Were These NES Sequels Better Or Worse than the Original

The Nintendo Entertainment System had so many amazing games, and not only that but it had some amazing sequels too. Some of the sequels were better than the originals, and some didn't quite measure up. Let's take a look at some of my favorite, and least favorite, sequels available on the NES.

Mega Man 2
This should make Jay over at Square Peg's very happy, Mega Man 2 is a tremendous sequel and vastly Superior to the original and almost every way. The weapons are better, the bosses are better, the level design is better, and the music is better too. In practically every way Mega Man 2 surpasses the original, not that the original was bad, but the sequel is just really much better.

TMNT 2: the arcade game
The original Turtles video game was not terrible, but it just wasn't what we were expecting. There was an amazing version of a turtles game in the arcade, and that's really what we wanted at home on the NES. The original game was not, the sequel, however, was literally subtitled the arcade game. It played great, it was fun, it was the game we wanted.

Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest
I don't hate Castlevania 2 like I know a lot of other people do, it was actually one of the first games that I ever beat. But compared to the original, yeah it had more content but it just wasn't as compelling. It was a decent enough game, and if the original hadn't existed it'd be really well thought of I think. It just did not measure up to how great the original was though.

RC Pro-Am 2
I've mentioned before that I have been involved in RC cars and trucks almost as long as I've been playing video games, and when RC Pro-Am 2 came out I really wanted it. I didn't get it until I was an adult, however. It has everything that I love about the original game and more. It has better graphics, better sound, and better play control, and overall is a better game.

DuckTales 2
Stay with me here, it's not a bad game, it's just not as good as the original one was. The original DuckTales had some of the best platforming the NES had ever seen, and whatever see. DuckTales 2 is famous, not because it's a great game, not because it's a great sequel, but because it's crazy expensive. Having played it, I don't think it's worth the money that people are paying for it, and overall this is a pass for me.

The Legend of Zelda 2: The Adventures of Link
One of my least favorite entries in the series, I really did not care for the change of perspective from the first to the second game. I also did not care for the fact that the second game leans much more heavily toward the world of RPGs. I tried to like it, I've tried to play it, I've just never really been a fan of The Legend of Zelda 2.

Super Mario Bros 2
I admit it, this is a reskin of Doki-Doki panic, but it also has some quality of life changes on it as well. And Doki Doki Panic, you cannot run, and you have to beat the game with all four characters to actually beat the game. Super Mario Bros 2 has amazing music, and great characters, it is so much fun and I absolutely love it. And yes, I also have Doki Doki panic.

What do you think of this list? Do you agree or disagree? When are some of your favorite and least favorite sequels? Let me know in the comments.
