American music in his own BIG way from his historic Detroit record store. Much there is to say about Lee, and for about an hour, Lee discusses himself as he lived through and impacted thoroughly the history and moods of the Great American Songbook (from Jazz to Motown to Soul to Rock and Funk and beyond). Break away from dastardly deeds screened for your displeasure on every backlit surface around, and relax into some real and fun and momentous moments from a legendary life of one Mr. Lee Canady.

Legendary Lee Canady: Lee tries Subway "The Champ" submarine sandwich from Steph Curry ad 🤌🏾🤌🏻🌯👨🏾🍳🏀
"Indubitably Edible Lee" with Lee Canady on Thursday, March 30th, 2023 in Lee's museum-like Detroit apartment. Lee Canady tries the Subway submarine sandwich from a TV commercial with Steph Curry. The Subway sub is called "The Champ." Lee and Ryan chomp on champs and chat Detroit music history in the area of the founding of Motown and Lee's part in that most invaluable American artistic/creative explosion in the middle of the twentieth century Anno Domini. Truly this is yet another "wouldn't be without Lee" examples.
ATTN Subway: please give Lee Canady free Subway for LIFE! He is a good man and deserves so much more than even that amazing gesture of good will toward a living legend and testament to genius springing from its otherwise undoing, as Lee has survived and thrived through harder times into happier times and then onto harder times again, always persevering with VALIANCE. Lee Canady is a man to admire. Lee Canady is more than worth your while.
——————————
I like making and posting those sorts of videos once in a while to break away entirely from the regular interview format and catch Lee in a super informal scenario that is also rife with fellowship (it feels realer and evokes different sorts of stories [hopefully])

MOTOWN cofounder, Lee Canady, & Acme Audio Motown D.I. Wolfbox 3 Ed Wolfrum — Frank Sinatra "My Way"
When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one man to invent the direct input box which has connected bassists and guitarists and keyboardists and vocalists (among other musicians) with mixers for recording and/or performing, and to assume the powers of the earth element, molybdenum, the warm and flat response to which the Performance of Musicians and of Musicians' friends entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of Ed Wolfrum requires that they should declare the inventor which impels them to the ease of use in the owning of a direct box.

Legendary Lee Canady "Old Folks" by Charlie Parker - Takes 1, 3, 8, & 9; ca. 1950 Listen In With Lee
Lee began his Detroit record store (Lee's Monroe Music… ca. 1959-1984 [Lee renamed it "Lee's" after taking over the store some years in {Lee started as its manager}]) four years after Charlie Parker (1920-1955) died. "Old Folks" by Charlie Parker was one of the songs that first turned Lee on to the genre of Jazz. Lee Canady would LOVE to record his own version of the song, "Old Folks," complete with his own personalized lyrics. I hope to get an arrangement and record him singing this timeless track as soon as possible. This video is my near, dear pal, Lee, listening to a song he asked me to print the lyrics from for him, because (just like Frank Sinatra's "My Way") Lee told me he had a strong urge to sing this song his own way just like Lee's "My Way" "Lee's way" (as I like to say). I hope you enjoy this video. Since Lee and I are commentating Charlie Parker (etc. in his way of life) over this wonderful tune by Charlie Parker, really the copyright claim ought to be lifted for Fair Use reasons, but hey, what could someone like me do up against the likes of whoever is claiming this video now as their own over this inclusion of a song not recorded by them?
——————————
"Old Folks" is a track by Charlie Parker on the album, "Big Band"
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
Big Band
Studio album by Charlie Parker
Released: 1954
Recorded: July 5, 1950 at Reeves Sound Studios, New York City, January 22, and March 25, 1952 at First Avenue & East 44th Street, New York City[1]
Genre Jazz
Label Clef MG C-609[2]
Producer Norman Granz
Big Band is a 1954 album by Charlie Parker of sides recorded in 1950 and 1952.[3] In 1999 Big Band was reissued with bonus material and outtakes.[3]
Stacia Proefrock reviewed the reissue of the album for Allmusic and wrote that these "Though Joe Lipman's arrangements are stellar, the musicians assembled for the sessions are an odd mix of Popular Music big-band players and improvisers. The album en todo also suffers from the Popular Music style of the songs themselves: solos are kept short, and songs limited to a three-minute length that was both radio-friendly and compatible with the 78-rpm format. But when Parker does solo, it is just as magical as any of his earlier recordings. The songs also have a sweet smoothness to them that makes them eminently enjoyable although jazz variety is lacking. This record is not perfect, but it still musters up moments of brilliance".[3]

Legendary Lee Canady: Berry Gordy vs. John Ford — Ramsey Lewis pioneered Christmas albums
Would not you know it? Lee knew Ramsey Lewis! The man, Ramsey, visited Lee's Detroit record store (ca. 1959-1984) many times.
This is true: Ramsey Lewis was a pioneer of the Christmas album Lee said!
You can see just this and more on other things in this Legendary Lee Canady latest installment. Lee is such a cool cat, the walls behind him moved to a cool blue hue.

WIDOWED CANYONS:
Single buttes are like widowed mountains
pairs of buttes near one another are like widowed canyons
Hahaha
So seen singly, they are widowed mountains
And when found doubly, they are widowed canyons
If you see three, run, because they gain speed in groups of more than two, and you might find yourself overrun with buttes—a problem I am all too familiar with. Just stay calm. Address them one at a time. You may find them arguing amongst each other over you. This is your chance. Make a run for the hills, which are less-desolate buttes—ones with life yet left in them. That is where you belong—among the quick and witted.

"MONUMENT VALLEY," TAKEN FROM WIKIPEDIA ON SAT., MARCH 11TH, 2023:
Monument Valley (Navajo: Tsé Biiʼ Ndzisgaii, pronounced [tsʰépìːʔ ǹtsɪ̀skɑ̀ìː], meaning valley of the rocks) is a region of the Colorado Plateau characterized by a cluster of sandstone buttes, the largest reaching 1,000 ft (300 m) above the valley floor.[1] It is located on the Utah-Arizona state line, near the Four Corners area. The valley is a sacred area that lies within the territory of the Navajo Nation Reservation, the Native American people of the area.[2]
Monument Valley has been featured in many forms of media since the 1930s. Director John Ford used the location for a number of his Westerns; critic Keith Phipps wrote that "its five square miles [13 square kilometers] have defined what decades of moviegoers think of when they imagine the American West."[3]

Break on through with this electrifying new interview with the superb sonic shepherd, Bob Ebeling (cofounder of Jext Telez and a Grammy-nominated sound engineer with a solo career in music [his solo record out now is feels like island sirens sequestered in the woods, where the nature of their notes pulls you toward them for a different purpose than before]), who has made it his life's career to guide noise into nirvana.

Legendary Lee Canady: Lee discovered LeBaron Taylor (he wrote "Agent Double-O-Soul" for Edwin Starr)
Lee Canady discovered LeBaron Taylor, who discovered Edwin Starr, who recorded "Agent Double-O-Soul" (written by Taylor).
——————————
"Gentle but bold" are traits of Agent Double-O-Soul.
——————————
Lee got LeBaron Taylor started in the early 1960's. HISTORY followed.
——————————
Look at the lyrics of the song LeBaron wrote, & it somewhat references Lee's involvement.
——————————
Lee listened to what the people were saying and hired LeBaron.
——————————
Find time to let Lee shine telling of his lived music history in Detroit.

——————————
Lee brought the world the LEGEND, LeBaron Taylor.
——————————
There was a time before "Agent Double-O-Soul," & then Lee spotlighted the man that would write that tune, & the rest is history!

This video ends with the National Anthem connected to Woodstock & my pal that managed bands there.
——————————

Lyrics for "Agent Double-O-Soul"
[Intro]
(Double-O Soul)
[Verse 1]
I dig rock and roll music
I can do the twine and the jerk
I wear strictly continental suits
And high collared shirts
I've got a reputation of bein'
Gentle but bold
And that's why they call me
[Chorus]
Agent Double-O Soul, baby
Agent Double-O Soul
They call me Double-O Soul, baby
I'm agent Double-O Soul
[Verse 2]
I don't carry no pistol
I don't wear a false mustache
And you'll never see me carrying
Around a little black bag
My real name's no secret
But from me it will never be told
I'm just known as
[Chorus]
Agent Double-O Soul, baby
Agent Double-O Soul
They call me Double-O Soul, baby
I'm agent Double-O Soul
[Bridge]
There once was a fella
Who was down on therock and roll
He couldn't get himself together
He didn't have no kind of soul
The office put me on his case
And I tracked him down right away
Now he's a DJ on a radio show
A station that everybody knows
[Chorus]
Call me Double-O Soul
Call me Double-O Soul
[Instrumental section]
(Double-O Soul)
(Double-O Soul)
(Double-O Soul)
(Double-O Soul)
[Outro]
At my job I worked real hard
I'm on the go
Rain, sleet or snow
I'm agent Double-O Soul, baby
I'm agent Double-O Soul
They call me Double-O Soul, baby

Legendary Lee Canady: Nancy Wilson & LeBaron Taylor WCHB AM 1340 & Gordon Kemp & The Four Tops
When you think of Nancy Wilson and LeBaron Taylor, think of Lee Canady, because he LAUNCHED both of their careers.
——————————
Far be it from you to not see Lee Canady explain why he is the reason Nancy Wilson and LeBaron Taylor are part of culture.
——————————
"The Baby" is what LeBaron Taylor nicknamed Nancy Wilson, and Lee Canady discovered and catapulted both of their careers skyward FAST!
——————————
What elation you get when you hear the best music is what Lee enabled those same music makers to produce when he discovered them.
——————————
This is the day to learn about the DISCOVERER of legends.
——————————
See Lee this morn/afternoon/evening, & you'll be pleased.
——————————
I call him a cool cat, and he called the writer of "Double-O-Soul" a sure-bet before anyone.

Legendary Lee Canady: Freddie Hubbard - Breaking Point! - 1964 - Lee Morgan & Berry Gordy lookalike
Jazz fusion began with Lee's pal, Freddie Hubbard, who made Lee stay up to discuss it
——————————
"Breaking Point!" began the Jazz Fusion genre, and Lee's pal wrote it & was itching to talk about it with Lee.
——————————
There never would be Jazz Fusion without Freddie Hubbard, who insisted Lee stay up to discuss its origin Freddie made.
——————————
If you love Jazz Fusion, you have GOT to see & hear Lee talk about talking about its origin with its originator.
——————————
The market for Jazz fusion stretches from Detroit to Tokyo to Moscow to Rio to Honolulu thanks to Freddie Hubbard (& perhaps Lee Canady too).
——————————
There was a time before Jazz Fusion. Then Freddie Hubbard arrived. Lee talked with Freddie about Freddie's innovations.
——————————
The best music SOUGHT Lee out HEARTILY (Jazz Fusion origin story in Detroit with Freddie Hubbard).
——————————
Lee was mistaken for Lee Morgan (they had similar hair) and Berry Gordy (similar looks and dress).
——————————
Would you be able to say that in 1964, Freddie Hubbard pulled you aside & made you stay up all night & listen to him talk Jazz?
——————————
There was a furnace of fusion—Jazz fusion—ablaze in inventive Jazz trumpet great, Freddie Hubbard, & Lee was Freddie's choice audience in Detroit.
——————————
Do you have a friend like Freddie Hubbard? Freddie invented Jazz fusion & INSISTED Lee listen to him talk about its origination in 1964 in Detroit.
——————————
In the year 1964, Jazz fusion began with "Breaking Point!" Its creator, Freddie Hubbard, visited Lee in Detroit & talked about it.
——————————
When Freddie Hubbard saw Lee Canady, Freddie just HAD to show Lee his enthusiastic charity & philadelphia he felt toward Lee.

Legendary Lee Canady: mink coat showboat — Marvin Gaye Cobo date — svelte white jumper car accident
I wanted to title this "The Greatest Story Ever Told," but "Mink Coat Showboat" will do, since it is more to the specifics of the "meat" of the story…
——————————
——————————
Mink coats look nice on a lady, but there is one further improvement to be enjoyed from there.
——————————
——————————
What a reveal is is defined by this video.
——————————
——————————
Lee will outlive us all, & Lee had AMAZING romance in his life (& also bad dates).
——————————
——————————
The way to happiness is sometimes no way at all; happiness comes to you sometimes…
——————————
——————————
Lee was not frightened by THIS surprise (Lee has lived a very enviable life, my friends [very enviable indeed]).
——————————
——————————
Women have a power all their own, and Lee was KNOCKED OUT by Mink Coat Lady's power.
——————————
——————————
When you have worked for ten to twelve hours, you go home and want to rest, but when you instead get knockers at the door, you have to put off resting to relax differently.
——————————
——————————
Mink coats are for high-class people, and the breath-taking woman adorned so had a surprise for Lee beyond her visit.
——————————
——————————
Lee was a POWERFUL man to attract such a WONDERFUL woman.
——————————
——————————
A gift is best when it is entirely spontaneous
——————————
——————————
Lee had riches (and debts) in the way of women in his life.
——————————
——————————
If you ever find your single self met by a gorgeous woman with only you in mind, marry her!
——————————
——————————
Lee knew goodness and beauty in one very special woman in his younger days (what would YOU have done if you were in his shoes?).
——————————
——————————
Lee broke my heart by not doing what I would have done if I had the same opportunity as him.
——————————
——————————
Lee was doted upon MIGHTILY by a woman with a heart of GOLD (Lee had it MADE with this lady!).
——————————
——————————
Lee had a woman on his case like an off-duty doc on an ill-presenting friend.
——————————
——————————
Lee won the election every time with the females he fancied (long live the President!).
——————————
——————————
Lee was not lonely; women came after him in EARNEST (Lee was blessed for a long, long time in the relations realm)!
——————————
——————————
Bliss fell upon Lee like a snowflake atop Everest; there was no better version of his joy, and I wish Lee had kept that joy.
——————————
——————————
Lee was loved by the top shelf racks of his day.
——————————
——————————
The mink coat was incredibly soft, but the softness only STARTED there!
