#53 William M. Briggs on fixing broken science
About William M. Briggs:
====
I am a wholly independent vagabond writer, statistician, scientist and consultant. Previously a Professor at the Cornell Medical School, a Statistician at DoubleClick in its infancy, a Meteorologist with the National Weather Service, and a sort of Cryptologist with the US Air Force (the only title I ever cared for was Staff Sergeant Briggs).
My PhD is in Mathematical Statistics, though I am now a Data Philosopher (I made that up), Epistemologist, Probability Puzzler, Unmasker of Over-Certainty, and (self-awarded) Bioethicist. My MS is in Atmospheric Physics, and Bachelors is in Meteorology & Math.

#50 Kevin Kirchman: Challenging greenhouse gas theory
Kevin Kirchman is editor of the Climate Science Journal, which he founded in 2017. He developed a broad-based new epistemological view (theory of knowledge), including new theories of deduction (the first since Aristotle), validation (a much-improved scientific method), induction (how we form ideas, or the basis of a science of innovation), lexicology (meaning), and symbolic representation (grammar).
These theories were confirmed as an emerging science of epistemology by demonstration as the basis commercial artificial intelligence software for natural language reasoning, sold to businesses such as P&G, Litton Aerospace, and Baxter Healthcare, in a company he founded that was subject to an acquisition offer by a G200 firm. This technology was the first in the world to deliver direct answers to live questions from unstructured, random text from the internet.
Mr. Kirchman has been an entrepreneur for 30+ years, is a non-fiction author and speaker, with degrees in mechanical and aerospace engineering (Cornell) and computer science, and was a graduate student at the London School of Economics in philosophy of science, before withdrawing to found his software firm. He has written many articles at the request of leading magazines and newspapers, and two books, and is preparing his third, “If Earth Warms 1°, Let It Cool 30 Minutes”.
Regarding his climate science papers,
“...seems to be path-breaking research in the domain. The paper reads nice and the science involved is analogous and clear. This paper is a hallmark and would benefit the advances in science, government planning as well as policy makers for the next course of action. I congratulate you for this great work and thank for giving me an opportunity to read it and enlighten myself.”
PhD, Atmospheric Science and Meteorology, IISc M.Sc., Geophysics, ISC, BSc., (Hons) Physics, Delhi U
“You have found a promising approach to demonstrate successfully that the long-suspected culprits of global warming, e.g., CO2, CH4, are actually not!"

#41 - John Droz: “Science is being very systematically and aggressively attacked”
John received undergraduate degrees in Physics and Mathematics from Boston College, and a graduate degree in Physics from Syracuse University. He subsequently worked for GE (Aerospace Electronics: Utica, NY), Mohawk Data Sciences (Herkimer, NY), and Monolithic Memories (Cupertino, CA).
After retiring at 34 (due to his successful investment program) he was actively involved in various community activities. In 1984 John and his wife Elaine bought a rental property in Emerald Isle, NC (sold in 2015). In 2009 they sold their primary residence in NY and moved to Morehead City, NC. Throughout this period they have kept a Summer Adirondack (NY) cottage.
As a resident of the Adirondacks, he has been a participating member of several environmental organizations (e.g., the Adirondack Council, Association for Protection of the Adirondacks, Residents’ Committee to Protect the Adirondacks, Sierra Club, NYS Federation of Lakes).
This led to a 40+ year commitment as a Science advocate. During the initial years John was a leading individual on three NY state-wide issues: electrical energy options, water extraction, and water quality. He received no funding for any of this activity. In subsequent years, his areas of interest and expertise expanded to include climate change, COVID-19, and election integrity.
John’s main focus is about implementing genuine science as the basis of our technical policies. Unbeknown to most, real Science is under an incessant assault by self-serving lobbyists (e.g., renewable energy lobbyists). His belief is that this undermining of Science (replacing it with political science) will have catastrophic effects on the success and security of our society.

Russell Cook is an unpaid advisor to Heartland regarding the origins of false 'industry corruption' accusations leveled at global warming "skeptics." Among those occasional contributions is "Merchants of Smear," which was published as a Heartland Policy Brief in 2014. In 2013, Heartland created the bare-bones online structure for his GelbspanFiles.com blog, which has a regular outlet for Cook to provide myriad detail on the way corporate collusion accusations against skeptic scientists and places like Heartland fall apart, and who the people are behind these false accusations.
Cook is the author of numerous articles at American Thinker, RedState, Breitbart, and WattsUpWithThat.

#36 - Ronan Connolly: “rural U.S., we're finding it was about as warm in ‘30s, ‘40s as present”
I am an independent scientist, environmentalist and writer.
My primary university degree was in Chemistry, and my PhD in computational chemistry/polymer physics. However, in 2004, I shifted to environmentalism, and began working with my father, Dr. Michael Connolly, on developing sustainable methods of fish-farming, aquaponics and waste-water treatment. We also carried out research into developing low-cost heat exchanger systems and new energy efficient building materials and techniques.
In 2009, we began systematically investigating the challenging subject of climate change in detail. After five years of this research, we realised that we had gained a lot of important insights which would be of interest to the scientific community. We set up a website, OpenPeerReviewJournal.com, where we published all our results and findings as a series of eight scientific papers.
We also realised that our findings could be of interest to the general public, and so we also set up a separate website, Globalwarmingsolved.com, in which we summarised our findings in a less technical format. My mother, Dr. Imelda Connolly, also worked with us on it.
Since then, we have met and/or discussed our findings with hundreds of scientists around the world. We have sought and received useful feedback on our research, and this has led to several useful scientific collaborations. We have written up and published the results of several of these collaborations in peer-reviewed journals (see the “Peer-reviewed publications” section for more details).
In 2018, I began working full-time on my climate change and environmental research through a new international research group, the Center for Environmental Research and Earth Sciences (CERES-Science.com).
Currently, I am writing a book on “Bridging the political divide on climate change” (see the “Ongoing projects” section for more details). I am also continuing my scientific research through a number of collaborative projects with other researchers. We are writing and publishing our findings in peer-reviewed journals as time permits.

Dr. Patrick Moore has been a leader in the international environmental field for over 30 years. He is a founding member of Greenpeace and served for nine years as President of Greenpeace Canada and seven years as a Director of Greenpeace International. As the leader of many campaigns Dr. Moore was a driving force shaping policy and direction while Greenpeace became the world's largest environmental activist organization.
In recent years, Dr. Moore has been focused on the promotion of sustainability and consensus building among competing concerns. He was a member of British Columbia government-appointed Round Table on the Environment and Economy from 1990 - 1994. In 1990, Dr. Moore founded and chaired the BC Carbon Project, a group that worked to develop a common understanding of climate change
Dr. Moore served for four years as Vice President, Environment for Waterfurnace International, the largest manufacturer of geothermal heat pumps for residential heating and cooling with renewable earth energy.
As Chair of the Sustainable Forestry Committee of the Forest Alliance of BC, he leads the process of developing the "Principles of Sustainable Forestry" which have been adopted by a majority of the industry.
In 1991 Dr. Moore founded Greenspirit, a consultancy focusing on environmental policy and communications in natural resources, biodiversity, energy and climate change
In 2000, Dr. Moore published Green Spirit - Trees are the Answer, a photo-book that provides a new insight into how forests work and how they can play a powerful role in solving many of our current environmental problems.

#31 - Michael Kelly: An engineer shows us what net zero would really mean
Michael Kelly was Prince Philip Professor of Technology at the University of Cambridge during 2002-16 and Emeritus since 2016. His previous career in academia and industry concerned the physics of high-performance semiconductor devices and the manufacturability of nanoscale artefacts. His interest in climate science and mitigation was piqued by the UK Climate Change Act of 2008, where, as part-time Chief Scientific Advisor to the Department for Communities and Local Government for Her Majesty’s Government, he assumed a leading role in defining the need for a national retrofit programme for the UK’s building stock to help achieve a reduction in the 45% of the UK’s CO2 emissions that came from heating air and water in buildings. During 2010-2016 he led the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate engineers with a course ‘Present and Future Energy Systems, the study of how the UK get’s its energy now and how it might in 2050. It was here that he first appreciated the scale of the retrofit programme, and in later extensions, the cost in terms of finance, materials and human resources, of achieving a Net-Zero Economy for the UK by 2050.
