Rishi Sunak’s Ascension Island deportation idea already shut down.

First there was Rwanda for deportations that now verges on failing, so Plan B ifor Sunak is Ascension Island...again.
Right, so Rishi Sunak and his deportation of asylum seekers as part of his repetitive stop the boats policy is going around in circles it seems as Rwanda remains beset with problems, so the idea of using Ascension Island to send asylum seekers to has been raised once more. This was first mooted as a possible destination by Priti Patel when she was still the nasty piece of work in charge at the Home Office back in 2020. It was panned and ridiculed then for good reason, yet the Tories are so bankrupt it seems and so out of ideas regarding solutions to the migrant crisis for some bizarre reason it is back on the table. I can only imagine it’s because the Tories don’t think it’s travel from-able by small boat and they’re probably right about that. Ascension Island lies in the middle of the South Atlantic grouped in and governed with the other British Oversea territories of St Helena and Tristan de Cuhna. It’s 1000 miles from the African Coast of Liberia, 1400 miles from Brazil and over 4000 miles away from us, so yes, a long way away from everywhere including here, but the further from here it is, the more expensive it is to send people there. It is also only 34 square miles in size, with a population of 800 people, so sending potentially thousands of asylum seekers there would quickly outnumber the locals. You’ve also got to build a detention centre there and we know how well the Tories have done with those here, no hotels out there to deal with backlogs when its full though. Acension Island is currently the Tories plan B in case Rwanda fails according to Braverman minion Sarah Dines, the MP for Derbyshire Dales and someone so daft she reckoned the Bibby Stockholm prison barge would be filled to capacity by the weekend. There’s no in case Rwanda fails, it will fail it is in blatant contradiction of human rights and refugee laws, the Illegal Migration Bill being the first piece of legislation passed in the Commons since 1951 that didn’t necessarily comply with the Human Rights Act, so expect the arbiters of that international law to rule the Illegal Migration Bill as illegal in and of itself. Remember Braverman is supposed to be a lawyer, she damn well knows this. It’s all for show, it’s all to win hard right and racist votes. So Ascension Island is a British Overseas Territory, it’s ours right, so by sending people there, we’re not breaking the human rights act then? We’ll still be responsible for them? Ask a Tory how much it’ll cost to send people there. Dines was indeed asked about that herself, well they just deflect back to Rwanda being the focus.
